Have to say I'm more intrigued by Marathon because it seems to address some of my gripes with Hunt Showdown
Curious what your gripes are with Hunt.

I really like Extraction style shooters and Hunt is my favourite at the moment, but I would love a more dense, action packed game myself, which seems to be what Marathon is offering. As a casual gamer who probably spends not much more then 4 hours per week playing, I just don't always feel like 'sitting in a bush' for 15 minutes straight, just to surprise the team with the bounty.
I also really like the art style and mystery around Marathon. And like mentioned before: the gunplay looks really solid. The downside is absolutely being forced to team up with 2 others, which is in my case always 2 random people, which I also do in Helldivers and Hunt, but it's kind of like a box of chocolates every time..

ARC Raiders is interesting. I don't know how much I would like the third-person perspective in a PvP shooter like this. The vibe is almost the opposite of Marathon, being a gritty realistically rendered world. I was very impressed with The Finals (also Embark Studios), so this team sure has the talent to pull something incredible off. What I find interesting is that the PvE enemies are so different from the players. Most extraction shooters you still fight the same enemies (dudes/robots with guns), but these are like spiders, big spiders, huge spiders, all types of drones and weird orbs.

Exciting times for PvP shooter fans!

My main gripes with Hunt are like a general sense of progression. I like the gameplay-loop, but when they started a new season, everything was gone. Which is part of the genre, but it would be much better for me personally if there was a bit more sense of progression, which they seem to provide with the factions (in Marathon).

Also, maps become a bit stale, imo. Going by all the info, Marathon will uave mechanics in play that can drastically change the maps over the course of a season, so I assume it should offer more variety.
The weather-system they supposedly got in place might help with this as well. Going by MH Wilds it could enhance the experience, maybe even add depth to the gameplay.

This also goes for the Shells. In Hunt, I see no reason to level up different hunters because afaik they only differ cosmetically.
In Marathon, different shells offer different skill-set, which are incentives to use completely different playstyles.

It just sounds like Marathon will be offering more variety and offer more incentive for me to keep playing.

But I'll have to play first. It sounds good, but so did Destiny 2 on paper.

Arc raider seems more my cup of tea but i've always been curious to try an extraction shooter and tarkov look way too hard and complicated for me, on the other hand marathon seems way too basic, and the lack of proximity chat is some fucking bullshit because that is 50% of the reason why i would try an extraction shooter to begin with.

Hopefully we get an open beta so i can try both.

They definitely omitted some info regarding the weather systems. In other interviews I heard them mentioning lightning storms where it can stun players and also rain cooling down the runners, so they can sprint for longer.

Apparently the other maps are a very different experience than Dire Marsh. One that has a lot more verticality and the other has some puzzles (?).

I missed that about the influence of the weather system.
Sounds good. Would love to learn more about it.

When I first saw Arc I thought it looked like a thrilling co-op looter shooter with a really appealing style, but then I caught wind of them pivoting to a pure extraction experience and my interest was somewhat dampened. Still, I'm keen to have a go at the final release as opposed to Marathon, which I just think looks absolutely dire.

I did not expect ARC Raiders

I know you didn't ask me but this is my cat nip so...

[Played about 10 hours of Hunt]

- Felt like 90% (maybe more?) of the game was slowly walking past stupidly underpowered AI.

- The formula of (run to clue 1, then run to clue 2, then run to boss) felt way too linear and repetitive for me.

- Map design was obsessed with keeping everyone lethal to everyone at all times. I rarely found long range sniping points that gave you good information. Every fight seemed to kick off the moment I fired at someone...a lot of games let you prep areas.

- Lack of compelling progression. I never really cared when I died because upgrades didn't have enough oomph to a new player. Vigor (almost universally regarded as a worse game) gave me significantly more heart pounding moments. I'd almost call it a Battle Royale rather than an Extraction game.

- Game rewards shooting over sandbox manipulation.

+ Best sound design in any game I've ever played.

+ I dug the aesthetic.

It felt like a game I needed to play 50 hours to hook into.

I don't agree with most of what you've stated in that post, but there's some truth to this quote.

Like a BR the outcome is fairly binary: you win or you lose. Extracting without the bounty is pretty pointless.
Normally an extraction shooter offers a whole variety of results, from losing big to winning big and everything in between.

Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes aren't cheaters extremely bad in an extraction shooter? Like worst genre ever to have cheaters on it?! (I mean except mmorpg with pvp i guess)

Like in a normal deathmatch you lose and nothing happen but in tarkov you could lose dozens of hours of grind because of chaters and on pc it seems like it's easy to find them, how did they even managed to have success with such a big thing to deal with?

Yeah, but I'm not worried about cheaters personally, especially with a big, well resourced company like Bungie. If Tarkov can create a successful product despite the cheaters it means the issue isn't scaring away the majority of players.

Then there's this...
