Finished. Enjoyabe watching, miles ahead of Season 3 on that front but still completely absurd and Flanderized. Hoping the next season is the last.
That happened in E1 of season 2.Having watched the UK version years ago I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough when I saw reviews of the first season criticizing Zoe getting killed. Sorry to the Kate Mara fanboys and girls but it's fundamental to the entire series.
I finish this the other day. Overall I'd say 8/10, miles above the previous season(s) save season one.Other than that, everything else was spot on.The only cop-out was the assassination attempt, it really didn't fit the guy's character imo. I also feel the Republican opponent could have been given more character development; it felt like he came out of no where @ the end of the season. Also, putting the country on war footing over a dead hostage, needed to have been something a bit more drastic (large venue terrorist attack).
Great season!
So now Clair can break the fourth wall along with Frank? Interesting
Goose bumps.I kinda feel they wasted the first half though. Now it seems to be business as usual again and I love this show so the first half is kinda iffy.
It was essential to undo the damage to Claire's character from Season 3. Most of the weakest parts of this season were damage control from Season 3.
I really didn´t understand whyFreddy hated Frank all of a sudden, he is an evil bastard, but he always tried to be good to Freddy.
That happened in E1 of season 2.
Yeah,.weird
Also, anyone elsesurprised Frank didn't get some lovin' this season? Poor guy lol.

The biographer is creepier than Doug...
This is how I always viewed their relationship anyway.Didn't Freddy say in season 2 or 3 thatOr did I make that up?he never really respected Frank anyway? That he just humoured him and accepted that he was an outlet for Frank to ramble to?
This is how I always viewed their relationship anyway. They were never equals and Freddy knew that. Watching Frank go from Congressman to President while Freddy loses his business and ends up getting a job as a handout couldn't have endeared Frank to Freddy either.
Overall, I loved this season after being less than impressed by the last 2 seasons. My biggest problems with the characters are mirrored in the thread. I still can't stand Dougand I was actually sad when the writer returned. He's just awful and seeing him wandering the White House searching for Clair was pathetic. I understand how he fits into the Underwood's life but I just don't like him.
Doug spoilers:He is the personification of creepy dude. As soon as he started constantly looking at the images of the dead man's wife and then listening to her voice mail over and over, I figured we had another Rachel situation on our hands. I was surprised at how close they seemed to get so suddenly but whatever. I just don't understand what any of this is supposed to add to the story. Is he supposed to be sympathetic? I realize he is devoted to Frank but he hasn't really been relevant since season 2. The good ideas always come from someone else lately and he's as much a hindrance as anything else.
Ultimately, I enjoyed this season a lot and hope for more scorched earth shenanigans next season.

Frank would be dead without Doug's intervention with the donor list, which sure seems like another scandal waiting to blow up in public sometime during season five.
But you think he isn't relevant and don't understand why he's taken an interest in the dead man's wife....
I don't think Doug needs to be close to the dead man's wife in order for a scandal to occur though. The woman who helped get Frank to the top of the donor list knows what happened and that is independent of Doug's relationship with the widow. Including the relationship in the show only means more scenes of him looking at her pictures, listening to her voicemail, and boring trips to visit her where he lies and uses her to make himself feel better as if he's some sympathetic character. I'd rather we focus on almost any other character and scenario.
I don't like Doug at all and I find his actions tedious. I understand on the creep level why he's close to the dead man's wife. I'm honestly just tired of seeing him selfishly victimize innocent women. I'd had enough of this last season with Rachel when he chose to kill her and I am annoyed that he's doing it again.
I like his interactions and relationship with Frank though.
Doug may be getting close to her in order to try and prevent a scandal happening down the line.
He would try to avoid a scandal regardless. That's his job.
Of course, but knowing her personally gives him a much better chance of avoiding a scandal if she was somehow able to find out what happened to her husband.
I was ready to write this show off after season 3, but this was much, much better.
yeah i legit hate that dude fucking terrrrrible actor.. plus Conway reminds me of a older brother of Hayden Christiansen but an even worse actor...

I like Yates a lot as well!
And he's useful unlike some others.
Doug is going fuck everything up
Great season!

Wait... When did this happen? I just finished the season and I completely missed it.
That's fair but I still think that because of his loyalty to Frank, and his own culpability, he would already want to avoid scandal. And again, I just don't like him enough to want this new angle. Sure, we've added some guilt to Doug's feelings but who cares? He's still not sympathetic. He felt guilty about Rachel too but he still murdered her.
If your idea is that the widow may support his decision to get the liver for Frank instead of her husband, I don't know. I think she'll be even more upset finding out now after he's ingratiated himself into her and her family's life.
I really just don't like Doug and anything that means more personal life Doug is awful to me. I suppose they have a plan for him but after last season I just don't have the patience. I'd rather they spend time with any of the politicians instead.
Yeah,.weird

Not sure how this season got the same Metacritic score as last season. There's a world of difference.
