Forspoken has some redeeming qualities. For instance, you can customize about everything. I think your health, enemy health, auto pickups, mute banter etc etc. The game also has 40fps and runs far, far better than FFXVI in quality mode. But also in perf mode. While it does maintain a grander scale and verticality. After some updates I think the IQ and HDR was great.

The game is by no means great, but I did beat it and enjoyed doing so. Once you get the hang of the parkour and for me it was by setting a certain button to press once to initate parkour and maintaining unless you cancel with a stick press. This way you can let go of the buttons, auto climb, evade and run with LS, while aiming spells and turning the camera etc. I felt like a boss zapping around and nuking enemies. It looks very good in motion.

The game has some interesting lore, world building and some good music. Its just very repetitive and it doesn't go beyond parkour, finding some secrets and blasting enemies.

Here is some of the stuff you can (eventually) do. And see those weaknesses, FFXVI team?

Yeah the combat can be awesome

It’s a kind of fun 7.5/10 game IMO. It’s mostly perfectly enjoyable. Not the sort of mediocrity we want square to be spending big budgets on thoug.

Agree but when I played FFXVI I couldn't help to wish it ran on the same engine as Forspoken. Esp. on PS5. Its too bad they went with UE drivel after this one.

Ah, good to see a registered member of FDF (Forspoken Defense Force) is up to the task.

The thing is, the vast majority of people agree the game sucks. Just let it go.
Speaking of a “stfu” setting, now is a good time to use it here. Thanks for the reminder.

At first i hated the demo and hour or so of gameplay in a final version. Then I tried it again and kinda liked it and have played it quite far. It's not a super great game, but you can certainly have fun with it.

I'm playing God of War Ragnarok at the moment, and holy shit companions talk too much. Is Forspoken in the same ballpark even with the STFU option in the settings?

Actually, I hope you have fun and enjoy your time with the game. I haven't tried it but I want to give it a go at some point too to see if it really is *that* bad or not

The graphic downgrade from what they promised and what was delivered is the biggest in gaming history... From "wow THAT'S true next gen" to "well it'd run no problem on base PS4".
Nothing will ever top those infamous Killzone 2 and especially Motorstorm trailers form E3 2005. Isn't that why they sometimes state on trailers what's in game/in engine/gameplay nowadays?

I’m playing through it right now, started because of PSN downtime, and I’m having fun with it, but then again I enjoyed the demo a few years back.

Traversal is fun and fast, combat is pretty good too, and I find the lore fairly interesting. It likely won’t blow anyone away, but it was definitely worth $18 imo.

Despite the typical opinion, I liked the main character, her confidence, flaws and chattyness. But the story and other characters were so uninspired and lacked energy/entertainment value that it gave her nothing to work with.

The talking butler wrist watch, shouldve been an actual support character or animal or something. One that had its own problems, flaws, humour, sadness, poor decision making that led to a horrible back story or conflicts with the main character.

Something more than "better keep your house in order dear".

It can be fun. I'd recommend the game at $30. I got it, played it, enjoyed the traversal and the magic powers.
Story was kinda high production too, I liked the voice acting. Writing as OK.
Definitely would have been upset if I let the internet convince me it wasn't worth playing.

forspoken is a good time, but the start is indeed very slow, the escaping the tower nonsense is just dreadful and I dunno why they kept the more interesting combat until after the first boss.
After that I had a really good time with it though, the combat turns into something very enganging and excellent, the traversal is great and just keeps getting better as the game progresses, and the OST is absolutely great, my pick for best OST of 2023.
The characters and story are fine, all the dumb memed shit is from the very start of the game, and frey grows quite a bit as a character from start to the end.

I played a little on ps5 when it came to ps plus and enjoyed it but performance mode looked pretty bad to me. I sold my ps5 now and want to play on pc but it has kept it's price weirdly high on pc. When it goes on sale for £15 I'll grab it I think.

Surely there is something better to play on PS5
This is one of best ps5 games.
Looking at this thread - damn, you people really are not capable of thinking for yourselves? Can’t you see the game got extra meme hate ? If ai could have this feeling around release, so can you

Performance mode sucks. 120hz quality mode is 40fps and it’s ok.
I’ve not tested performance mode on pro though.

I played through to the end in PS5 Pro's Performance Mode (120Hz).
The high DRS resolution allowed me to enjoy clear image quality and a comfortable frame rate.
I was also pleased that I was able to finish it in under 20 hours, despite it being an open-world game.
I gave the DEMO version a score of 4/10, but now I give it an 8/10.

Forspoken is extremely mid. The gameplay is excellent and the parkouring and combat is a lot of fun. Lots of cool magic abilities to use. The world building is pretty good too, with an interesting visual concept that makes the world enjoyable both to look at and to run around and explore.

That's the good part. The bad parts is the story and characters, and the fact that the game evolves to a shallow Ubi-type formula where you just routinely check off different map markers in order to upgrade Frey. It's the very definition of filler content.

Frey is also insufferable and badly written. I get what the writers intended with her arc, an anti hero that feels abandoned by the people that should've cared for her, and who ultimately rise up to the task to save the world and everywhere around her. But the writers don't have the talent to pull it off and it all comes off as super cringe and forced. Ella Balinska does a commendable job with the hand she's dealt, but Frey is just an obnoxious asshole that is very hard to sympathize with. And the writers is at fault. The dialogue is so poorly written that you feel second hand embarrassment just listening to it.

Forspoken is a dull and bland game that occasionally shines through, mostly because the gameplay loop is very fun. But ultimately it gets repetitive and downright boring, and you just run around fighting the same monsters, complete the same tedious map markers for the hundreth time, and because the story and characters are not engaging enough to push forward, the game just falls apart right in front of your eyes.

Well said, this is how I felt about it.

It gets more hate than it deserves, but it’s not an underrated classic either.

I managed to stick with it for the platinum, but it was touch and go at times. I think my OCD saw me through :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Nice to see pro helps dra on performance mode too. Yeah it’s a lovely game that grows on you.
And I agree. The demo was really weird and the marketing was awful and rushed
