But the core melody is a piece of music's core expression. You can alter around it to change its tone or mood, sure, but at the end of the day its still the same artistic expression. Williams' theme is for a very comic-book, slightly camp interpretation filled with sickening amounts of optimism and pro-Americana propaganda (in the loosest sense).Tobor said:I wouldn't want it "slapped on", no. Updated, enhanced, modernized, sure. I felt the same way about Nolan's Batman films, it's the only weak part of the movies for me. Both of those themes could be very malleable with a talented composer.
Unless this new film is going for that style, such a theme would not work even if modernised, enhanced or re-worked. At the very best, it'd simply be an element of confusion thrown on top - a character from a previous continuity. Same reason why they won't keep Routh around - expectation and baggage.
Keeping the original theme would be the worst artistic decision possible.
