Is From Software the last honest big name in gaming?

I read id Software. Never mind me OP.

After the shit id and Bethesda pulled with Mick Gordon, I would not place them in the good guys category.

I haven’t enjoyed anything FromSoft has made, but it’s clear from the critical and fan response they’re something special, and making something special, even if it’s not for me.

But to be god tier then surely game optimisation and performance needs to be considered, too.
If BluePoint remake Elden Ring/Bloodbourne in the future with the same level of polish, fidelity, and performance as Demon’s Souls, I’d buy it instantly again just to remind myself they’re just not my kind of game.

The truth is always in the middle. I wouldnt exactly trust Mick either, however what we know as a fact is that id has made only legendary games, yes, Rage included.
Although it feels incomplete here and there, like the abrupt ending, i like the first Rage alot.

Modern day id is very different. And Bethesda is Bethesda.
I put a lot more trust in Mick Gordon than in Bethesda. Besides, Mick showed a ton of emails and communications, to prove his point.

I'm retarded?

The first Rage had some pretty crazy enemy AI. Reminded me at times of FEAR. I enjoyed the second one as well even if it wasnt...a classical id game.

Bethesda is Bethesda. even if id is under them, I wouldnt put them in the same bucket. id also disproved Mick's claim only for him to respond years later which was very odd. Again, dont trust anyone, I do trust what I played tho and id are still top dog.

Mick waited and gathered proofs for a couple of years. And gave id and Bethesda, plenty of opportunities to backtrack and make things right.

You trust Atlus? The company that always releases a game, and later on, the same game but with some additional content and QoL improvements that make the game better? With no upgrade path?

Their games are great. Their business practices are horrible.
That’s why I trust them, they make great games.

...and milk their customers to death for it. Got it.

There can be a difference between making great games, and being a bitch about it. But I guess you're willing to take it dry.
There are people in GAF who trust devs like CPR even tho they release broken games and not just CP2077, I remember when Witcher 3 first came out had lot technical issues, heck I even Witcher 3 for next gen update also had tones of issues but people like their games despite of that.

It’s same for me when comes to Atlus.

Naughty dog? Remedy? Rockstar? etc

Or did the developers i list kidnap your whole family
Their games were never as good as the great games from Japan. They got a few games right (On PS2 / PS3). But that's it as they were lost into policital correctness real fast. What games did remedy do that were awesome. I forgot.

The games I enjoyed the most on PS5 were indies and games from Japan (or made in Japan and remastered by western developers).

Western developers know how to make great graphics, but the rest of the game (fun, gameplay, level design) is still mastered by Japanese developers.

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
- No draconian drm
- No milking of franchises; they pursue a passionate artistic vision and don’t sacrifice it… Ubisoft would already be at Bloodborne 27
- No microtransactions, only ultra high quality DLC expansions
- Long and proven track record of outputting quality work and doing the right thing
- No pandering to anybody or anything… they just focus on making quality games.

It's not about trusting CDPR. It's about the fact that Fantom Liberty was a standalone expansion, that was well worth the price. But something like P5 to P5 Royal - well fuck you, you will still pay the full price of a new game, despite having already bought it. Do you think this is ok?

I don't mind paying full price for a game. What I do mind, is the fact that in order to play an expansion, I basically have to buy the game again, at full price. Which I think is bullshit, and I'd like you to argue otherwise.

The most overhyped company. All their games are janky as hell with poor framerate and framepacing, graphically they always seem a gen behind and yet their games are always a technical mess. But for some reason they just always get a pass on all of that 🤷‍♂️.
I really enjoy their games, but I also agree with this.

Isn’t Sony doing the same thing, how many releases we got for The Last of Us? At least with P5 Royal they added new gameplay mechanics and story element but with Last of Us just upgrading visuals.

FUCK From drones, man.
LMAO GAF pretending Nintendo doesn't exist as usual
I hope you mean Nintendo EPD and not NCL as a whole, lol.
Anyway, GAF pretending that a lot of good studios out there don't exist.
After Rescue Mission and Astro Bot, Team Asobi is just my favorite one right now.

I know some people might say CD Projekt Red is not too distant especially with GOG… but even they’ve faltered at times… Cyberpunk was a disaster at launch for example.

I’m not saying everything From Software ever released is a masterpiece, all I’m saying is I think they’re the ideal representation of what gamers want and value most.
You are absolutely right.

And Elden Ring still is dog shit in the dark souls tiers.

TLOU Part 1 is a remake, though. Atlus is particularly bad because they didn't use to do this shit before.
The worst part is that it didn't even need to be this way. I know for a fact that, in Japan, Persona 3 FES on PS2 also had an append version for people who owned the original P3 (which was, of course, required) and didn't want to buy the entire game again at full price.
In the age of digital upgrades and DLC, it's completely baffling that Atlus is out there with such primitive practices that wouldn't even belong in the PS2 era (as proved above).

Dude, I feel you're not really getting my argument, so perhaps I have to speak in your terms. Notice me senpai!

It's not the fact that there are re-releases, remakes, whatnot. It's the fact that in order to get the update, you have to buy the full game again. At full price, with no upgrade path. Do you understand this? Like, is 10€ equal to 70€ to you? If it is, good for you. If it isn't, then what is the matter with you. Atlus absolutely fleeces people with offering no upgrade path. That's just a matter of fact, regardless of how you feel about the games.

Oh they did, do you how many times they released Nocturne.

We had original Nocturne, Maniax version and Chronicle edition.

The only difference is in west we only got Maniax version.

Oh, I was talking about Persona, I'm not sure if SMT3 had additional append discs (it probably did anyway). But looking at the options you had for getting P3 FES back in the day (in Japan), it sucks that it has gotten even worse since then.
At least P4 Golden was released on Vita after the original one being a PS2 game, but P5 Royal releasing on the same console as the vanilla version? No excuses.

I like how people keep comparing developers from one region to publishers from another, but barely anyone is calling this out.

Sure I guess you can say From Software is an honest company. Bandai Namco however is not.

To be fair, From Software is indeed a publisher, and among the better ones in Japan.
SEGA, Capcom, KDE, BNE or Square Enix, though? God help us.

"No milking of franchises"
Debatable. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, Elden Ring could all be called Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Trust is a strong word for a companies that want your money.
Well if they keep making quality products why not? That's what keeps people loyal to companies.

I used to be a big fanboy of Corsair products. At one point in time I had a Corsair case, psu, ram, CPU and RAM cooler, keyboard, mouse, deskpad and headset in 2014. They could do no wrong far as I was concerned.

Then at some point the design language changed, looked less professional and more "gamey," rgb and glass everything, overpriced products, ram binning, which was their speciality, wasn't that great anymore, the aio coolers weren't worth the asking price anymore.

I still use their PSUs, but nah.
