Marvel Rivals hits 10M players in 72 hours

Lol I downloaded this today to see what all the fuss is. Man this game Is basic as fuck.

I spent 2 minutes doing a tutorial and jumped into a quick match.

I played one game and got MVP as the punisher with 18 kills and 2 deaths .
I just held the trigger button down and mowed everyone down.

The 'fighting' moved about a little back and forth. Maybe kids who love the ip might like this but there's no fun or even half decent mechanics in this.

Game doesn't even seem balanced at all for range .

Concord vs Marvel Rivals, which one do you think is the best hero shooter of 2024?

Only one of them got an Amazon Secret Levels episode

Sheesh. Really makes you wonder how Square managed to make an Avengers game that flopped.

I remember the Avengers dev telling players that they have the option to play on Playstation if they want the Spider-Man DLC.

That was the moment I know they have signed the death warrant, because players also have the option to play other games.

Full price story based game with live service endgame, linear brawler, awful loadtimes causing bugs on last gen consoles, live service updates were sparse because of restrictions from disney, terrible anti player updates that made the game less fun to play.

Im not a superhero fan, so I'd never play the game.

But just looking at the cover art was hilarious. They didnt even have the hollywood stars licensed. So it was a bunch of generic looking people as the supes. lol. At least Hulk kinda looked like Hulk.

It's always funny how people get caught out by the bot games, just like in fortnite.

These characters existed for decades before the movies, and yes, they do indeed look like stylized versions of the comic art. Lol.

It wasn't. It had cross play from different platforms in it
I also had matches that felt strange and wondered a few times if we were in front of bots or not at first.
I think the most likely explanation is that you probably had a healer or two in your team, and you didn't notice but one of them was probably healing you non stop, and the opponent team didn't have any healer.

The healers are clearly a game changer and totally change the balance of a match.
I had a match where we were clearly winning, it almost felt like playing against bots, and then suddenly it became super hard and we were getting stomped and we lost. I wondered what happened, but it's because at the beginning of the match we had two healers in the team, and then at some point they changed heroes and we had no healer anymore, which is why we suddenly started to lose.

I think it's a problem that people can change hero in the middle of a match like this, it creates annoying situations like this.

i would love to like this. I've been playing it and i guess i'll keep playing it occasionally because all my friends play. I love the idea of heroes in a shooter but i think the game modes that hero shooters have come up with so far are just the worst. First of all their all the same. There is a point and everyone in both teams just go there and team fight in a small radius the entire match. This also results in maps being whatever to me. I havent played a map that i thought was bad or great, they're all just whatever, and i dont think it's because the maps are bad, it's just that at any given time you're just fighting in a small part of it.

Yeah we did have a healer and they were healing none stop. Regardless the game is definitely brain-dead.

Maybe it's 5 minutes of mindless fun but it's very engaging at all imo.

Marketing was bad, and every look at the gameplay was not good. They also released late. They should have come out between Infinity war and endgame and they missed the window. The Zeitgeist was gone.

No, they came out at the height of the MCU and people rejected the game because it wasn't based on the MCU.

That failure also hurt GOTG because people immediately (and to this day) thought it was just a clone of Avengers and not a great single-player game.

Thankfully 1943 shouldn't have that problem. Unless of course Black Panther 3 ends up being Denzel playing T'Chanda in WW2 with Chris Evans as Cap.
