Wait... Hook is considered a terrible movie now?

Other than the horrific choice of Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, I thought it qualified as one of the last true classics of the old Spielberg era.

Hook has always been considered terrible. Unless you saw it as a little kid, then it is okay.

We've been told this lie before

Exactly.

They had me so pumped with these promises and instead we got long winded hyper real stunts and set pieces.

I want real stunt men and good shit!

Hook was one of those movies that every kid liked, I never saw any hate for that movie whatsoever until the internet.

LOL at the people who don't want an Indy 5. Why would you not want one? If it sucks then just ignore it, if it's awesome then you have another awesome Indy Jones movie. I enjoyed Indy 4 though, not as good as the old ones but entertaining nonetheless. Hopefully they've learned from the criticism of 4 and will come up with something really good for 5.

Well, admittedly, it's not going to evoke anything positive from the jaded twenty-something crowd. As a teen watching it in the theater, I thought it was great.

Supposedly, Sony just finished a new HD master for blu-ray sometime this holiday season. I'd definitely pick it up.

THey don't have faith they will ever be able to make a good one, so it's best to stop now before they tarnish the franchise like the Star Wars prequels did to Star Wars.

As a teen watching it in the theater, I felt incredibly embarassed for myself and all those involved.

Yeah, it is a real shame how the prequels made the originals sell so poorly on DVD. Why are they even wasting the plastic to put them on Blu-Ray?

If you don't like the movie, IGNORE IT. Why would you let George Lucas decide what is and is not canon in Star Wars or Indy Jones or whatever? If you hate the prequels just don't recognize them as canon. Just cause they made these movies doesn't mean they have absolute control over every aspect of them. You guys act like Lucas is the god of Star Wars. He's not. He just created it. You gotta live with it as a fan so if you don't like what he does just ignore it.

The reputation of Star Wars is partly tarnished because of how bad the prequels were perceived. You know what I mean, don't try to cover it up with DVD sales figures.

Ehh, as much as I disliked the prequels, I definitely that that is not true. Just have to look at the latest Star Wars Celebration from last week to realize Star Wars is as loved as ever.

I know exactly what you mean and the DVD sales prove your point to be invalid.

People still love Star Wars. Some like one of 'em, some like all of 'em.

I'm game for a fifth installment as long as George Lucas doesn't direct or pen the script.

Save for the two minutes of screen time dedicated to prairie dogs, nuked refrigerators and vine swinging (all George's idea, I'm sure), I quite liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls and found it to be at least more enjoyable than Temple of Doom. Who knows, maybe it's because I don't have any nostalgia for the franchise, or because I went into Skulls expecting a lighthearted reunion piece that wouldn't take itself super seriously while paying homage to the science fiction B-movies of the 1950s.

P.S. I don't understand the Internets immense hatred of Shia LaBeouf.

Star Wars rep was tarnished amongst nerds and film snobs.

The public didn't give a rats ass about how the prequels were received. Franchise is still pretty much the largest in the world, only franchise that can put on it's own con and have over 35,000 fans show up from around the world. The highest rated show on CN two years running, the top selling toy franchise several years in a row, a merchandising Juggernaut.

People like to act like the prequels somehow killed the franchise when it's as strong and if not stronger than ever with the massive influx of new generation of fans.

Also not all fans are petty who let something negative kill their enthusiasm for the entire franchise.

I get what yer saying, it's evidence in every prequel and OT discussion thread. People wouldn't be coming into those threads to diss or discuss at length without actually having a deep love or care about the franchise. So yes, there is love, but a resentful bitter love at times from butthurt nerds. Same will go for Indy

Except Dustin Hoffman. Maybe I'm remembering wrong because it's been a while, but he gave a mustache-twitching performance for the ages.

I saw it for the first time two years ago. It's my favorite movie of all time.

Also, other than the bomb in the hotel, what was so good about Munich?

I think it's a good movie, but... man... :lol

It took time. I thought it was incredibly kiddy at first. But then I couldn't see any real reason to dislike it. I couldn't stop re-watching it.

So do you guys agree that Crystal Skull was the worst movie Spielburg ever made? Man, even Hook had some classic moments amidst all the treacle. I'm not counting 1941, btw.

No The Lost World is his worst movie. But then again Spielberg deteriorated as a filmmaker in the late 90s starting wtih The Lost World. Just look at A.I., E.T. special edition, Terminal and War of the Worlds all total dogshit. Minority Report was decent but it would have been alot better if old school Spielberg made it. It had too many weird gross scenes and stuff for no reason.

People always give Lucas crap but Spielberg is just as bad. Indy 4 proved it.
