Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Ahhh yes, 131 "random cunts" and not a SINGLE one gives it a 7.

But some random dude on NeoGAF thinks GoW is no different from 2018, just more bloated with checklist stuff.

I don't care man, you do you, I'm just glad I'm not so bitter and jaded that I can't enjoy this masterpiece of a game

Damn man chill lol, a review is a persons subjective opinion.

Kill all the Ravens. Open all the chests, solving the same 3 to 4 variety of ”puzzles”. Find the very obvious buried treasure. Kill the Hateful. I would go one, but it would end up spoiling later things in the game. Its busy work To do list stuff.
This crap again?

People use this argument to discredit any mega-popular game. Describe it in the simplest, mundane details to make it sound boring. You can do it with God of War or Elden Ring - two of the best games of the last decade. You can do it with any game.

Bounce the ball. Pass the ball. Throw the ball in the hoop. Repeat for three hours. Basketball.

Honestly now: I’m 30 hours in and although this is an amazing quality production it’s just that. There’s absolutely nothing revolutionary about it. The things I really like about it I’ve seen in Metroid Prime. And people shitting on TLOU narrative, Ragnarok is nowhere near the down to earth and simplicity of character interaction in those games. It’s exposition after exposition and you don’t feel close to anything or anyone. Nothing hits you emotionally. It gets the worst of Forbidden West.

It’s an amalgamation of every Sony AAA best traits. That’s cool but not enough for a masterpiece like the 10 out of 10s everywhere. Unbelievably well made, looks lovely but there’s no real magic in it.

8/10 indeed. Which is great.

I need more experimental Returnals at this point and less of this.

Why am I not surprised a warrior gets triggered over a very minor complaint. Y’all are so predictable.

When it comes from a place of sincerity.

I don't know what this means, someone whose putting in hours into the game can review it however they want. No one "hate plays" something just to review it less on purpose even if they actually enjoyed it.

Folks blowing gaskets over a GAF member giving it a 7/10 is the weird part tho. Who cares, enjoy the game. 7/10 isn't a *BAD* score anyway.

Wait till I finally jot down my review based on my time with the game

Uh, no? I was referencing fan sites and the like, as well as slacktivists that rate based on how triggered they are over gruff males (i.e. Day's Gone).

My comment had nothing to do with you.

Fair. Apologies, I had misread the conversation and intent.

You're the one warrioring here buddy. Anyone who likes God of War Ragnarok, a clear candidate for GOTY, MUST be a fanboy.

You seem incredibly triggered.
No. I am simply calling you, very specifically, a warrior. Because you absolutely are. You don’t see me calling DE a warrior for enjoying Ragnarok. Nor am I calling out tommib. Stop trying to pretend you aren’t one of the biggest Sony warriors on the site.

12 hours in and I can’t decide whether I am playing a GOW game or reading a YA novel. Currently playing as a 12 year boy riding on the back of a donkey with a 12 year old girl throwing paint around. Guys, honestly, there’s no way this on the rails, press O to squeeze through cracks, pubescent babysitter is in the running for GOTY. It’s beautiful as a screen shot, but beyond that, oh my. I’m giving a good ol college effort here, but I tell myself I’m going to sell it every time I start playing it. I feel so damn restricted and claustrophobic, so we’ll see.

That’s a short sequence in a gigantic game. No need for the queen drama. If you don’t like it, drop it. A YA novel? Please…

The quality of writing on that part is absolutely YA/CW level writing. It has been pointed out across all communities since the game first released. Glad you can enjoy that level of writing and dissonance, but many can’t.

I will say to midasmulligan midasmulligan , it does get better (in gameplay at least) with environments opening up and allowing for more freedom. But the writing continues to be very hit/miss throughout the rest of the 40+ hours you have left to go.

Shows why gaming is, in my opinion, in a rut at the moment. Game looks gorgeous and plays so well yet is really quite derivative and even at points laborious and downright boring! Those Atreus sections are so poor it's laughable.
Don't get me wrong, it's a solid 8/10 game but geez, people in certain sections say Nintendo get that bump up in reviews... How anyone thinks this is a 10/10 masterpiece is fucking crazy. Sony showing their true colours now with the same game repeated over and over.
Returnal was brilliant and worthy of FAR more praise the this game.

You can't read English, dude?
Yeah bunch nonsense.

"Derivative" - yeah find me another game like it. Go on. Show me one single game with fights like Garmr. The s8de content like the crater. The berserkers. Go on. Because I want to play another game like it. And according to you is derivative shouldn't be a problem to recomend

Nearly every Sony 1st party game is like GOW. If you can't see it then maybe take the playstation glasses off and have a look. Having some different side quests and boss fights don't make a game different.

Gow 2018 was a tour de force. An epic game. I'm 20 hours into ragnarok and it's just not quite there at all.

There's some great stuff but I am actually heartbroken it was a ps4 game and thinking of what this game could have been.

The boss fights have been brilliant and exciting but all the other combat just feels like I'm in a small bowl with enemies coming in packs of three or 4 total. Or the other arena is a small area at the bottom with a couple of bits you can swing across.

I actually miss the trolls. God of war has always had large enemies like cyclops etc but this game just has little small enemies in small packs fighting in bowls.

There is a lot I am really enjoying about this game. Its an absolute solid 8 out if ten for me so far abd I'm only 20 hours in of which I know is a large game but I am having some issues.

Overall great but seems to be suffering from Sony sequel itis . I don't think it quite knows what it wants to do, feels a bit messy compared to 2018 which just felt like they had a perfect vision and mastered it.

Excited to see what the rest of the game holds and hopefully I get some more fights that aren't just bowl type arenas and small enemies. I am hoping some big guys turn up as like mini bosses more often and for more epic boss fights.

Great game, just far from 2018 imo.

I think Cory just knew exactly what he wanted the team to do.

I'm really surprised this has reviewed the way it has.

I'm kinda feeling this too. I'm also about as far in the game, just under 19 hours, and I'm just not enjoying it like I did the previous game. Have my tastes changed in the four years since? Am I just playing in a different mood and mindset? Is playing CoD concurrently with it's instant-gratification fast gameplay loop making Ragnarok feel cumbersome and tedious by comparison? Hard to say. I just find myself getting impatient with the game. The constant stream of "puzzles" that block progress. The constant chatty companions and story that just isn't grabbing me. The combat just isn't clicking with me, the world just seems small and the way you move through it seems so tightly controlled. Forbidden West was also a "more of the same" sequel, but I much prefer that game's combat and open world, so more of the same was fine with me. Ragnarok certainly feels like a AAA game and it's not bad by any means, but it's just not grabbing me. I still have a lot of game left so maybe my opinion will change as I play more.

It's a 97/100 imo and yes it is a masterpiece
