Kojima: Do you think of him differently after Metal Gear Solid 5 ? (NO SPOILERS)

I`m more excited than ever to see what he can do now that he`s free of metal gear. I`m sure konami will hire him as a consultant of some sort on the next game though.

I'm kind of disappointed in him as the game is a bit of a let down after a strong start (first 20 hours or so I thought it was phenomenal). Konami are at fault for any number of things but he's the man in charge and he can't deliver on time and on budget and that's what fucked this game up ultimately.

This is all conjecture like everyone else but it's how I can most likely imagine it having gone down. He's not blameless.

Nobody can take away the fact that he is indeed talented and a creative genius - he is, however a hack that liberally and literally "borrows" themes and ideas from other sources and combines them to make his own thing.

So like every writer ever?* Look I'm no fan of his writing, the man couldn't know plot structure or a believable character arc if it was ridding on top of a metal gear shouting "here I am!" at him, but this? This is a horrible compliant

*Look into the history of old Shakespeare's play for a great start. From there you can move onto more modern stuff like how "The Old Man and The Sea" draws heavy on Jesus and his rebirth then we get to the fun stuff like Joyce!

I've been thinking of him differently since mgs4
Same. With the exception of Rising, I don't think I've been able to recommend a Metal Gear game in quite a while. MGSV is disappointing, but mostly expected. Reasonably well made, but just not what I was looking for. It's hard to objectively say if his games changed, or if I did, but I'm thankful for the few games I do enjoy.

I just wish he got picked up by Sony.

But something tells me he is gonna get into making movies or something.

he's a cool dude with great taste in music, that hasn't changed. :)

after mgs4 he had a lot to make up for, and for the most part he did it. absolutely adore v despite it's weird fragmented narrative and terrible side ops, but i guess you can't call yourself an auteur if you don't piss off huge portions of your fanbase from time to time. :p

Yes, after playing MGS5 (without V for Victory o Venom, there's no victory)

i think he's only a troll guy.

part of 80million of dollars thrown in toilet.

No. He's a very good director. But I always knew his over ambition would catch up to him one day. Having said that I look forward to his next game.

My opinion of him stayed relatively the same which is mostly a positive opinion. Even though the game itself has pacing that doesn't lend itself well to linear storytelling, and prioritizes justifying the introduction game mechanics first, I don't think MGSV gets enough credit for what it did do well.

I didn't finish MGSV, I'll probably give it another go some point down the road but this is a big disappointment for me. I never played Peace Walkers but everything else he's done I've really liked and MGS3 is one of my favorites. He's such an innovative game designer, I mean as far as I know he invented the stealth genre.

I still remember some of the awesome touches from the original Metal Gear Solid back in 1998. You had to be careful where you walked outside in the snow because guards could track your footprints. It was possible to pick up a cold if you were outside too long and your cough would alert guards to your presence. There was a part in the game, after you were imprisoned, you could fake your death in front of the guards using ketchup. Kojima continued to innovate with his Metal Gear games in similar ways.

lost a ton of respect for him (and konami) for releasing an unfinished game. and for his writing and story being rambling, convoluted tripe. it was getting worse and worse with every MGS release but at least they FELT like MGS. MGSV is a narrative mess and manages to not even feel like an MGS game either. it has been my biggest disappointment of 2015 by far.

shouldn't have been open world
shouldn't have hired keifer
shouldn't have reduced the cinematics
shouldn't have had mother base
shouldn't have had microtransactions
shouldn't be called MGS

I focus on the positives. MGS5's gameplay is fantastic, and it will be remembered for that alone for a long time. Story wise it's not his best. I don't have an informed answer to who is responsible for X or Y, so I can't make a judgement on Kojima, so essentially my answer remains the same: he is the man (or face the represents the team) that brought me quite possibly the best series of games I ever played.

Konami seem to be doing the microtransaction awfulness, but I simply won't participate in that. Same with MGO if it's infested with prompts to purchase.

Feel like my view on him has taken a hit to be honest. MGSV was a huge let down and no fit way for the franchise to go out from him. Game mechanics were solid, everything else was a shitshow.

It's not just on Konami, Kojima too dropped the ball.

Genius game designer who's in love with how his name looks. Oh and uh.... I also can't help but see him as a juvenile minded pervert too, but I can forgive that as my step dad's kind of the same way and I love the shit out of him; so I guess I still love Kojima too :)

Honestly yea. The bullshit F2P-esque timers and requiring people to do copy pasted side missions is fucked. The gameplay is good but I feel most other things in the game are just dumb. I don't even care how dumb the story is, it's always been stupid in this series.

If Kojima worked at a studio that knew how to make great open world games (like R* for example) I feel this game would have turned out perfect. He needs someone or a team to tame some of his wacky ideas. And I'm sure the tension between him and Konami didn't help either.

He made the same mistakes as he did with MGS4 (maybe worse) MGS5 is by far the worst MetalGear game I have played. The lack of story is my biggest complaint and the fact that Snake has very lil to say!

This game is a joke! Ohh but the gameplay is great!

I may think better of him now that I can see that he has made anyone who said "I can't wait for the quiet cosplay" ashamed of their words and deeds

Before I thought of him as a director with an undeniable touch who made medioce-semi competent games with laughably bad stories; now, he's made an incredible game with a laughable bad story that's a lot less intrusive, so, yes, I definitely think much more highly of him now.
