Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Hey they still greenlit Hazelight's new game. But they've got a GOTY title under their belt and tbh I'm guessing the budget for Split Fiction is probably way less than what DS4 would needIt's not a GaaS Hero Shooter, annual Sports title, or Mobile game that will generate revenue streams through long term engagement and recurring transactions.
They also just funded and released an amazing Dead Space Remake, ready to revive and eventually continue this incredible series, and no one cared.Hey they still greenlit Hazelight's new game. The remake was great - sales were really bad, so bad that the remake of the second part was simply cancelled. They also just funded and released an amazing Dead Space Remake, ready to revive and eventually continue this incredible series, and no one cared.
I'm surprised Schofield had the gall to go back to EA and pitch it after The Callisto Protocol underperformed so dramatically
There's just no audience there these days for what Schofield likes to make
That Den of Geek article is a perfect summary. The remake was great - sales were really bad, so bad that the remake of the second part was simply cancelled.
It's hard to tell whether the game came out at the wrong time, or the price played a role, or whether the negativity from The Callisto Protocol also affected this game - but in the end, this remaster sold extremely poorly.
Resident Evil is it's own genre and whatever Schofield makes has little to do with thatThere's no audience for survival horror games? Tell that to Capcom.
It most likely sold more than Dead Space RemakeSchofield :
« Hey EA we have good ideas and we want to do Dead Space 4! »
EA after looking The Callisto sales

Re4 is the blueprint for deadspace. It was always a resident evil clone. Stop cappinResident Evil is it's own genre and whatever Schofield makes has little to do with that
A USD$165 million dollar single player, 6 hour horror game. Man, I never thought I'd see anyone take a swing that big at a horror game again. And yeah, graphically, it was all on the screen - game is fucking incredible looking. But oh boy, does it not play like a game built from esteemed developers with a massive budget. He blew it with Callisto Protocol. Likely the last time he will ever touch a AAA budget.
PC made it more apparent because it was a borderline broken port. The traversal stutter present on all platforms. Pc made it more apparent due to the higher frame rates.
I couldn't get myself to finish it as it was too immersion breaking. As far as I'm aware they never fixed that. Wouldn't have bought another in the series too support that
Consoles [showing Xbox Series] also have a little bit of traversal stutter, usually manifests with double animations frames, but here.. the game is just.. just not at all fun to play.
And loses all of that ambience and atmosphere because every single time you go near a door, and the game has tons of doors as that's just its design, and every single time you go near one, the game would stutter. And you could just go back and forth areas and just constantly having stutter.. oh.. it's such a shame.
By this comparison between the PS5 and PC version, you can clearly see that the PC version suffers obnoxious traversal stuttering due to Denuvo Anti-Tamper software incorporation whereas the PS5 version, however, barely stutters, and runs silky smooth 60fps at all!
In short, this proves that video game industry has to completely stop butchering PC customers by releasing an inferior PC product that's incorporated with BS Denuvo Anti-Tamper software that legitimately scans & checks to ensure you have a legit copy of the game on PC which is by far the worst business decision whatsoever!
System Spec: Intel Core i9-14900KS (5.9Ghz), RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X Video Card
None of the game "journalists" would cover Callisto protocol at the time because it wasn't an agenda game and was buried.
It's EXCELLENT and I highly recommend it.

Who in their right mind would give Schofield a bag of money after his last game was an unmitigated disaster
Yet Veilguard somehow did...EA can just fuck off and die already!Apparently 12 years ago EA said Dead Space 3 needed to sell 5 million units to continue.
Dead Space 4 makes little sense.
Remake sales were unsatisfactory, and when EA commented on the rumor of DS2 being cancelled as a result, they simply implied the game was never in development to begin with..WIll they make a dead space 2 remake or did the first sell like trash?
Unlikely given it was far more expensive to make than DSR.It most likely sold more than Dead Space Remake
Except every change they made to the game was for the worse. They're good at graphics though for sure. The only team that I wanted to touch DS going forward was the Remake team. That game is fucking airtight. The balls for Schofield to even pitch that after what a microwaved abortion of his own 20 year old ideas Callisto was.
Remake crew doing their own game would've been super interesting imo, they're very talented and have a lot of taste and restraint.
It's a bigger disgrace that the team behind Dead Space 1 Remake didn't get a chance to remake the sequel. They've done an incredible job with the first game.
Yet Veilguard somehow did...EA can just fuck off and die already!
DSR didn't sell by the looks of it. I think EA full on said DS2R was never on the table and then devs said later that yes, it was.WIll they make a dead space 2 remake or did the first sell like trash?
