I have a question and I didn't think a new thread would be ok with the mods.

My queastion is is it normal for PS4 games to have a grainy look to them? Like when the game is in motion this effect is in play but when the onscreen action is not in motion you don't see it?

Callisto is on another level...

The Balanced Mode continues to most impressive feature of the Pro. My favorite after HZDR. It processes the visuals at high frame rate without compromising visual details of base quality mode. I also really liked the use of RT in general.

But I have to take a break from this beauty as there is a lot of stuff to test.

What kind of RT is it?

Give me something, Saber. My Pro arrives tomorrow. A date, a promise, a vague declaration of intentions… I’ll take anything!

Some might find this interesting/amusing: So my 8k Tv doesn't support the 8k output form the PS5. Simply due to the PS5 needing to use DSC to get around its 32Gbps bandwidth limitation. My understanding is that there is only one TV which does the required DSC by Sony (Z9K). So not only is the 8k limited to 8k TV's obviously, but then its limited to only ONE 8k TV. Gotta laugh.

Tbh I personally never had any intention of using it for 8k gaming content as it limits my panels luminance. It would have been a novelty distraction at best. But it does shine light on the head scratching 8k elements of the Pro. And with these 8k patches, people should be aware, that just buying an 8k TV, doesn't necessarily mean you will be viewing the PS5 in 8k.

Why they did not put in a 48gbps HDMI chip is beyond me. They could have unlocked 4K @ 144hz as well.

Looks like old version SDK may be the issue on some Unreal games.

This confirms a rumor by MLID from two months ago:

*PSSR just got an update from v9.0 to 9.4 (it had image quality issues) and uses 250MB of RAM"

So devs still working in games engines with an outdated version of the PS SDK will get the worse version of PSSR. They'll have to upgrade to a newer SDK (and hope that nothing breaks) if they can. UE4 devs seem to be stuck with the bad PSSR version for the moment.

Unless I’m mistaken this doesn’t explain The Callisto Protocol (UE4) absolutely shitting all over Silent Hill 2 (UE5)
What a ridiculous waste of resources ...we could've had RT gi + shadows + reflections at 30 fps instead
How about 4K/60fps with RT shadows and reflections? That’s Callisto’s new performance mode.

According to a response from SIE support, the HW is 48Gbps compliant, and they are intentionally limiting it to 32Gbps.
If you want to confirm this, please email SIE.
That was my understanding too. It wouldn't surprise me to find its simply an OS/function alignment with base PS5 reasoning.

GT7 is now showing as enhanced on the PS app, has anyone tried it since this mornings update? I’m in work so can’t give it a try until this evening.

Tried it just now in resolution mode. Resolution mode is 4K with RT and PSSR.
Not that impressed to be honest. RT is nice and you can see it while driving but the image quality seems worse than before (althought it's been a while since I played it so my memory may be wrong). A lot of jaggies and flickering to my eyes... Just an unstable image look.
Have not tried PSVR2 yet, that seems to be a solid update according to the internet.

Typical Sony communication why would they not have mentioned it’s also the pro update during during yesterdays update posts 🤣, is Ray Tracing enabled with 120hz turned on and resolution mode?

Don't know, I only have a 60hz tv.

These are the patch notes:

- Support for the PlayStation®5 Pro has been enhanced, with the following additions:
・We added a mode that combines higher Image quality and frame rate performance by fully utilizing the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for PlayStation®5 Pro.
・Ray-traced reflections have been introduced during races, with the option available by selecting "Prioritize Ray Tracing/Resolution" in the Display settings:
  ・8K resolution compatibility.
・Enhanced rendering quality in VR Mode.
・Smoother video playback in VR Mode, achieved through the VR Positional Reprojection function.

Those who never had the chance to play it before, don't sleep on Kena: Bridge of Spirits. It's a beautiful game, and has dynamic resolution on Performance Mode so it's crispy clear and solid 60 FPS on Pro. It also has some Christmas-themed content, so it's perfect to play during the holidays.

I'm also playing Observer: System Redux, it has dynamic resolution and ray tracing. Beautifully weird game, probably the best Bloober game pre-Silent Hill 2, and why not playing it since Silent Hill 2 is still shit on Pro even after the latest patch. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Silent hill got patched this week. Was it for the Pro fix? The weird shimmering crap in performance mode is definitely gone (unless it was never an issue after Brookhaven hospital...)

How is Rise of the Ronin running on Pro? Is the updaye worth it?

Then you’ll have to take my word as the number one fan of that game: it’s Pro enhanced.

But! Quality mode is performing in my opinion worse. They bumped up the resolution in both modes and the performance mode is now the way to go. Quality unlocked is much closer to 30 fps when before it was around 40 I would say. You can lock the frame rate anyway.

Performance mode is looking pretty good with minor drops.

Monster Hunter Wilds will be the first AAA game to come out with a Pro patch out of the gate, right? So far, every other game has been retrofitted with a patch.

Is there really no other major release until February?
Pretty dry for PS. Xbox just had STALKER and will have Indiana Jones in December.

Marvel Rivals is getting a full release on December 6th. Otherwise, it seems the biggest games will be Kingdom Come Deliverance on Feb 11th, AC Shadows on Feb 14th, and Monster Hunter Wilds on Feb 28th. Xbox is also getting Avowed in December.

Lots of games were pushed back. AC Shadows was originally slated for November but was delayed. Avowed was also pushed back by a few months.

February is stacked.

In an interview during the gameplay reveal they were still not decided how to use the extra stuff in the Pro, IIRC. The game was probably not developed with Pro enhancements in mind. That said, Capcom is one of the devs that are doing OK with their patches, isn't it?

Has anyone tried granblue fantasy relink or kena bridges of spirits on ps5 pro?
I tried relink. Doesn't have pro enhancements or dynamic res so it's identical. It's one of the games I was hoping for a pro patch, but it doesn't seem very likely at this point as they've stopped updating it. Who knows though.

Sony are the masters of underhype when it comes to their tech.
To translate this for people that have been brainwashed by PR term-abuse - Carmack/Oculus coined this 'Asynchronous SpaceWarp' - ie. tech that adds spatial reprojection to VR generated frames.
Or to put it into a completely different context - in normal games this is Frame-Generation with Extrapolation. Basically imagine 'DLSS3 that actually improves latency'.

But the fact that they're just stealth-dropping this into PSVR2. Possibly it's a Pro only feature, maybe using AI - but that could still warrant someone talk more about it - Mark what are you doing?
