Publisher Private Division and developer Star Theory announced Kerbal Space Program 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC during the Gamescom 2019 Opening Night Live show. It will launch in 2020.

Here is an overview of the game, via its official website:
About

Kerbal Space Program 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed space flight simulation game Kerbal Space Program from Star Theory and Private Division.

With the original Kerbal Space Program having become one of the most beloved games of all time and now bigger than ever, Kerbal Space Program 2 has been fully redesigned from the ground up to meet the demands of modern and next-generation space exploration, all while maintaining the monumental foundations of the first game. Build a space program, construct powerful spacecraft, design resource-gathering colonies, and much more to uncover the secrets of the galaxy. A plethora of exciting new features will captivate veteran and returning players, as well as usher in a whole new wave of Kerbonauts to the ingenious and comedic world that has entertained millions of players.

Key Features

  • Improved OnboardingKerbal Space Program 2 will create a whole new generation of space flight experts who will find themselves accidentally learning rocket science. New animated tutorials, improved UI, and fully revamped assembly and flight instructions allow both experienced and novice players to quickly put their creativity to the test without sacrificing any of the challenge from the original game.
  • Next Generation Technology – In Kerbal Space Program 2, the astoundingly inventive creations that KSP is known for will be taken to a whole new level. Players will be delighted and challenged by next-generation engines, parts, fuel, and much more. This new tech will not just create novel puzzles for players to solve, but will also enable new feats of space exploration within and beyond the original Kerbolar System.
  • Colonies – Brand new to Kerbal Space Program 2 are colonies.. These colonies not only pose their own physics challenges, but also require resource gathering to build structures, space stations, habitations, and unique fuel types. Eventually, these colonies become advanced enough for vehicle construction, propelling deep space and beyond.
  • Interstellar Travel – Next-gen tech, colonies, and systematic resource gathering all lead to a whole new level of exploration: interstellar travel. In Kerbal Space Program 2, these interstellar technologies pave the way to a host of new celestial bodies, each comprising new challenges and harboring new secret treasures. Among them: Ovin, a ringed super-Earth with relentless gravity; Rask and Rusk, a binary pair locked in a dance of death; and many more to reward exploration.
  • Multiplayer/Modding – The technological developments made to the foundations of Kerbal Space Program 2 will build on the beloved modding capabilities of the original game, as well as deliver on the long-requested addition of multiplayer. Soon players will be able to share the challenges of deep space exploration. More details on these features will be revealed at a later time.

GAF, sell me on this game please.

If you have an interest in real-life space exploration and want to understand more about the challenges that this presents then this is the game for you. Space travel is all about orbits, everything is in orbit around something, you can't just point your craft at an object and fire up the thrusters to get there, sometimes you have to do a long burn with the object you want to reach in the rear view mirror. If you want to understand why and how this works then get KSP. If you want to design, build, plan objectives and then fly your own ridiculously over-complex and fragile ships on missions with the only reward being the sense of accomplishment then this is the game for you. If you don't mind a mission failure (often spectacular and hilarious) due to some small and silly split-second mistake after literally days/weeks of long, calculated planning and flying then you will love KSP. If this hasn't sold you on the game then maybe it's not for you.

Kidding, instant buy.

It is challenging, it is fun, and you learn a lot. Similar level of satisfaction in comparison to... Bloodborne, for me at least haha.

You build rockets from predesigned parts, and send them to orbit of your planet and further. Of course you land on other planets and try to return as well. You need to plan your missions (thrust, delta V, fuel level, electricity etc) to reach your goals. Just like in real life, with some simplifications of course - but generally it is like "simulator of space agency and its missions".

You may want to keep your astronauts safe, though rescue missions are fun .

Oh, you also build planes / space planes / space stations / landers / moon / planet bases - anything space related really.

There is a lot of mods improving or changing the game, some are must have.

The game ruins movies such as Gravity, though. Because it generally follows physics, and the movies don't.

And that's about part 1, cant wait to see how the second one will look.

It's not being made by Squad who are continuing to develop "version 1", so I would wait and see if star theory manage to royally fuck it up before buying it let alone pre-ordering it blind.

If only was less silly.......
Nah, that's part of the charm! If my Kerbals build a ship with solar panels and "they" forget to deploy them before the batteries run out during a long orbital transfer, it's a silly mistake (and an easy one to make!) that fits in well with the style of the game. The Kerbals are a race of creatures that cobble things together with gaffer tape and set off into the dark unknown on a wing and a prayer!

Yeah i know that Is the special thing of the game, but i think Is most accurate with physics and could fit more in a game like Flight simulator but in space

Yeah it's surprising that KSP is on it's own in what it does. Sure we have had plenty of games that simulate aspects of space travel to varying degrees of realism but when it comes to a game where you build up your own space rockets and set off to explore a simulated solar system its out there on its own. KSP does an amazing job of it as well considering there was nothing really for Squad to get much inspiration from, they nailed it first try. I thought that since KSPs success we would have seen a load other games coming through in the same vein but it seems not.

This sounds pretty awesome. I've never got into simulation type games because they take quite a bit of effort to get rid into but I'll play the first one when I can.

Sold.

We have a nice OT here, by the way. Some people posted nice pictures of their missions, go and have a look.

E: not sure this is correct one...

Gravity got under my skin the first time i watched it, everything was so pretty (suits, machines, etc) but then the physics where super dumb and crucial in plot points. I hate that movie.

Recently I jlhave seen Life (I think this was the title), a space ship
on route back to earth from orbit crashed into some debris and... It changed his course and made him escape orbit. Bumping into things speeds you up and gives you extra delta v you know.

You should get on well with KSP then, the solar system is a deep simulation but the controls of the rockets are fairly straight forward (especially at the start of a career) and it introduces more features as you upgrade your space centre.

edit: First time you play, start a new career rather than going into the sandbox or trying any scenarios.

Can't help but be concerned that this is being handled by a completely different developer.

Hopefully it turns out as fantastic as the sequel to KSP deserves to ❤

Anyone know why Squad isn't handling the sequel?
