Its an old and generic joke, but knives actually have a practical purpose in life. With guns, people either use them for fun/sport or for killing. Whats funny are people who have guns just for these reasons, yet still go on about the 2nd Amendment. The percentage of people who own guns just in case they need to use it to defend against an oppressive and brutal government are absolutely miniscule. This amendment is just an easy teacher's pass for gun owners justifying their ownership of such a deadly weapon.

I know its GAF and its normal to joke about any and everything, but when you are personally affected by guns like I have, it really stops being funny at a certain point.

But you have to admit it'd be amusing to see them try.

Yay for vigilantism! Movies have taught me that taking the law into ones own hands is perfectly acceptable.

Is this a real post? The gentleman with the CC permit was able to stop that crazy man who had already stabbed 2 people, and did so WITHOUT harming anybody, and waiting for the authorities to arrive. Either you literally did not read the story, or you did not comprehend it.

Ok i'll roll with your statistics

So you are arguing that you do not want to reduce the amount of Gun related deaths by 10%?

trollface

On a serious note, You and many other proponents of Gun laws believe that a responsible CCW holder is less of a threat to society.

The issues i have with that view is that:
1. there are something like 35000 gun related deaths (much more injuries) every year in the US. And you said that 10% of those are likely to be CCW holders. I think 10% of 35000 is still a huge number

2. Guns that are legally owned are stolen EVERYDAY by REAL criminals. Who DO have no qualms about pulling the trigger. So while a CCW holder may have not committed a crime, They HAVE PROVIDED a gun to a criminal to be used in crimes in the future (Unless you think criminals just steal guns so they can go hunting with them)

Wait what? 10%?... no my stats are on a per capita basis. In Texas 0.15% of crime is commited by CHL holders while they are approximately 1.6 percent of the population...

I understand you're probably willfully ignoring stats just to troll but eh.

Instead of arming ourselves to the teeth, how's about we make a decent society that doesn't drive people to anti-social criminal behavior and/or that affords them the mental health care they need, eh?

If you want to be a CC advocate, you should also be an active proponent of a large welfare state and reducing income inequality, i.e., you must support effective crime reduction measures. Otherwise the fear of violent crime and need to arm yourself rings hollow and gives the appearance of just being in it for the wild-west killing. In which case, I don't know that I'd consider you any better than the people you're arming yourself against. And probably worse, truth be told. At least those people are typically economically deprived and frequently suffering from untreated mental health problems.

You're making the assumption that vastly increasing the size of the welfare state is the best solution to our problems of income inequality. I would contend that institutionalized racism leading to the highest number of prisoners in the entire world has far more to do with exacerbating issues of income inequality, education, and the disenfranchisement of huge portions of our society. What good is it to expand the welfare state so much more when we haven't addressed the root of the problem? It's one thing to help a man out of a hole. It's another to dig the hole, throw him in, ignore him, then tax everyone to make ladders, while continuing to dig holes and throw people in them.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
Or placed another way, there would be less illegal guns used in crimes if there were no guns to be stolen.

At some point, the answer is just, "Too bad."

There are never NOT going to be guns in the United States. Ever. There's not really any point to even arguing about it. There is exactly one legal way to get rid of all guns, and it is so unlikely to pass in our lifetimes that it is not even worth talking about. If you think that 2/3 of the U.S. House and Senate, followed by 3/4 of all state legislatures, are going to come together and agree to get rid of anything in the Bill of Rights, you are fooling yourself.

Its about time this happens and gets some attention. This is such a textbook example of why people with permits should be allowed to carry guns.
