I don't think you're understanding what he's saying.

21:9 isn't magic. The reason it renders extra on the sides is because of how FOV works. He's saying if you see more horizontally in 21:9, you could also get a game to render the same amount at 16:9 by increasing the FOV. Then you'd see exactly what the 21:9 shows but with added top and bottom.

My bigger question would be what panel you're on. If you are going to get uneven OLED wear I'm not sure it's a great long term choice.

I think 21:9 looks fantastic. I might force a 21:9 res on my 1440p and see how it looks.

I think a sequel to The Order 1886 could have been very cool. With them having the opportunity to address all the issues of the first one.

The problem with console game having black bars constantly means I can’t play for too long a session, because OLED is prone to burn in.

it wasn't 2.40:1 it was 16:9 with black bars... at a time where most people had LCD display where black bars meant a grey glow above and below the game's image.

everything that game did was shit, including that. and they only did it to save GPU resources btw... and I bet partially to complete the sheer pretentiousness of the whole shitshow they released

No doubt, the game had a lot going for it.. the lore and the characters had so much potential.. the graphics and attention to detail was surreal… sure the game had some issues but the amount of hate it received was completely not deserved..

Wtf are you talking about? It was absolutely 2.40:1.. or you also say the movies you see on your tv are 16:9 with black bars?

It would be a lot easier to swallow the Order of ultrawide screens was being advertised. An owner myself, I just can't go back to 16:9.

Do you know how FoV works?

If you set your FoV to say 100 degrees, then your horizontal FoV is 100 degrees regardless whether you’re playing in 16:9 or 21:9. All setting it to 21:9 does is chop off the top and bottom.

same thing for "30fps is unplayable now".
People get used to new stuff.
I had 120hz eizo crt in 2000. 240hz tn gsync monitor in like 2017.... 144hz ips monitors. now 120hz oled for a few years.
And I don't care. 30, 60, 120 it's all fine. Obviously if you play at 120 for some time, then 60 looks like crap. for 1 evening. if you don't switch back and forth, 60 gets super smooth again no problem.
Honestly the same for 30. after the inital shock, you get used to it
