Is Hellblade 2 worth playing?

The visuals of the game are fantastic, but it seems this game has 'limited' gameplay overall. In some ways it looks like a tech demo. Still, I'm not averse to playing interactive movies if the story and overall presentation is good. Worth playing or an easy skip?

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I'll check it out once it's on a deep sale.

It´s worth seeing.
"Playing" though....
If you`re already on GP, absolutely have a look.
If you ponder about purchasing it: don`t.

This game is very polarising for a reason - the character you control goes through a mental hell in the first game and this one is about her gaining confidence and be in control of her own destiny, told in a very un-fun, sad but low-key inspiring way. It is a very emphatic look at the character and her struggles, so I guess the game demands you, the player, to feel empathy for her as well otherwise it will be a colossal pain in the ass to play through.

Fights are awesome. Simple as fuck, but visceral and brutal. I felt every hit so much more than a typical action game where you just spam all the buttons to beat up baddies.

What I didn't get is why all the voices inside her head were encouraging and supporting instead of demeaning and insulting?

As far as I know the horror of suffering schizophrenia is having these invasive thoughts/voices that constantly try to bring you down, not support you.

So even thematically this "game" is a fail

Did you play the first game?

The first couple hours or so
The more positive voices are kind of her journey at the end of the first game. She resolves a lot of the anger and anxiety, but obviously not all of it.

The second game builds on that and this is about her coming to terms with what happened and expressing empathy of the giants and generally growing to move past the last of the trauma (imo) with hope and acceptance.

I see, but from my, admittedly limited, knowledge schizophrenia doesn't go away, it's not something you can work through and leave behind, it's an illness that's there for the rest of your life and can only be managed through proper medication.

I understand it's a fantasy game, but if they pride themselves on tackling serious subject matter it rings quite hollow to make everything rainbows and sunshine imho

If you want a cinematic experience, then sure. It's short, has bunch of walking, some truly amazing visuals and audio, the combat is not very complex but it is super cinematic, also it has a few cool set pieces. The puzzles are okayish.

I guess it's down to what you believe. The studio did consult with eminent specialists in the field it's worth mentioning.

Yeah, ultimately schizophrenia isn't something that 'goes away' but through experiences and reduction in anxiety you can move into a healthier place. Reframing certain triggers, a reduction in stress and reflective insight can all contribute to embracing a more positive mindset. That's how I interpret the journey of the two games. I wouldn't expect a third title to have no voices for example.

At the end of the day, none of us are experts and have to just take a leap based on what is presented or we've generally touched on in life, through books or experiences.

Perhaps just for the animations and overall visuals. Not very good in terms of a game though.

No, not really.
If you can get it for free, like on gamepass, maybe play it for an hour, just to see the graphics and stuff.

That's subjective, and I'm not even sure about my own concrete conclusion about the experience.

However, what's not subjective is that what's there is very well made 🤷‍♂️
