Going back to Afghanistan…

Well I talked with my therapist…I won’t be going she made me realize that it may even make me trigger even more and like you guys said my safety come first since I have a family to take care of…
Wise decision. Good for you to not go back. Hope you will be doing well/better very soon.

I don’t think neatly bowtied closure is particularly real, tbh. There is only continuing to move forward and imprinting good experiences until the bad stuff has less space to occupy.
Wise words boss. Closure and healing is a continuous process, some things can’t be put away in a box and forgotten about but need to be processed fully.

Hope you get what you are looking for OverHeat OverHeat . As someone who has a lot of experience with a “troubled” veteran in my own family I hope you deal with your issues in the correct way and don’t bottle them up and don’t use the “bottle” to mask them either. Much love to you and your family.

edit: fixing grammar as was on phone earlier

No, I meant that he and his family should travel all over the US together. ( I think he is a US American). I think that would give him some memories that bring joy to travel not trauma.

He seemed to get that too.
I like that idea. Just gives me fond memories of when I traveled as a kid. There is some incredible beauty to be found in the states. Yosemite still sticks with me, I was amazed by it even as a kid.

If 2030 is your goal you have time to think about if this is what's best for you. I believe there are some well documented cases of Vietnam Veterans returning to Vietnam later in life to find closure and healing so there is certainly precedent for that. But honestly at this point in time it sure as hell doesn't seem like Afghanistan will be as safe or open to foreigners as Vietnam is. Two very different cultures and wars. It goes without saying and obviously you know this but if there is significant safety risk I would say staying home and continuing your therapy is probably the better option than risking your life and the wellbeing of your family.
