I like this. It reminds me of Kamichu, except funnier and with more yuri. Kinda wish a better group had worked on it, since the translation's pretty rough at times. Will finish up the rest of the released chapters tomorrow.

Edit: dsgfshdjfjhsdk turns out it's getting an anime. Now I'll probably stop reading it and wait for that.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Toriko

I'm starting to understand why Komatsu is only ranked 88th despite being an insanely good chef. He lacks the physical strength of the top ranking chefs, these guys could probably also be hunters along with being chefs.

Fighting Zaus though, I can sense the tournament will get interrupted by Gourmet Corp. since Komatsu won't stand a chance.

Oh wow this is so unbelievably trashy compared to the anime. They basically turned it into a really raunchy yuri manga. lol.

One of the MU reviews:

The art is mind-bendingly good! So good it doesn't even make sense!

I feel like it's even better than to-love-ru, and from me that's saying something. And to top it off the setting seems good and the plot is easy to understand! A sure ten from me.

Doesn't get anymore damning than that.

Bunch of morons.

Ok let's place bets on the new girl's powers!

2points = Super-strength
3points =

Ok fuck it, she's going to have super-strength.

No it isn't. That happens all the time. Regardless of what Forever Alone/Dating GAF told you about women and "friendzoning," that isn't true at all.

With that kind of logic you'd be happy as hell going into a buddy cop movie and seeing the main characters get shot and killed 30 minutes in and the movie ending because "that happens all the time". Of course that shit happens in real life but this is a manga/comic/story. Even if this manga is "based on a true story", it's still a story and should have a proper ending that's satisfying to most of it's audience.

I'd like to think that cooking ability wise, Komatsu very much belongs in the upper tiers of the ratings.

Komatsu is mainly ranked lower because he's essentially building his own brand. Obviously being with Toriko helps him procure ingredients a guy with his ranking usually wouldnt. But he's at a 5 star restaurant (now 6) and he's pretty much going to end up turning it into a 10 star slowly. His career is still starting.

But yeah the tournament's getting interrupted.

I don't really follow. How is it not a proper ending? People get the girl all the time in both fiction and real life; in fiction, probably more often than not. Obviously if it does happen, its not like they are going to just hook up in the next chapter.

What. That's not what most of us want with this manga. I love that it isn't following the usual tropes at the moment. If I wanted something like that I would read the countless other romance based mangas that's readily available.

Foxes are cool. Fox gods are cool. Cute girl protagonists are cool. So far, this manga is pretty cool.
Picking up strong yuri vibes from the childhood friend...

I am so sick an appalled that I'll have to read this sick filth for myself.

As yuri smut, it's not bad.

Angry Grimace

The other problem is that there isn't really enough time to not make the ending depressing and develop a relationship with the other characters. Miss Understanding has virtually no personality beyond having an issue with men stalking her and Loli got rejected already.

Yamada

I find the new guy annoying because he doesn't really fill any particular niche that isn't already filled by Itou or Miyamoto.

Also, I wish Yoshikawa knew how to draw more than 2 different girls with different haircuts.

When are we gonna get the 2012 MangaGAF awards?

Obviously imma win Poster of the Year, but we've still got an open field for such crucial fields as MangaGAF Waifu of the Year, Smut of the Year, Pointless Argument of the Year, etc.

Good point, he's still young too. He doesn't have the years of experience as the top-tier chefs do.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I CALLED IT

I laughed at the part "this did not happen at all". I lose it when those happen.

When he really told her, I could totally see Kansai was thinking it over. She considered it playful and that Molester secretly was still into Miss Undie because she kept poking him at it over the phone often (and she thought he thought she was his big sister, remember?).

She REALLY had no idea, or was playing extremely dumb. When Molester came out with it, she was shocked. First, shocked, then mad because he did that to Loli still (women don't give a fuck, even if you profess your undying love to them they will not forgive what you did to one of their female friends), then indifferent.

If Kansai loves Molester back at all (which I seriously doubt), she'll contact him later and tell him to apologize to Loli. But I really don't see that happening.

I think the next chapter is going to be a lot of back and forth texting. I love those parts.

That's exactly what I've been arguing against the past couple of posts. The "Kansai ending" WOULD be the usual romance trope at this point, aka "fantasy". As you said, this manga is refreshing because it is trying to present a romance story in a more "believable" fashion because it's "based on a true story".

Going off of my response to echothreealpha, if the Kansai happens now, as is, it will be an "ending" but it won't be proper/satisfactory IMO because of how this manga presented itself and how it's progressed so far. It may as well be Nisekoi or one of the other countless shounen romance/harem mangas that try to present "real relationships" in the most unbelievable way possible.

Of course as I acknowledged already, there's still 6 chapters for things to change. Maybe Kansai will reject him and change her mind by the end of it? I'm just saying if they start hooking up next chapter or two (yes that's actually what I was alluding to because that's the type of BS that happens in most manga romances) it will be a piss poor ending, regardless of how true to life it is.

Maybe he goes an archaeological dig for a few chapters and the other characters show up and tell him to go get her.

The basis of your entire argument rests on the notion that Molester Man hooking up with Kansai would be "unbelievable" yeah?

I don't see any reason why, if in the end him and Kansai do end up together, it would be unbelievable. Both of them has a good relationship, comfortable with each other, and pretty chummy too with one another. From the way I see it there's nothing "unrealistic" if they do hook up in the end.

It's not a case like.... Naruto suddenly fell in love with Tenten or something.

Nanaki is probably my second or third favorite, if he wouldn't fall asleep at the most awkward times (middle of lecture, middle of staircase) but has good personality. Bird history lesson is always so short lived and in the four panel strip part, so technical with the bird science.

What? Kitazaki smut is best smut. There's actually a story and it works the smut in!

Caught up with these week's Naruto and dammit Kishi, what a bad time to do that. Should've used him more in the story. Then again, he's probably gonna use the resurrection card again.

That was a rather unassuming ending.
I didn't realise Koharu was in middle school already - and the parents are only just being introduced to Katagiri?

Nice to see cameo characters like Anna making a last appearance. Would like to have seen the washer lady as well.

I wish there was more. It's good though, lived up to the promise it held (unlike a certain, more popular series about girls who fall in love with their guardians... bleeargh)

Sahara Mizu should do more of this kind of work. It suits her style and plays to her strengths.

They don't effectively use any of the powers other than Shiraishi's mostly because Shiraishi already won.

You know, i really do like the characters and crazy battles, but I can,t get over how dumb the art style is. In a good way. Every time I see someone do a crazy pose I just laugh.

Cool to see JoJo getting stronger and stronger though.

She is best girl after all.

I'm still a little sad that the other witches basically don't do anything after their respective arcs. Future sight girl would've been a good rival for at least one more arc.

TV Tropes: Reality is Unrealistic

Guys get together with girls they like all the time in real life.

That's not even the right trope for what I'm talking about. I'm not arguing about whether or not a guy like Molester Man could date a girl like Kansai in real life. I'm arguing about Molester Man getting Kansai in the context to this "story" being believable or not. Focus less on "Why couldn't Molester Man get with Kansai?" and focus more on "What has this manga shown us so far in the past 14 chapters to make Molester Man not desirable romantically from Kansai's perspective and what has Molester Man done so far to change that from Kansai's perspective?".

The basis of your entire argument rests on the notion that Molester Man hooking up with Kansai would be "unbelievable" yeah?

This is enough for them being good friends, but not enough for Kansai to "suddenly" develop a romantic interests in the context to the story presented. The "sudden" development of romantic feelings for Molester Man by the end of this manga is currently the "unbelievable/unrealistic" part (again I know I'm ignoring 6 chapters worth of development here).

And in your Naruto example, replace Tenten with Sakura and have Sakura falling in love with Naruto instead. That's a better comparison to what I'm talking about if you want to go that route.

Honestly I don't even know why Loli Boobs likes Molester Man.

Kansai getting together with him is much more plausible at this point. They get along well enough that all it takes is for Molester Man to ask and Kansai to yes. Sometimes romance can be simple.

Is Yawara! a worthwhile read?
With having only 1 volume left of Happy! and seeing how I've re-evaluated Urasawa a bit (though that's still mostly dependant on how Happy! actually ends) I'm wondering if I should give another manga with a girl protagonist (and sport) from him a chance or not.

But yeah the tournament's getting interrupted.

It's just weird that he's ranked so low after having pretty much revolutionized mochi medicine cooking. But I guess everyone else have done something equally or more amazing cooking wise.

Anyway, I was really looking forward to a proper cooking tournament instead of a battle tournament, but it looks like that douche organization will arrive next chapter.

Went better than expected. It's nice to have a realistic romance manga. Any other romance manga would usually have ended with Kansai mad, hitting molester and a ridiculous, unbelievable misunderstanding, even if he did the right thing.

I expected her to say no to be honest.

Anyway I wonder who he went out with in the end, I believe they wouldn't have done this manga if he ended up jerking off in his room still being single.

A LOT of people would argue that there's nothing weird at all if Sakura is actually in love with Naruto, you know, hahaha.

Anyways,

BOYS ON THE RUN

Just got to read this up to volume 6. Wow. Talk about a romantic manga where nearly all the usual tropes gets punched out and broken! Very interesting.

It's a bit jarring though considering the very different tone it took compared to I am a Hero, hahaha. But very good nonetheless--a lot of unexpected development here.

It's very... how should I say this... "plain"? Especially if you are used to his brand of craziness like Monster or 20/21st Century Boys.

Not a bad read though, although not a great one either.

You're exaggerating Molester's undesirability and besides, we don't know that much about Kansai's personality. I'm not sure what you mean anyways - are you saying he hasn't grown from a narrative perspective? Because he obviously has.

Honestly I don't even know why Loli Boobs likes Molester Man.

Kansai getting together with him is much more plausible at this point. They get along well enough that all it takes is for Molester Man to ask and Kansai to yes. Sometimes romance can be simple.
Again, I think the reports of Molester Man's undesirability are highly exaggerated. There isn't anything to suggest he's anything other than an awkward late teen with no experience with girls.

The best I can gather is that Kreed's point is that its not interesting from a narrative perspective for Kansai to just return his affection. To some extent I agree, but I'm talking about in the end sense as opposed to Chapter 15 Kansai and Molester start dating and the plot is resolved. The problem here is that Kansai and Molester literally is the entire plot. There isn't any other thread to pick up here unless Miss Understanding comes back into the picture or Molester somehow recovers from rejecting Loli flat out.
