Is Concord headed to be Sony's biggest first party flop ever?

You are trying to have a conversation with a woke liberal who doesn't even have the courage to state his opinion on the subject but always spams nonsense as an "objective observator who doesn't support or oppose either side". This is so pathetic.

Saying that you did doesn't mean you actually did say it.

It is because you grossly represented my original statement. A game, particularly a multiplayer focused one that has a free beta, that is reliant on player retention needs to be "fun" or otherwise, the consumers won't be arsed to keep playing said game. The market has decided that despite the free status of the open beta, Concord is not worth playing.

The game is fun, for you. But based on statistics, it is apparently not fun for most people.
Since most people didn't try out the beta, it can't be said that most people think it isn't fun.

All it says is that most people have no interest in the game, which isn't the same.

Most people who did try it out, didn't think it sucked.
And most of those people, actually liked it.

Those are the only facts.

I think it should just go F2P, and that would be a major boon to the game. if it needs to be bought, its DOA.
It already was F2P during the open beta and nobody cared.

Realistically they need to delay the game a year and redesign all the characters just as a start.

Game was made through a focus group with "modern audiences" in mind. Too bad that the greatest appeal to a hero shooter isn't there, the heroes. They are ugly and uninspired. No sane person wants to play big brute lady that seems mad at all time and with bad make up, neither want to play the schizo fentanyl addicted furry lady that is a discount tracer. The most memorable character is probably the pansy garbage can robot, just because he is big and yellow.

This game will be studied as a cautionary tale on what not to do with your game during production.

I genuinely like your response btw, I merely disagree and appreciate the effort you put in the post.
I appreciate your response too. I think the 'culture wars' thing is designed to feed this kind of balkanisation and the best thing you can do is calmly compare and contrast thoughts and opinions. To respond directly to some of yours:

Secondly, who is anyone to tell others that they must disclose their intent behind an artistic choice?
Absolutely no-one, but when you publish your art, people are free to interpret and construe it as they want. You may want to respond and clarify your intent, or you may prefer to be elusive - that's your call. But your freedom to express yourself through art is balanced by other people's freedom to critique it. That's fair and equitable.

This is a level of scrutiny i'd rather not be a part of, artist are free to create what they want.
They are indeed, but I think we have to be frank: massive mainstream video games are not one person's unvarnished artistic vision - they're products, developed by huge teams with massive investment from different stakeholders. They're designed with a consumer in mind and consumers are entirely within their rights to reject a product on any grounds: whether it be cost, quality, or indeed the values the company is aligned with. Most of us have a handful of companies that we won't buy from 'on principle' and I don't think you can argue against that individual freedom without impinging upon the principles of the free market or the right to free association.

What would the solution even be btw? Put a lie detector test on all artist and ask them to pledge allegiance to some idea to, you know make sure they make what you want and not an "agenda"? Would that not be forcing someone to create something or? lol I kid with the lolz, but genuinely, what on earth would the fucking solution even be to what you are saying?
I don't think that's necessary, I think the simple solution is for Western middle-class metropolitan media types to take a humility and check and realise that their political outlook doesn't represent some apex of human morality and that they are not uniquely positioned to educate the poor, ignorant masses. The arrogance is colossal - the assumption, to take an outsized example, that the Western view of gender non-conformism (a phenomenon that has been observed and understood in a thousand different ways over the course of human history) now has a single universal explanation that (wouldn't you believe it, America) is best addressed through medical intervention takes an immense level of hubris. Instead of pretending to be the 'educated' ones, they might do better to admit that gender is a complex social paradigm that everyone is forced to interact with and, as such, everyone has a right to take a view on.

The people livid at the 'woke' movement are, in the main, unfussed about women, people or colour or even people from gender minorities being represented in mainstream media. They're simply tired of being told that what they want and everything they care about is wrong, has no value, is childish, pathetic, disgusting, degrading, harmful, bigoted, ignorant, or problematic. They're tired of the moral high-handedness of people on six-figure salaries with massive social and media influence telling people who have next to fuck all that they need to consider their privilege and that because they represent the majority of people in a particular country, their views are worthless.

Stop taking that approach with ordinary, well-meaning and otherwise decent human beings and you might well find that you'll get far less pushback.

And for the benefit of doubt, I'm saying all this as a tree-hugging, vegan socialist who works in mainstream media.

Sony knew this would happen, they aren’t stupid. They knew of the 10 live service games they planned to launch some of them wouldn’t be good but it’s worth the risk if at least one ends up being a hit.

They are basically gambling but this strategy wouldn’t be so bad if they at least had more single player games being released to balance things out. From what I can see Astro Bot is their last big single player game for the rest of the year and that’s crazy.
So far, for 2024, they released:

-Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin for singpleplayer

- Helldivers 2 for Gaas

For the rest of 2024 they have:

- Astro Bot, Lego Horizon Adventures and Until Dawn for singleplayer

- Concord for Gaas.

That's 5 sp vs 2 Gaas.

Exactly. I'll be playing Stellar Blade for awhile. Then Astro bot. Circle back to Ronin, and Helldivers 2 is about to ahve a big update, and i should get back to . . . at this point I'll just play concord some if it ever comes to PS+ premium or is made to be F2P. I'm good.

I don't care much for those sp titles much, although I might buy Lego Horizon and Until Dawn, but people should stop acting like Sony focuses primarily on Gaas when it's not the case at all.

Sadly Ape Escape doesn't fit Sony's strategy, they probably think Astro Bot is sufficient. But AE1 was legit great on PS1, and 2 was very good on PS2. Never played 3. But this IP would be a good addition to target younger gamers.
I would kick astro in his useless ass to get an high budget ape escape game instead.

I hate collect-a-thon games, so I thought I'd hate whatever that lego game was, but it looks more like a real campaign . . . I might actually want it.
I never played all of Until Dawn, couldn't get the people to come back over to finish it. ha. I hope there's an upgrade path.

Its possible they will react upon this extremely low player count they likely never saw coming. This is already deadly for a game like CoD you can solo, let alone a team shooter. Destruction Allstars was changed to being a Plus addition from day one, and then eventually sold for 20 bucks. Something similar might be going down here as this releasing this game as is will get them nowhere.

Stick a fork in it. At this point I seriously doubt it launches as planned. I am gonna guess they delay it and rework it as a f2p game.

There are more people looking forward to whatever this is lmao

Kinda interesting that the most wishlisted game is Black Myth Wukong, a game that is specifically non-woke, and called out the DEI consulting grift they were being targeted by.

I don't get this take. I never "hope" videogames fail.

I get the DEI crap, but if the game was actually great then I could easily look past it.
I do hope it fails. The reason is because so much of the industry is now geared for making this soulless, design-by-committee, DEI infested, trend chasing, “modern audiences” entertainment slop, and the only way that’s going to change is for these projects to fail catastrophically.

Yeah I would rather that they made something better in the first place, but it’s too late for that now.

Well, that is the same twit who for some reason chose to highlight a queer employee getting canned in the Humble Games closure thread. 🙄

Evil people lol.

Yeah? I guess if you don't see them that way its not an issue for you. I think if you hate white people because of who they are is evil or at least makes you bad, but I guess not everybody agrees

Evil people are profiting of you all the time champ

And thats not a good thing, hence my attempt to not purchase their products

The rationale is that if they succeed, they will keep making games like this. If they fail, eventually, they will change.

Looking at the bigger picture, you want creators to produce good stuff for an actual audience, not for a political committee or for some multi-trillion corporation that doesn't give a shit about the state of the entertainment industry.

it's not only multiplayer gaas but also DEIslop so this game bombing might be a win for us all i say this as someone who only owns a ps5 for gaming right now

You cant make people be more talented at their jobs. You either got it or you aint. The DEI stuff is only one reason this is looking like a bomb.

Like i said above, if this bombs their next project likely will as well. Its just not a very good product. its not just the art direction, the game itself is bang average at best.

It might find an audience you never know and then that's great for people who do like it, for everyone else it can just be ignored and we can just play something else.

Surely based off the numbers they have, they aren't going to waste any $ supporting this game. Make it F2P and take what you can get from here.

In the meantime, since you wasted money buying them, make these guys work on a Single Player Shooter now, they seem to know shooters and Sony is missing this.

This seems like the only way to literally justify buying this studio and finding something good come out of it.

No? But what makes you think they would do better second time around>?
I’m confused, maybe we are just talking past each other. I don’t think they’d do better the second time around and I’m not advocating for that.

Best case scenario would be for this game to bomb so bad that the studio gets shut down and whatever talented people there are get transferred to other, better studios where their talents can be used in service of a game that has some hope of success. And the rest of them get jobs in the food service or sex work industries.

No Battle Pass. Shouldn't this be celebrated by the usual suspects? Why are they quiet all of a sudden?

Makes me wonder, what is even their business model?

Just €40 and that's it? All extra content for free, all unlockable through the Job Board?
