There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter and the laughter of thirsting gods.
And Henry Cavill.

@sankt-Antonio raises a valid concern.

In 40K there are no "good guys". How are Amazon going to sell the Imperium when they're racist and borderline fascist?

Borderline? BORDERLINE??

Seriously though, there are no good sides but there are many individuals that are good and are trying to survive in this horror, the fact that they have to do some fucked up shit to do it makes it even more interesting if you ask me. Not to mention that humanity has been cornered into being genocidal maniacs because otherwise not only they wouldn't survive but they'd become prey to unspeakable horrors far worse than death

Yeah, I feel a key aspect of the WH40K universe is that humanity IS on the brink of destruction. EVERY race is a homicidal, xenophobic, expansionist threat, even without Chaos being added to the mix full of malevolent god-like beings. So the brutal tactics employed by the Imperium and especially the Inquisition is JUSTIFIED (in order to make a wargame that is 100% conflict).

As soon as you try to "both sides" the tyranids, the Eldar, the Orks, or Slaneesh you are FUCKED and there is no compromising that. Hopefully this point is driven home with a 10 ton hammer in the opening episode with a bunch of moralizing, peaceloving, "can't we all just get along?" hippy types being absolutely GUTTED by the savage alien hordes. Any planet having even a moment of peace is just because a thousand others are burning right now to stem the unending invasion.

Gonna be interesting to see what they transfer over to a show. I just can't see there being a lot of pro-Imperium "rah rah" jingoistic fervor without the show being blasted by critics that just want to impress their favorite victim class onto every bad race. And sadly, if you go back and look at early warhammer stuff, that is kinda true. But I have hopes we can move past that and just have a rocking action show that isn't afraid to show that solidarity, a healthy dose of mistrust, and most importantly, aggressive response to invasion is necessary if you want to live and thrive.

Cavill needs to make a PR spot where he is cracking egg after egg to make an omelet whilst talking about Warhammer, that is the Imperium in a nutshell I think :p

There will absolutely be that, but it’ll be correctly framed as being wrong.

40k is a satire on the worst of humanity, religion, conservatism, and intolerance. It was created by British guys who grew up under Thatcher, and - much like 2000ad - was very definitely designed to both criticise and satirise authoritarian attitudes.

This show had better reflect that aspect of the lore, otherwise it will fail completely. Frankly, if there aren’t idiots screaming woke about the depiction of ultra right wing attitudes being idiotic across the show I’ll be disappointed.

And There are good guys in 40K. Plenty of them… but they rail against the godawful Imperium Of Man. That’s the show I want.

The Salamanders are the only good guys in the whole series…

It can't be a bunch of scrappy rebels fighting back against the evil empire, it has to be much more subtle than that. If you have main characters outright denouncing the Imperium it better have direct and immediate consequences or it will go straight into the garbage bin because that betrays the true "grim darkness" of the setting.

You couldn’t do that. Any good guys would have to be anti-heroes like Eisenhorn.

If thats the case then the rebels should ultimately turn out to be pawns of chaos or alien forces and the "evil government" hunting them turns out to be correct and these rebels would have condemned a planet to destruction had their plans actually worked. For me, it should ALWAYS end in "the Emperor is right" because this is a nihilistic universe with uncaring ancient alien gods, more like Lovecraft than our petty human politics. So no matter how harsh, how unfair, how vindictive the Imperium SEEMS to be, it always turns out there WAS chaos, aliens, or just bad people causing all the trouble. There is no utopia, no happy socialist ending, no post-scarcity kumbayah gonna happen for any humans. It's death or clawing out a subsistence level existence.
