Hawken open beta

Has anybody been able to play yet? I'm already having problems. The intro tutorial won't let me pass after a certain point. I'm supposed to click on the assault mech but it doesn't do anything when I click where it tells me to. Couldn't find any games to join either. Tried for a few minutes in all regions and nothing would come up. Couldn't exit the game either. I had to close it through the task manager. Hopefully I'll be able to play tomorrow.

The controller support is so primitive that I can barely call it functional. As far as I can tell, as of now, there is no way to adjust the sensitivity or change key bindings. I hope they plan on giving us full X360 controller support in the final product. It should be obvious how well a game like this works with standard controllers.

Ya, this is one of the very few PC-exclusive first person shooters that I feel would play better with a pad.

Played the training before servers stopped working... guess I'll start matchmaking tomorrow. Pretty hyped still.

... unfortunately I'm leaving my place aka my PC for a few days from tomorrow afternoon.

That game is the BOMB guys and it's from a small studio so at least try it, it's free !

Seriously, don't sleep, it's fuckawsome.

First I'm hearing about this counter-measure pay thing. Interesting.
Feels like buying wards with real money in League of Legends, HAH!

Anyway, free is still awesome. Penny Arcade applies to this, except replace LoL with Hawken.

There are over 60 people working on it and Meteor has secured $28.5 million in funding. Not really small.

And it shows.
This is probably the highest productions values I've ever seen out of a Free-to-Play model game from the ground up.

Even like League of Legends, one of the most popular and profitable games in the entire world uses Adobe Air for its main UI. Hawken strives a little higher, and I like that.

Tribes: Ascend, Planetside 2, and Blacklight: Retribution are all pretty solid.

It is an enjoyable game.

I wish they would bring back the server browser as matches can still be very empty and uneven.

The matchmaking does seem better than before (Beta 3 and empty matches) because that almost single-handedly put me off.

Don't forget World of Tanks. Free2Play has come a long way in a relatively short time.

LET'S GET THIS HAWKING GOING!!!!

I know fun. I'm an expert, and I can attest that this game is fun. If you appreciate fun, or are in dire need of having some of it, look no further. This is it. Right here. Hawken, the game, the fun, the zero currency needed. You know you want it.

I'm not sure about all the currency stuff (I dunno how they work yet, what you can earn in game vs buy, if the unlocks are permanent or you rent stuff, what advantages they give - the mech you start with is a crappy bucket and looks like one too - etc) but the game itself is superbly made and so polished already that if it had a campaign mode it would be like an AAA production. Even the menu screens are really really well done. In game it has amazing graphics, not just technically but artistically, and extremely tight awesome controls. It feels kind of like first person Lost Planet's VS with the boosting and everything but they control more like a normal FPS and are even more agile, though the cockpit view helps it retain the mech feel. All this just from having messed around in the short tutorial level only and then watching the tutorials for the multiplayer modes. I'll dig in later.

I was hoping for heavy and crunchy mechs, instead I get Unreal Tournament in Mechs. Not a bad thing but not what I personally wanted.

I managed to make a customized controller setup for a wired 360 controller earlier today. Worked pretty well, though I'm not sure about the sensitivity because I didn't try to change it.

For some reason, whenever I try to create my account, nothing happens. I click the button, I don't get a conformation screen and It says account doesn't exist when I try to log in. I have tried this on 4 different browsers and still no good :(

Been waiting for this game so long and I can't fucking register!!!!!! FUUUUUUCCKKCKCKCKAOPJFIOFNAJKSFBAE:yg wj

I'm getting, like, double the framerate I got during the Aplha. Game finally feels tight and polished.

I would like the server browser back though. Great audio, great visuals, great fun.

Thanks for the heads up. Hope I'll be able to play this without barfing since I get severe motion sickness with these sorts of games. There's no way to turn down the bobbing is there?

Try turning up the FoV slider to 90 degrees.

I find that generally helps reduce instances of motion sickness.

Hey this game is super good!
Yes. Yes, it is.

It's too intense for me to do lengthy play sessions with, though, like most PvP games. But damn, it is fun!

Damn, seems the option to remove the static visual filter isn't there anymore. Ah well.

So, even though this is beta, they're opening up purchases and stuff that count towards "release"? Looking at the prices, I hope they have triple cash sales like SOE does for Planetside 2, or else I think I'm priced out of Hawken.

Who has spent money?
I bought the Commander Vanguard package, if that counts. Got the Sharpshooter, Brawler, and Berserker mechs. Honestly, so far, the Assault seems like a really strong choice. The Slug Rifle got a pretty big nerf damage-wise, so the Sharpshooter is only really effective on Siege when you're defending the AA. Haven't tried Brawler or Berserker yet, will probably check them out tomorrow.

Game is fucking great, probably the most fun I've ever had with a F2P game before.

See this thread for some helpful .INI tweaks (removing DOF, removing bloom, removing film grain, and turning off motion blur). Also, yes, it's an open beta launch. Everything from open beta will carry over to the "actual" launch.

Game's pretty cool, I like the movement a lot. Enabling Physx sure destroys FPS... I get 45-70 with everything on ultra with it off and can barely top 40 with it on and graphics set to high. Running 8GB of ram with a 1GB 6950 and an i5 2500k.

On systems without an nVidia GPU, PhysX work is relegated to the CPU. Have you overclocked your i5?

I was in the Alpha, as well.

Overall it doesn't seem remarkably different, just the kind of improvements you would expect over an Alpha. The levels are all complete now, the UI is better, the graphics are better, the garage is better, etc.

I got locked 60fps in the Alpha and I get locked 60fps now.
