Has early fan reception to Star Ocean 5 been positive? If not, the PS3 version probably won't help at all.

You're pretty much ignoring all of the negative impressions (which there are a fair amount) in the import thread.Based on the import thread:
- The characters are decent and likable
- Gameplay is Star Ocean, spammy but fun
- It's very akin to SO1 and SO2 in terms of presentation (not reliant on cutscenes, the "cutscenes" are seen on the field/gameplay view)
- The game is short, like20 hours short

The game is also getting very bad reviews on Amazon JP. It's sitting at 2.5/5 after about 260 reviews. A ton of complaints about the camera, low production values (poor graphics, bugs, weird animations, etc.), cliche/boring story, and in general, how rushed everything feels.
The last part is actually a positive for me. Don't have time to invest 40-50 hours in a game anymore.Based on the import thread:

Is Pokken having actually good legs? I don't know the norm for fighting games, but it seems to be holding up fairly well since I think it's too soon for the bomba bin.

Shame about the camera but that can be patched before Western launch. Not sure what to think of the story, but I really loved SO3's story which was universally hated so....
It has to still sell a lot of its first shipment so it is gonna hit the bomba bins sooner than later. Hardly impressive sales in Japan, not sure about WW.Is Pokken having actually good legs? SO5 utilizes the same engine that they showcased for the PS3 in a tech demo AFAIK. So I am not surprised to hear that it essentially looks like a Remastered PS3 game on PS4. I am just glad that it runs at 60 fps unlike another PS3 remaster (Tales of Zestiria) on PS4.I saw some of Aeana streaming the game and my impression was that Star Ocean 5 looked like a mid-tier PS2 game brought forth into the PS3 era (more open areas, better graphics, more seamlessness in general) and then remastered for the PS4.
It struck me as something that would most appeal to people who were playing games like this in the PS2 era or earlier, or at least were curious about what those were like.
I'm not sure how big of an audience that is in Japan on the PS4 at this point. I would not be surprised to see it do relatively poorly. For posters on our forum though, it will probably be a bit hit.
I also mean that more conceptually than graphically (though that's also true).SO5 utilizes the same engine that they showcased for the PS3 in a tech demo AFAIK. 181 days pre-launch:
comg
FF13: 77points
FF15: 32points
Do you happen to have the daily numbers for FF13 handy? I'm curious to follow the race between these two.FF13: 77 points (+0)
FF15: 40 points (+8)
I don't think it's gonna be close between the two of them, just wanted to point out that 13 isn't going to be moving for quite a while.
I doubt they would have gone for a bigger budget Star Ocean 5 coming off from the critical reception of SO4. I am just glad we got one game atleast from their new engine from the PS3 era.I also mean that more conceptually than graphically (though that's also true).
It's like what I imagine Star Ocean 4 would have played like if everything progressed smoothly, they took full advantage of the hardware, and didn't take any odd turns with the franchise.
Nothing necessarily screams "This is a PS4 take on adding niceties on top of a PS2 JRPG formula." more so than just going one generation ahead.

Why were the preorders stuck at that number? I haven no idea how it works so an explanation would be niceI can tell you the next 6 days it stays at 77 points, then 78 points for the following 4 days (numbers pulled from a user on banned site).
There is a COMG database, I have it bookmarked at home so if no-one has the url in the next few hours I'll link it when I get home

On another retailer shop, Santy, pre-orders for Ace Attorney 6 had a great boost last days. They recommend to make reservations in advance, in order to have some benefits. Commercials for the game should come soon, they said.
I had no idea the preorders were open before the release date announcement. I don't think this happened with FFXV in Japan atleast. Thanks, much appreciated!

Haven't read any impressions online, but personally enjoyed that first episode a lot. Then again, I'm a die hard fan, so not sure my impressions matter, ha ha.
Good numbers for Dark Souls 3 though. Lol at the XBO one not even listing.
And another one...
Looks like Alchemist (Gal Gun, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) is no more. Filed for bankruptcy on April 1st.
