Twelve Pokemon games in the top 1000. Is Pokemon as big as MH now?

You know, when you have a Mario platformer and Pokemon in your console, it's downright impossible to fail.

the "3DS = Bomba" claim suddenly turns into something silly, considering.

Yeah. With Pokemon it's hard to imagine any Nintendo handheld really failing without some serious missteps. And unlike DQ and MH, its popularity is truly universal.

That's comforting.

Pokemon is still the biggest franchise in Japan. Although, I believe the numbers for the past few entries are down quite a bit from the days of Pokemon Red/Green or Gold/Silver.

Monster Hunter Portable 3 has outsold Dragon Quest IX, which was the highest selling Dragon Quest game of all time in Japan. So I guess you could say that Monster Hunter is now bigger than Dragon Quest. At least for the moment.

Interesting, the third version of IE3 actually made it the most successful game in the series.

With that mentality PSP has its first non-MH million seller.

I know it was bundled, but it looks like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue ended up selling as much as the full game.

EDIT: Also, Resident Evil 5 Gold did really well. What are all PS3 versions of RE5 (combined) up to now? >900k?

I think he's pointing out that the Best release of the first game alone almost sold as much (LTD) as the original PSP release.

There you go... beside VK1 already sold 100K+ in the 2nd week only so that makes it for sure a 250k+ which is a good number for a new SRPG IP.

Not many things to explain. The owners of that site don't want anyone else to copy data from there and they try to convince themselves and everyone else that they have ''special permission'' from Media Create and Enterbrain for posting yearly top 500 / 1000.

nah mang, Diamond/Pearl/Platinum beat GSC by several thousands. RGBY are still untouchable though.
BW looks like it will end closer to RSE than either DPPt or GSC though.

You have LTD numbers for the series? Just to have them in the thread since a few people have brought up Pokemon now. Also, was it Platinum that put DPP ahead of GSC? I was under the impression that Diamond and Pearl were above RS but below the original two gameboy entries. However, I know that Pokemon Platinum sold unusually well for a third version.

991. [PS3] Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction [PlayStation 3 the Best Reprint] (SCE) {2009.12.03} - 4.932 / 6.929

It took a full year to reach just shy of 7,000 sales for R&C:ToD. I guess that franchise isn't even on the radar in Japan.

Youch, Metal Slug XX only sold 10k copies. The series is going to flat out die if its sales don't pick up.

Also, a lot of those "The Best" versions sell really poorly. Really wish the reprints weren't counted as their own titles. screws up LTD stats.

Uh, that's a reprint of a budget release. The fact it got to that point should tell you it has sold pretty well in Japan.

It's a reprint. The original release sold about 40k 50k.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - 39.806
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time - 28.533

Edit: My numbers are either old or from a different tracker. Check below instead.

Edit: I just noticed Japan Game Charts stopped updating. That's kinda sad.

I haven't updated rankings yet but from yearly sales:

2007 CY {2007.01.01 - 2007.12.30} 271. [PS3] Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (SCE) {2007.11.11} - 50.209 / 50.209

2008 CY {2007.12.31 - 2008.12.28} 000. [PS3] Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction [PlayStation 3 the Best] (SCE) {2008.07.03} - 4.781 / 4.781

Helps publishers see which ones to budget re-issue though so it's useful to people who want to buy them. I guess a combined version of the totals would be good too, but as the top 1,000 is available then it's straightforward to figure out.

Interesting reading again. The 'Wii flop - it's over' talk seems to be based more around the number of titles as it has a few high selling ones, but fewer titles overall compared to PS3. I guess that means that under the Generation Overlap they should be able to keep the low cost end of the market happy for at least another year, maybe 2 as the core market and rich-casual move to newer systems.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

I'm not trying to put a certain mentality or spin on this. The whole series has a very unusual release history. The first game was a single SKU release and an extremely slow burner, the second one had two SKUs and made the series really big and the third one was released only 7 or 8 months after the second game and eventually had three SKUs. My point is just that Level 5 very effectively milks the franchise and ensures very high sales.

Still, it outsold Espgaluda 2. That's surprising.

Wow Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's Tag Force 4 still sold some this year as well as 5D's Tag Force 5. I see Fairy Tail: Portable Guild as well. Glad to see these IP's being viable for Konami.

103. [PS3] Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Storm 2 (Bandai Namco) {2010.10.21} - 110.298 / 110.298

420. [NDS] Naruto Shippuden: Ninjutsu Zenkai! Cha-Crash! (Takara Tomy) {2010.04.22} - 19.120 / 19.120

Surprised Tomy keeps making the games, they all pale in comparison to Bandai Namco's attempts (perhaps Naruto fanbase is moving onto sony systems).

204. [NDS] Animal Crossing: Wild World (Nintendo) {2005.11.23} - 51.396 / 5.201.968

I'm here for longevity.

The fuck is this shit?

858. [WII] Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep (Nintendo) {2009.09.17} - 6.369 / 51.503
