Playing my PS3 collection in 1080p/60fps on PC is an amazing experience

Chances are Sony would ban you if you logged into PSN via RPCS3 (not sure if it supports it, most likely not).

Getting trophies is the only reason to use a PS3 these days... even in terms of power consumption a modern PC (5-7nm) is more efficient than PS3 Slim (40-45nm tech).

Yeah that's my point, hard to go for the platinum of Drakengard at 5fps 😭

Sorry for the naive question, if I own a PS3 and own the physical (or digital) version of a game, is it ok for me to download and play those games using an emulator or that is still a grey legal area?

Would I get into trouble for doing so ?

The compatibility list is still too low for me though. So many games have bugs of all sort. Same for Xenia. About 70% are at playable state from start to finish. It includes audio visual bugs of all kind it's annoying.

It's cool to have crisp graphics, but then you got to get used to the inauthentic feeling of having most of og ps3 features cut off.

Edit: I've been using emulators a lot for the last 2 years. And I still prefer buying authentic and playing on real console. It's absolutely awesome to have the option though, the emulators developers do fantastic work!

Ahh man that sucks, kinda a deal breaker for me. Even the PS2 emulator has issues. So far the the best PlayStation emulator I've tried was the one for PSP, legitimately the best way to play those games and the library is absolutely stacked. Crazy that many of those games and along with Vita are prettyuch lost to that hardware unless you use emulation.

Well it's still worth a try. Many work flawlessly! But sometime it's frustrating when the ONE title you wanted to play really bad turns up being a buggy mess.

Ps2 is very good and yes PPSSPP is awesome I love it too.

My favorite emulator is dolphin! Plays every gc and wii games like a charm it's so fun tbh. I use a 3rd party wii bar sensor bought on Amazon. Plugged to the laptop.

PCSX2's emulation, at this point, is very, very good. There are very few games with noticeable problems.

Duckstation is similar. There are certainly edge cases, but in 99% of cases, games play better than on physical, vintage hardware - and with achievements.

RPC3 is a bit different, because of the complexities of PS3 emulation. But, there's something that people should keep in mind with it - just because RPC3 or the compatibility list describes your game as 'ingame' instead of 'playable' isn't necessarily an indication of the actual state of the emulation. Case in point, I just booted Ridge Racer 7, which was set to 'ingame' in 2021. The game runs flawlessly, I just completed an arcade circuit with no visible glitches. Perhaps there was something slightly off, but to me, it was so imperceptible that I didn't even see it. So, just keep that in mind - the compatibility list is an importance resource, but it isn't always a definitive map of what's working and what isn't.

EDIT: RR #

Ridge Racer 6 was on the Xbox 360, Ridge Racer 7 was for the PlayStation 3. Furthermore, Ridge Racer 7 runs on the original PS3 emulation, although not entirely without errors. However, with some patches, it runs quite smoothly. You can see this well documented on YouTube.

You are right, it is Ridge Racer 7. It runs great.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Sleeping Dogs and the Arkham-games got remasters on PS4, thus making them playable on PS5 through BC. Sleeping Dogs is 1080p at 60fps but the Arkham-games are capped at 30, which is a very weird decision to make. On PC they run at 60 with no issues. They look way better too, especially City. Honestly, the Return to Arkham collection is pretty shitty all around.

Fyi sleeping dogs is 1080p/30 on PS5, the Xbox version does the system level FPS Boost to 60fps.

That reminds me, you can play PS360 era games on Xbox via backward compatibility. I bought Asura’s Wrath on Xbox Series S, I should go play it one day

When you do, make sure to get the DLC episodes as well, they're often on sale.

This was the dark time when studios were putting out the real endings to the games as DLC packs.

Hope y’all truly appreciate how insane RPCS3 is.

PS3 is one of the wildest consoles architecturally and basically a bunch of nerds reverse engineered it and figured out how to emulate it for funsies in their spare time.

Playing PS3 Demon's Souls @ 4k/60 fps on my PC is incredible. And that's basically what I use emulators for, games that aren't available expect through outdated hardware. The thing that bugs me the most is that this shit could easily run on the PS5 and PS5 Pro, so the fact that Sony ignores their PS3 library really sucks.

I still have my PS3, but I have used rpcs3 for games that do not run well on the orginal PS3. Playing The Darkness, which never got a PC port, at a locked 60fps is great.

Trying to play old games on consoles without modern port is just a mess. You really have to have the original working hardware and tinker with adapters and whats-not to make them work on modern TVs. The games are hard to find too and if you do, they often have expensive pricetag.

Like Way of the Samurai 4 cost US$56 on Play-Asia for PS3, but US$25 on Steam.

I think that you should have a HDTV for PS3 era games, 4K tellys don't do justice to them. Same with CRT and Wii, PS2 etc.
