Glen Schofield (OG Dead Space / Callisto Protocol) - 'We Pitched EA Dead Space 4 This Year, They Refused'

None of the game "journalists" would cover Callisto protocol at the time because it wasn't an agenda game and was buried.

It's EXCELLENT and I highly recommend it.

But it isn't though. Press X to dodge then hit. Repeat until bad guy dead. GFX are incredible though I'll give you that.

Except every change they made to the game was for the worse. They're good at graphics though for sure.
Listen. I understand putting down the pipe is hard after many years of wallowing in abject crack squalor. All those wasted decades of theft, robbery and snatching dogs from old ladies just to get that rock. I understand what you're going through.

But this is the final straw. You need help, Pika. Jessie seems like an evil ho who wants to enslave you but she's been trying to stage an intervention for so long 🥹

If you liked the Dead Space Remake, all you're saying is you liked the first Dead Space. Any credit for that game should go to the original developers.

Did the dead space remake really sell that badly? I would have at least expected a remake of the second one.

Can't say I blame EA that much. Same way gamers scammed them into resurrecting Mirrors Edge only for the game to flop and of course folks had the right excuse for why they didn't buy it.

I am hoping we see Dead Space 2 Remade. I blame the fans for not buying the remake of the first one. I thought the remake looked amazing. EA probably looked at the budget Sony spent on his last game. Didn't they involve an entirely new division of Sony to help finish the Callisto Protocol. That can't be cheap.

DSR didn't sell by the looks of it. I think EA full on said DS2R was never on the table and then devs said later that yes, it was.

I might be talking out of my ass but I feel like everyone has been seeing Resident Evil do the remakes and sell like hot cakes and they somehow think their Horror franchise is as relevant. I love Dead Space but that franchise has been deader than a door nail for ages so I can't imagine it sold anywhere near their no-doubt absurd expectations.
Did EA ever disclose DSR sales?

I can't really understand the Dead Space = Dead Space Remake comments at all..

One is a linear game, the other a completely interconnected Metroidvania made special and always scary/fresh by the Intensity Director.

Hey they still greenlit Hazelight's new game. But they've got a GOTY title under their belt and tbh I'm guessing the budget for Split Fiction is probably way less than what DS4 would need
It Takes Two sold 20M. That's probably more than all of the Dead Space franchise combined.

Not to mention that yeah, the budget for something like Split Fiction is much lower than a new AAA Dead Space game

Callisto Protocol is a much better game than reviewers wanted you to believe it is.

Jason Schreier made an article about crunching and how Glen Schofield was an asshole for being ok with it, and so "journalists" decided to cancel the guy by throwing the game under the bus and a lot of people bought this narrative.

I know many people that discovered the game with PS+ and went "wait, its actually good?". Not perfect, but damn good for a first entry of a new franchise.

Funny how despite saying they are on the devs side, journalists basically killed the studio for being against crunch

Good to know, and I'm 100% guilty of this - downloading the trial now. I truly despise how game reviews have become about things besides the actual game, should've known better.

Dead Space 1 is one of my top 3 survival horror games

System Shock 3 would be more interesting.
Personally I've never understood the love for System Shock. I played the original back in the late 90s (I actually vaguely remember finding it at a garage sale) and didn't care much for it at the time, and while I liked the sequel more it never clicked much with me.

A Dead Space sequel by Striking Distance sounds infinitely more interesting to me than a new System Shock game. Dead Space 1/2 are some of the best horror games ever made IMO (3 isn't a bad game but it's not a good DS game).

Dude had his chance to make a spiritual successor, even went as far as boasting about it being "AAAA", then he blew it with a shitty game that was worst than the original Dead Space in everything but graphics.

I can understand EA not wanting him to make a sequel.

of course they would, for the IP to be fresh and successful again there would need to be zero interference from execs.

The original DS was a hit because they let Redwood Shore do their thing in a corner and they left them alone.

Eh? The guys behind the Remake are now working on both Battlefield AND Iron Man. They're productively engaged. Why would it be a a 'disgrace' when they've got a chance to make bigger waves?
It's nice they still have jobs, but I'm guessing at least some of them would prefer to work on another Dead Space than help out with Battlefield. You could feel there was a lot of passion in the remake, as well as understanding what made the original so good and avoiding controversial changes.

It's time for people to accept that the Dead Space series was barely financially viable. It's a miracle we got as many games as we did after it failed to hit sales target after sales target.

They fumbled with Callisto pretty bad so it's no shock.

They need to get someone to fund Callisto 2. Just keep the sick graphics and make it play like dead space. More bosses, enemy variety, and dismember combat not evade combat.

Nobody is funding that shite. Game looked amazing but played like a pissed up retard with rickets.

Doesn't matter either way. EA has long since lost its artisan soul. Its a project that would've been micromanaged to oblivion with constant breathing down Schofield's neck from Wilson's assistants and team.

EA should just rename themselves into the "Soccer gacha and casino company©" for clarity's sake and avoid future confusion among the gaming audience.

For all of you getting a hard on with Dead Space, keep an eye out for Cronos.
Didn't hear about this till now. Checked out the trailer, looks awesome.
