She was the producer of Gears of War 1 and 2. And also worked on Crimson Skies. She's based. She seems kinda based and speaks common sense.
Is Avowed going to flop?
probably. Will it do better than Indy on Steam is what I’m curious to know.Is Avowed going to flop?
I almost wonder if it's a strategy. The tl;dr of the video is to not respond to social media and let the game speak for itself.
I've said it before in another thread and will repeat here, game devs need social media training and the first lesson is the art of not posting.
It's frustration, but at outside factors. Otherwise there is not much strategy to stupidity. Acting out emotionally never works on social media because too many people online are too quick to judge. Silence + Showcasing is the better combination in the creative field.I almost wonder if it's a strategy.
Internally, they know how their game is going to perform better than anyone outside the studio. If they're feeling frustration, or if they feel like they're cooking up a goose egg, then you go to social media to throw your hail mary. Quiet confidence is earned.
I think so, unless it gets an 87 or higher on metacritic. Even then I'd manage expectations. Avowed dude stuck to the woke stuff like no other on social, so it's gonna be a thing. Is Avowed going to flop?

The reason certain creators have a mystique about them, like Miyamoto and Kojima, is because they don't spend their time talking to people online often, if at all.
Even taking Japan away from this equation, notice how a company like iD software does things. Marty will come out and talk about some of the cool shit they want to show people at a random Xbox showcase, then leave everyone with that small, exciting hint, and you won't hear much from him until that new Doom game nears release.
Notice how the BG3 guys were just beginning to annoy people online with the 'holier than thou' walls of text about how other businesses should be run. The moment they announced they started working on a new game, people liked that news more.
There's an ebb and flow to all of this that some devs lack.
It's not just LA devs either, as much as people want to complain about just them alone. For example, no one wants to hear from Keiji Inafune and Hideki Kamiya is also a controversial figure. People would rather just play a new game from Kamiya than see his words.
But that won't get developers social media likes. The tl;dr of the video is to not respond to social media and let the game speak for itself.
How much more harmful are the consequences of anger and grief than the circumstances that aroused them in us!
If you made good games, I would be busy playing them.
Humility is a lost virtue, sadly.Basically, put your ego to one side. Modern devs hearing that
Maybe this deserves its on thread, but Avowed's Steam page turned off the community hub.
It's obviously narrative/damage control, but the fire will only burn brighter.
Not really actually. It would be proper for a fantasy game if it didn’t exist in the real world. The irony of Musk being mad of pronouns in a fantasy, man it's literally where they will ever make sense, if even then.
Yea, but the fantasy is made up by a modern mind so idk. Maybe Tolkien would have put pronouns in LOTR if he was writing it today lol. I think nu pronouns are ridiculous and absurd nonetheless, but as we all can see, studios making games are filled by these morons. Not really actually. It would be proper for a fantasy game if it didn’t exist in the real world.
They took wording specifically created in modern times to be used in the real world and put it into fantasy game. I don’t always agree with Musk, but he is super right on this.
