PSP and DS had somewhat similar post-launch slumps. Hopefully when the software starts hitting in May then 3DS will start moving again.RurouniZel said:Wow, 3DS software is not looking good. This is the first time I've seen a hyped system like this start very well and then drop like a rock.

I thought One Piece was in May now too? eShop launch might help too.Father_Brain said:Well, the only major May title is DOA. It'll be interesting to see how that impacts sales, but June will be particularly telling in all territories.

I think Tales, Zelda, DOA, Star Fox and some other releases should bump the 3DS somewhat but I'm not expecting fireworks untill Mario Kart comes out.RurouniZel said:The more I think about this, the more I come to the conclusion that, while the lack of must-have software is a huge problem, the bigger problem is the MASSIVE resurgence of the PSP thanks to MHP3rd.
I mean, we knew it'd be big, but outselling DQIX (as far as I'm aware)? It's hard to see this wearing off any time soon. Zelda and Star Fox are not going to bump it much, I doubt DOA is going to move much, and I don't know of any huge 3rd party or Nintendo games coming out really soon for it.
I forsee these sales stalling/getting worse until October-ish. At least in Japan anyway...
Getting hardware driving blockbusters is important, but having a healthy lineup of A-grade filler is just as important. 3DS looks to be getting the latter starting this summer, which should at least help stem the current bleeding.RurouniZel said:The more I think about this, the more I come to the conclusion that, while the lack of must-have software is a huge problem, the bigger problem is the MASSIVE resurgence of the PSP thanks to MHP3rd.

Father_Brain said:No, you're right. I'm not so optimistic about the eShop, since (AFAIK) it'll require manually downloading the necessary firmware update, but maybe it'll do something for sales if Nintendo gives it a major marketing push.

Having just one or the other leads to the situations we see with Wii and PS3 respectively. PSP's riding high right now thanks to both variables.
4Gamer let us down again. We'll have to wait for inside-games.FINALFANTASYDOG said:According to 4gamer they aren't updating again until Friday.

I think projections on Nintencats and Layton 5 were probably a lot higher than what the results have been. Both probably should've been blockbusters.RurouniZel said:Yeah, Nintendo really should have made more of an effort to get the quality titles out faster. As it stands it looks like 3DS launch prematurely just for the sake of having it out before end of fiscal year 2010...
I'm still waiting for a SpotPass Notification.FINALFANTASYDOG said:Eshop confuses me, here we are less then 25 days away from the launch of it and we know almost nothing.

It'n not only MHP3. PSP benefits from the complete lack of software for DS. It's May and Joker is basically the first big title this year (second if you count Edgeworth 2) when there have been numerous for PSP.RurouniZel said:The more I think about this, the more I come to the conclusion that, while the lack of must-have software is a huge problem, the bigger problem is the MASSIVE resurgence of the PSP thanks to MHP3rd.
PS2 Dead or Alive 2 looks to have hit about 350K, plus another 130Kish on DC. Not sure how the first game did on PS1/Saturn.Sho_Nuff82 said:What is the highest selling DOA game in Japan?

Kinda happy for Final Promise Story.
Waiting for MC numbers to pass judgement on El Shaddai, but seeing as it's below Patapon 3...
I'm not saying it's surprising, just that it doesn't make me very optimistic.Takao said:Patapon 3 has scored pretty well with Famitsu, and really emphasizes the community aspect of the PSP, so it's not really surprising it's debuting higher than El Shaddai.
The problem with that comparison is that the DS had Nintendogs hitting around 2 weeks ago, launch aligned, and the PSP didnt recover for nearly a yearlunchwithyuzo said:PSP and DS had somewhat similar post-launch slumps.
