High on Life | Review Thread

I watched a playtrough through after the first boss. I don't mind the humor and actually like it at some points but I just hate the art direction in this game, the weapons, the guns, the aliens, I hate all of it lol. Gonna have to pass.

Glad you guys are having fun!

Did the 1st bounty. Fresh, unique and fun. The talking gun is funny, same with the characters I've met so far. Opening segment… 👍🏿👍🏿

Great job 👏🏾 devs and MS for getting this on Gamepass.

I heard in an interview there are four full movies that they licensed through Vinegar Syndrome.

Tammy and the T-Rex is amazing, by the way. They essentially "borrowed" a robotic T-Rex prop that someone had access to for a week or so and hastily wrote and filmed an entire movie around it.

Sounds like with the update, folks are plenty happy. That's awesome. I really can't wait to fire this game back up tonight.

It's actually a bit of a shame as I think the game would've gotten higher scores if reviewers played with the day 1 patch.

I suppose there's only 15 reviews in though, so lots more scores to come.

Can I pay $10 to get the full game from the games intro? I need to know how the divorce was resolved!!!!!
By the way, was I the only one that paused the game and checked the door when the knocking started in this part? Hazards of a good surround system, it fooled the wife and I both.

Yap, this is now running pretty spot on.

Highly recommended to anyone who wants a laugh.

On a other note - I couldve sworn I was playing with HDR before the update?

Pro tip for LG owners : use HLG (and HGig or DTM), it gives the picture abit more pop.

There's cartoons and skits on small TV all over and radio as well

Really really good, much better. Im playing now on PC and the little issues i'd noticed are all gone to be honest

i only booted the series x version up to test it for like 2 or 3 mins but it felt much better, was a little choppy last night. PC Versions flying tho

Yes!!!!!

Happened to me too. We have a sound bar that mimics surround sound very well and it fooled me at 10:30pm last night. I was like, what was that!? Who the fuck is talking to me!?

Well, I just played for like 2 hours and then spent a while watching s film in this game. Game is absolutely excellent imo.

Will make my top ten of the year if it carries on like this. Looking to play more.

I'm upset that my tammy the t rex cut out after about 40 minutes though, I was hooked...lmao

Game is better than it had any right to be, and feels like a game...just a straight up game in 2022. I like this comedy and I don't care if that makes me a piece of shit lol.

Rewarding players for idling is kind of Squanch Games' thing. Trover famously claimed 20 hours of recorded dialog despite the game only being about 7 hours long. You could stand there and listen to guards talk to each other or whatever background shit seemingly forever and never hit the end of it. Most of the dialog clearly just improvised on the spot. This is actually slightly reigned in from that but you can see they kept all the loose improvisational stuff in the TV spots and stuff like that.

Yeah, I get vibes like the R&M's Interdimensional Cable episodes, where shit seems so adlib.

In a good way, of course. That's why I think some will hear the acting and think it's bad, when this is the style on purpose.

I just switched from game optimizer to vivid. I wish this game had HDR.

Geez a quick 5 min before and after vid wouldn't take much. If this were from "other" studios of the misbehaving canine variety, he would put out a 5 hour opus.
I get it though. High on Life wouldn't get the views that a "AAA developed" game would. That is one difference that Digital Foundry does do before putting out a video, they tend to wait for a Day 1 patch before they put a video out there.

I also like it. The writing really shines, not just in itself but the situations the game puts you in. It's really fun and makes for something really original despite the fact the gameplay is not.

I really love how unanimously folks are having fun playing this game. Great to see a fun-ass game with enjoyable humor, unlike the Borderlands shit.

Been playing it after the patch and it really does work flawlessly this time. It actually looks and plays super well for an indie - great animation and art design make it look like an AAA game at certain points.

Suddenly 2022 looks a whole lot better for xbox. Grounded, As Dusk Falls, Pentiment, Scorn and now this - a super diverse line-up and not one stinker there.

Beat the 1at boss and after I turned the bounty in Tammy and the t Rex started playing Been watching it since 😅

Awww they don't let you watch it all in one sitting.

Its also fixed on PC?
Yup. I updated on PC and it's flying now, im not seeing the stutter issue at all really(One super minor instance when first getting to the third level). But im all the way into the game forreal now and its good to go.

I did go beat the 3rd boss on my series x instead of pc to test the patch and yo the Series X version feels flawless. The colors pop so good on my big tv

More specifically,
I killed Krubis, got out of the pit. The first time there was a laser field blocking my way so I restarted my save. I don't see where to go. It's all poison lava shit.

I feel like the gameplay is kinda underrated. Some of these mini-bases in level 2 are not bad. Cover spots. Places to platform or hit groups with grenades. Its an above average FPS. Just need more weapons, but that's coming.

More weapons? What more do you need than a psychotic knife telling you to stab yourself?

The PC version never had the particular frame rate issue as the console versions but it did get a patch and the patch does improve performance, it's just not as night and day as the consoles.

Tested this again on Series S (going back and forth between Series S and PC) and it runs way, way better, really good now.

Confirmed. Can't interact with button I need to press to continue.
Damn. I thought it was safe.
And my ass is pretty damn far. :(

Performance is night and day vs yesterday. This session, I ran into a flying character that kept blabbering so annoyingly that I had to play muted for a couple minutes lol.
