Japan Charts: Media Create 3 - 9 October

Nothing much this week (only Londonian Gothics for the DS).

Obviously,as you said, next week is big on the DS (though I'm not sure they will dominate any more than they currently do)-

Super Princess Peach
Pokemon Puzzle
Tendo Doctor 2
Where do babies come from?
+ Endless Summer

PSP has a good week as well with-

Brain Training (which should be big, could even push PSP sales)
Burnout legends
+ Fuku Fuku (which is Sony's Animal Crossing type game)

i doubt psp brain traing will sell since ds brain traing is still top ten, also burn out legends is going no where in japan. and the animal crossing knock of well. we shall see about that. in all i say pokem will kill the charts next week with togam, and then peach and brain training games.

Based on MC tracking of Mario Bros the last two weeks and adding it with Famitsu, who is 2 weeks behind from the chart I current have, SMB stands at 888k sold. It could hit a million in a month. :lol

DS still managed 39k without much of anything to push it. Pretty damn good.

It's now 25 straight weeks with the DS ahead of the PSP, too. :)

Solid PSP numbers. Considering the SW sales, I thought it would flop horribly.

Your DS and DS Lead numbers are each 1,000 too low.

The notes.
Sales of the top 100 titles totaled 678,251 units, 143.01% of last week's total and 88.76% of the weekly average.

Three new releases took spots in the top 100, and these titles accounted for 49.25% of sales. Among these new titles, top-ranked "Dragon Ball Z Sparking!" stood out, and the majority of the increase in sales was on account of this title.

Sales of "Dragon Ball Z Sparking!" amounted to approximately 326,000 units. While "Dragon Ball Z Sparking!" fell short of its predecessor "Dragon Ball Z 3" in first week sales (approximately 427,000 units), the title's start was on par with that of "Dragon Ball Z 2," the title before "Dragon Ball Z 3," in first week sales (approximately 324,000 units), and there is a high probability that "Dragon Ball Z Sparking!" sales will reach half a million units. The extent to which "Dragon Ball Z Sparking!" can near the performance of its predecessor will be something to watch in the future.

Namco predicts 100.000 units (or shipped figures) for Critical Velocity...

Can't wait, can't wait... :)

Critical Velocity debuted at # 8 in the daily chart while Brain Training were at #6, so I would say first day sales ~3k :D

Can someone tell me the street price for the PS2 in Japan? (& converted to US$)

$175 and $228 respectively.
Sweet fancy Moses. Sony is fucking killing the Japanese right now. That price is offensive. No ifs, ands or buts about it. If I was Japanese, I would be pissed off that I was getting raped on pricing. That's only $25 more than what we're paying, but still. The machine's been out there 9 months longer, and sales have slowed a hell of a lot more. But it makes me wonder what will happen when they drop the price again. Are sales gonna skyrocket even with the PS3 looming large on the horizon? Or are Japanese gamers gonna just say, "fuck it"? PEACE.

EVERYTHING costs more in Japan, I don't think they even notice. :p

They don't have to buy the PS2, they have the choice of buying one of the other consoles with a great software lineup. Oh wait....

Well there's that but also there's a certain portable with a great software line up that people are buying instead.

But this week was pretty poor for new releases although it's good to see a game hit over 300K in launch week. Seems the Brain Training games are finally slowing down, dunno if the announcement of Brain Training 2 had any effect on them. DS edged down a bit, but the psp itself had a good week with sales somehow holding steady, although a pretty sparse release list doesn't bode too well for it(and no, the Brain Training knock off by Sega ain't gonna do shit). GBM is also still heading down, however the fact that GBA sales seem to have been unaffected by it suggest Nintendo have done a pretty good job in attracting a new market with the GBM.

However the real story is that of 2 big software releases of last month. Winning Eleven is now limping along towards 200K and may not even reach that. It's still got a little ways to go before it catches up with even ToE which is at around 174K. On the other hand Tamagotchi has blown past Kirby to sit at no8 in the all time DS list. Pokemon Dash is next on the list for it to take down. The real significance isn't just that a 3rd party DS game has really grown legs, which it has, but that it now sit's just 1K off Dynasty Warriors psp and 7K off Ridge Racers. In other words next week it becomes the number one 3rd party game between the DS and psp. Well done NaNa On Sha.
