I don't see a problem with it. If they do anything to piss Miyazaki off he will just leave and start a new studio. From Software is nothing without him.

No team is made by only one man.

Callisto was made by the dude who made dead space and it sucks my sweaty balls (to be gentle)

And i'm sure you have countless examples of the same thing out there.

Yes. With Sony's management they will be shutdown in under half a decade and souls genre will fade away. Other developers can start making action games great again without their shadow looming over them.

Fuck off with this noise, Sony would have them start working on a GAAS souls-like. Sony didn't even publish the original Demon Souls outside of japan because they thought the game was shit. Keep them far away from From.

Sony released the best action game this year by partnering with shift up for stellar blade and Sony is a big reason FromSoft is what it is today due to their support early on

I love all this false doom narrative that their games are suddenly going to suck, when From’s best game to date is a Sony exclusive that had significant xDev support

Yes. Because they wouldn't touch FROM to any real degree.

Acquiring Kadokawa is about bolstering their Asian transmedia portfolio, which would expand their IP moat tremendously and secure them additional bargaining power in the face of increasing consolidation by Western big-tech players.

I would argue that Stellar Blade is basic and Rise of the Ronin is the only mechanically interesting one. Any shared souls DNA is to its detriment. Its quality is down to (Koei Tecmo parent company's) Team Ninja's experience and not Sony's pocketbook.

Bloodborne and Demon Souls are not FromSoft's best. The original Dark Souls is probably their best and it is that way primarily because it is not bound by publisher meddling or expectations.

Id rather sony build up studios to bring back classic ip i think if they go for a big gaming acquisition epic or t2 would make more sense

No, Sony is closing down studios that they encouraged to do the most egregious DEI initiative GAAS push.

All of their games are DEI hell in the last 5 years. Even Astro Bot pushes Aloy as the most important sony mascot today.

Plus, I do not know what you are talking about? lol
PC has the wokest games out there and the most of them and it's not even fucking close.

You guys caping for PC need to stop with this narrative.

Nintendo and Playstation are the least woke platforms in gaming and it's not even really debatable.

Bro, what?

Last of us 2, God of war ragnarok, horizon, concord...more?

What single publisher/platform is worse than that?

Anyway. On topic I genuinely don't mind personally if performance is decent.

I would prefer to keep buying my games on pc but if I had to own on ps it would be fine as I own them anyway.

Other than the obscure shovelware you find on steam that nobody gives 2 fucks about, whatt are those uberwoke famous pc games you are talking about that are much worse than sp2 or concord??

Dustborn that you can also play on a ps5?

Edit: oh you were actually talking about the showelware unironically uh :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Bloodborne is the best game FS has made
It has the coolest weapons, the best DLC, and the best aesthetic for a gothic castle off the beaten path but the main game is mid otherwise. The amount of werewolf bosses in the game and settings that blend into each other is a little ridiculous. It is somewhat saved by the varied bosses, great Caryll runes, and gems in the Chalice Dungeon in terms of replayability though (especially with glyphs mapped out by community). It is disconnected and monotonous at its core though. In other words lacking the element of adventure and profound discovery.

Elden Ring is more basic than SB mechanically
Elden Ring is an action RPG as opposed to an action game...

Why do they have to be famous to count as what they are? That's a strange line to draw.

Here is the LGBTQ+ section on Steam.

Acting like Playstation as a platform is more woke than that is absolutely ridiculous.

The only positive thing i can see from this is fromsoft games not sucking anymore in terms of graphic and performances and maybe having a story that i can follow instead of watching a recap from vaaty.

And maybe a bb sequel or remaster.

Graphics I don't think changes just because of Sony. Performance though I could see getting fixed.

Lacking discovery? Not at all. Did you even play it?

There’s huge optional side dungeons that are better designed than main dungeons in Elden Ring

Best combat, best level design, best bosses before they started just making them hyper aggro, and amazing art design

Because nobody gives 2 fucks about those games and they are all showelware made by single people or downright scams with barely any content.

All of these games combined probably sold 1\10 of sp2.

A lot of people defended and praise sp2 but i see fucking no one defending or praising the lgtb stuff on steam, like literally no one, they exist but nobody buy them other than a couple hundreds of people.

The fact that you have to pick obscure showelware to prove a point already speak loudly.

At best i can agree that sony is not the worse and they share the first place with microsoft.

I didn't pick obscure games.

I literally just linked to the section.

Does Steam have more woke games than Playstation?

Just answer Yes or No.

On the one hand:

I worry about the quality of future games from any company that gets bought out by a publicly traded corporation. Once the money lands in the accounts, the people who made the games good in the past tend to lose interest and retire/leave. Once they are gone, the people who take over don't seem to have the same sort of motivation to drive creativity and success because they're already working for a corporation. We've seen this over and over again. Look at what happened to Bioware.

On the other:

The company isn't going to sell just because Sony comes calling. If Sony buys them, it's because they were already for sale. If they're going to get bought, I'd rather they get bought by Sony than anyone else. If Sony buys them, that at least might make it easier to do something with the Bloodborne IP, which I will never stop spamming about.

Yes, and at least they have the decency of putting an advert that you are buying a game for lgbt, something that i can't say for the modern audience trash that was sp2.

So yeah steam has more lgbt games, sony and M have by far the most impacting and famous lgbt games no doubt, are you happy now?

If we judge just based on internet fame or what produce more grifter contents and how discussed these games are in hardcore places, steam is not even in the same universe as sony and m.

From a PC/Steam gamer perspective I see no pros in this, except maybe a slight chance of getting a AAA Bluepoint remake of Elden Ring, but Demon’s Souls isn’t on PC yet so might never happen.

Shouldn’t result in any serious cons, can’t imagine them doing any exclusivity when PC is such a big platform for them, but I don’t want to risk it.

Loomy

Thinks Microaggressions are Real
1. Limited userbase/exclusivity (far fewer people in the games industry would get to play FROM software games just to push hardware sales for one section of the industry)
Sony is not going to buy a revenue generating venture only to reduce the amount of revenue it generates. From games will still be available where they are today.

2. Job loss (Firing of FROM staff deemed superfluous during consolidation)
I think the loss would be on the Kadokawa side. The people there managing their studios would be replaced by SIE people. Developers would not be affected by this. They are already a relatively small studio.

3. Simplification of graphical options and loss of choice in presentation preference
I don't know what this means.

4. Creative interference-/Potential conflict of interest (narrative style adjustments, development workflow mandates, etc)
Might force them to up their tech game. Not necessarily a bad thing. But back to point 1 - they're not going to mess with a money maker.

5. Studio direction ultimately becomes tied to console venture's success (i.e. a bad set of years for the console and FROM might be disbanded, broken apart, or forced to develop a more 'strategically relevant' game in a different genre, regardless of their own studio's success)
See point 1.

6. Loss of ip ownership (FROM could eventually have to give up the soulsborne games to be developed by a different studio if there are strong enough disagreements)
Pretty sure they own Elden Ring and Sekiro. The others are owned by Sony and Bandai, if I'm not mistaken.

7. Worse experience for non-PS users (unnecessary PSN login, limiting sales regions, loss of PC/steam specific features like refunds and slightly better customer support)
Their games will still be on Steam. Those region issues will be interesting to see going forward, but aside from having to login to PSN(which is a non-issue if you're able to) I'd be surprised if there are any other sales restrictions on PC.

What other pros or cons can you think of?
Pro: Improved accessibility in their games, because my god...lol

The amount of goalpost moving and hypocrites in this thread is unreal especially after the whole MS buying Activision drama

Dont think it will be good for the game side of things, most likely Sony moving in on them mainly for the Anime/Manga side

sony, the same company that played demon souls back in the day, prior to release, and said it was total garbage.

having sony get involved and nesting with all their things is likely a horrible idea. end of an era perhaps.

"How many games does Steam have in general compared to Playstation" is the other half of the equation you're neglecting if that's how you want to define how woke a platform is.
