The game was probably made with a small team in less than a year because downgrading GT4 assets and removing features (that's all they did) couldn't have taken them too long. Also, GTP has outsold GT5in Japan at a higher pricepoint (4980 VS 5480). So considering the lazy effort, the game had to be profitable for Sony.
But I agree, Sony should never make Polyphony waste their time developing for the PSP again because they don't take the platform seriously and that will end damaging the GT brand (see western reviews of the game).

So, basically, its slipping like XII despite holidays extra push. Even if it held itself post-holidays and slips exactly like FFXII all the way (logic says post-holidays would make it slip even more than XII since right now its slipping like it), it won't do 2m, it'd do ~1.915.000. Its going to be somehow amazing if it manages to slip so much that the first week is >80% of the LTD (12 is 79.24%). Somehow amazing.Kurosaki Ichigo said:FF13 numbers if it had the same decline as...

Gundam Assault Survive, which Amazon Japan has in their database, might be the next portable Gundam title. The retail listing is the only mention of Gundam Assault Survive since it hasnt been officially announced. However, the game may be coming soon. Amazons listing says Gundam Assault Survive is slated for release on March 18.
Update: Looks like this is going down. On top of the Amazon listing we searched the Japanese trademark database and discovered Namco Bandai registered the rights to Assault Survive.

It was a bit fishy we didn't have the 5th Gundam Battle Something already, this is why.Amazon leaked the title and release date for a new PSP Gundam game yesterday. Geo E Shop came through with specifics today.
According to a listing at the online retailer, Gundam Assault Survive is a new Gundam series from the developers of the Gundam Battle series of titles which has thus far seen four entries on PSP. Players assemble a squad of three Mobile Suits and work through a real time map.
Gundam units number over 300, spanning from the Seed series to OO. In addition to 100 characters from the series, you'll be able to create your very own original pilot.
As detailed in the original Amazon listing, Gundam Assault Survive will see release on March 18.
God of War III also 3/25 with a Trilogy pack releasing that day too (GOW3 + PS3 compilation of 1&2).Geo E-Shop started pre-orders for the game today. The shop's listing flags the game with a March 25 date.
The Geo E-Shop listing has a small description of GT5, promising over 950 cars, courses numbering over 20 locations and 70 variations, vehicle damage, and the ability to carry over data from the PSP.

I wonder how much FFXIII sales were affected being released in the holidays, or if FFXIII would have sold basicly the same no matter what time of the year it had been released. I am sure that FFXIII being released in the holidays is something positive regarding sales though, and maybe several of people bought FFXIII as a gift to people since it was released in the holidays, but i wonder how much FFXIII would have sold in comparison if it had been released when the PS3 Slim was released or for example in March 2010 instead. Unfortunately we wont know the answer for sure, but i think that it is an interesting question at leastKurosaki Ichigo said:So, basically, its slipping like XII despite holidays extra push. I think that he wanted to show how FFXIII is hold up in sales week after week and how this compares to the other FF games and therefor he mentioned the 3rd week, since that is the upcoming week for FFXIII (we know how much FFXIII sold in the 1st week and in the 2nd week, but not how much it sold in the 3rd week yet). I think that it is an interesting point and that it is interesting to see how FFXIII holds up week after week compared to the other FF gamesGaimeGuy said:er, the only FF it's going to be matching is FFX2. Even if it follows previous FF trends it will be a very fast drop. Something like 150k until it's done selling.test_account said:Out of curiosity, how fast is "very fast"?Faster compared to the other Final Fantasy games?
Ye, that is true. I was just wondering if you ment if FFXIII would drop faster compared to how fast the other FF games dropped, or if you ment that FFXIII would drop about just as fast as the other FF games droppedChris1964 said:Even if it follows previous FF trends it will be a very fast drop. Given the 2nd week, low chance it seems. Interesting point, it needs to do as much as FFX-2 from week 3 to LTD to reach 2m.Chris1964 said:[PS2] Final Fantasy X-2 (Square Enix) - 1.472.914 / 1.472.914

We will know FFXIII LTD at 2010 half year top 100 (if you didn't mean that with top 100). I'm kind of getting the feeling we'll be seeing around a 4-5% drop next year, assuming we still see a few rather impressive titles pop up that aren't announced yet, just because of the scale of what was released in 2009 and the fact that software sales still went down.

Even if it only hit 400K, I'd say that's pretty significant; only a handful of PS3 games have done as well, and we consider all of them big deals.Fularu said:I'm not so sure... look :
The prologue game did 75% of what GT4 pulled... If we use the same pattern :
Can we expect GT5 to go much beyond 400k? Why would the pattern change? Also the sales numbers for both GT5P and GT5P2 are eerily similar...

Nintendo may be doomed, but Mario is not.

Isnt/wasnt the joke/saying that third party games does sell more aimed towards the Wii (and maybe the DS in 2005/early 2006, and maybe Nintendo 64 and Gamecube as well)? I think that third parties in general have pretty much always been successful on Nintendo's handheld systems, at least i cant think of any handheld Nintendo system that hasnt had good third party supportVilix said:Incorrect. But if competition from Nintendo is not the reason for low 3rd party sales then ... well lets just not go there and pretend that after DQ it says publisher:Nintendo.test_account said:Isnt/wasnt the joke/saying that third party games does sell more aimed towards the Wii (and maybe the DS in 2005/early 2006, and maybe Nintendo 64 and Gamecube as well)? I think that the VB is more like a portable system instead of a handheld system.

But they do demonstrate that a 3rd party title can sell on either machine. Nintendo 1st party doesn't kill all other sales, and the non-game buying PSP audience will buy a game in their droves if it is the right game.OldJadedGamer said:You know that Dragon Quest is the exception and not the norm. That's like pointing to Monster Hunter on the PSP and going on about how great PSP software sales are for everyone making PSP games.
I think it is less graphic whores and more people who are car whores. There is a reason they replicate real cars in their thousands, its not only about the racing it is also about the car porn, which requires as close to real life as possible.timetokill said:The genre works fine on handhelds. What you mean is that games that cater especially to graphics whores are not going to work on handhelds.

How do you mean? Did you mean it in context to what i said? Or am i missunderstanding? Konamis is Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Namco Bandais is God Eater. And by virtue of being a Monster Hunter clone, its already primed for success.
At least, thats what the demo indicates, which Inside Games report has been downloaded 1 million times. Namco are taking the feedback they received from demo players into account and tweaking the final build of the game accordingly, too. Theres also a new 2010 trailer of the game.
God Eater is scheduled for a February 4, 2010 release in Japan. When its finally published, youll be able to transfer characters from the demo to the final game, which is probably part of the reason the demo did so well.
I was just joking based on the fact that the '3rd parties don't sell on Nintendo' meme is predicated on Nintendo's first party being too strong competition, which is obviously not true given the right 3rd party product.test_account said:How do you mean? When Vilix said "Third party games do not sell well on ANY Nintendo system.", i assumed that he was referring to the "3rd party doesnt sell" joke/phrase. I then wanted to say/ask that i think that the "3rd party doesnt sell" phrase hasnt been used to every Nintendo system, especially when it comes to Nintendo's handheld systems, where 3rd party support in general has be pretty good. And since the 3rd party support is good for Nintendo's handheld systems, i assume that they have success on Nintendo's handheld systems as well. Dragon Quest IX isnt the first 3rd party game that sells great on the DS

I guess that you are joking about what you said, but if it was in context to somthing i said (since you quoted me), i didnt mean to say anything about if 3rd party games cant sell on Nintendo systems or not, i just wanted to say that i think that this phrase that 3rd party games doesnt sell on Nintendo systems hasnt been used towards every Nintendo system![]()

While this doesn't guarantee success, it does seem the game is at least getting a lot of exposure.
