So are ratings effected by the previous weeks performance at all? If Cena goes for 6 hours next week, and the ratings go up, is there any way they could interpret that as being due to the decent show this week rather than Cena being on?

Ratings don't matter at all, because even though we can get a good laugh out of a horrible rating for a bad product, RAW always ends up at it's base 3.0 +/- 0.1 week after week, with a few outliers based on hyped shows or holiday shows.

I think wrestling ratings are one of the prime examples why Nielsen ratings probably have some major accuracy problems. I refuse to believe that the same basic amount of people have watched wrestling over the past few years and it's basement is around a 3.0, oblivious to anything that goes on. Or when it does go down, it's so erratic and random as to not make any sense why it did, and why it went back up the next week.

People need to stop caring about ratings and whether things will change. They won't. You may get a good show every now and again, but that's it. Doing anything else will just set you up for disappointment.

If ratings are low, then all that means is we need more HHH and Cena (despite the fact that Kane draws too, damn it!). Here, I'll give you guys advice. Just do what I do. Become emotionally invested in just one person (maybe two, as AJ can be the other). Just watch for their segments, and when they're done, you're done. You'll be less disappointed, and you'll save a ton of time.

Gotta say even though alot of that stuff is bad, it's more exciting than Raw.

This is pretty much my go to response for any criticism of anything.

- Ewwww Impact? Well, at least it's not Raw.

- Ugh, this coffee's horrible. Well....at least it's not Raw.

- This steak is overcooked. WELL AT LEAST IT'S NOT RAW.

I can't wait to see the latest in the Dixie/AJ saga. Last time Daniels had video of AJ taking Dixie into a hotel room. What will he have this week? A used condom he dug out of the trash can? Plus Joe Park ESQ vs Bubba is going to continue.

Every now and then = a average of one per year.

WWE is comfortably numb in it's position and John Cena is at least established as a kids star like Spoungebob or something nowadays. They have no incentive to take any risks or do anything to make lots of money. It's not like the mid 90's when they were pushing out goofy characters and had competition to push them to the extreme.

PPV numbers are worse than they've ever been, ratings are as bad as pre Attitude era, but they're a developed brand now - so they at least make a lot of merchandising and license fees, and live gate money. They won't risk that by becoming less kid friendly trying to get mainstream popular again. And even if they did try it, it's probably too late. The mark crowds nowadays don't know anything about wrestling's past. It's an awkward blur nowadays, Vince has effectively killed the ties to the past for the most part. Any "legends" brought out from behind the scenes just gets a laugh for being an old man in a costume.

You can just do what I do, passively watch while doing something else, or just skipping a show entirely not giving a fuck. I still like to root for bad news to happen, so eventually the news will become bad enough they'll be forced to change, but it's probably several, several years before this occurs. It would take Cena not being in the business for one reason or another to hit the kid base hard.

Exactly. The WWE is not going to change, people. Stop watching it so much, or just watch parts of it, or just watch for certain characters. I lost most hope after the Punk debacle. I honestly thought they could come back to prominence after that (the Punk/Cena feud was getting prime time ESPN mentions!), but they screwed that up so badly that I couldn't believe it. Hell, I actually dislike Punk now, as a result of it.

I vote for this JUNE WRASSLIN |OT| AT LEAST IT'S NOT RAW™

WWE routinely gets handed 1 to 2 angles a year that should be the catalyst for change and bring excitement back to the product, but then they fuck it up within weeks. NXT in 2010, Punk's revolution in 2011, Brock Lesnar in 2012. They are too comfortable in what they are now and they are too afraid to make any changes to the formula. Atleast with TNA everyone on the show has a storyline going on and they aren't afraid to make changes to see if something else works.

This is what kills me the most. So sad.

Heyman's non reaction and the sparse barely audible ECW chants when he returned was pretty sad, though I'm sure he would still have his reaction in the Northeast.

It really is a dead era right now. You had a definitive transition from 80's to 90's to 00's of all similar wrestlers and personalities lumped together one way or another and the same guys involved in all of it, from Hogan, to Flair, to Taker, to Austin, etc. Now there's no transition, you still have a lot of those guys just REALLY old now coming out as shells of themselves and new "stars" basically not being a part of that era at all and in the new kid-friendly traveling tour mold.

I imagine what we're feeling is probably the exact same thing wrestling fans in the 60's and 70's felt when the Hulkamania era started in the 80's. It turned from sport to spectacle, now from spectacle to a licensed kids tour. It probably close to the same exact reaction sports-wrestling fans had seeing guys like Bruno Sammartino wrestling in the 80's. It's like a foreign land.

You people must be crazy if you're thinking of denying me a Kane mention in the June title. You think you've seen a lot of Kane posts, well you haven't seen a lot, but you'll see it all through that thread, unless you give me what I want!
