Media Create Sales: Week 19, 2015 (May 4 - May 10)

Media Creates Top 20, really shows how badly most games launched on PSV and PS4 actually perform in the long run. This isn´t as obvious in weeks with several new releases, since the threshhold to chart isn´t that high to put it mildly, but after the launch week there is a concerningly low amount of games that keeps selling well over the long run.
You should get a more normal week for such conclusion as in this week chart there a lot of Nintento/children games that went up 10+ places - a clear sign of children day impact.

According to the super secret source:

Splatoon's pre-order is increasing.
Kancolle may be delayed (yes, again).
Nintendo currenty have rather unrealistic (in the guy's opinion) expectation of next FE.

They probably just discovered DQ8 is releasing on that date. Probably wise to delay it a few weeks to maximise sales.

They probably just discovered DQ8 is releasing on that date. Probably wise to push it back a few weeks to maximise sales.

That may be one of the reasons, but I'm guessing after they announced to make the thing more strategy game-like instead of a browser game port, it really is taking some development time..

considering the "healthy" Wii U situation I think selling 200k w/o the bundle would have been already a great result, or everyone forgot how poor were WiiU sales in the latest 12 months?

300k or more are very unlikely, of course in my opinion

PS : don't take amazon as a reference for the market

We can wait and see how Smash, MP10 sell the next couple years.

You don't take Amazon as a reference for the market but then you use COMG. That's very contradictory.

Also you can check by yourself just staying 15 min in a Bic Camera, or another shop and see which bundle are people buying. I saw a few times people buying the Wii Sports Club bundle

I recommend to do this the Spatoon's release day

As this point, they might as well delay KanColle until the second season starts airing.

And unrealistic expetations for FEif? Weird, you wouldn't have guessed with how few units they had for the LE.

Wow, 45k digital sales for Bloodborne in less than a month? That is impressive. Has any other retail game sold a higher percentage digitally (minecraft doesn't count)?

Yeah, has there been a PS4 bundle with the digital version of BB?

Impressive numbers indeed but I think it's been confirmed that the Famitsu digital numbers are estimated (and not very good in some cases).

Some smaller games with low sales have seen better results.
But it's the first time we see this percentage in a +100k game.

First, I love how Mario Kart 8 is holding up after more than a year. This game deserves big sales.

Second, Do you guys think that Wii U will sell more than PS4 in Japan at the end of the generation? It seems so.

Third, I didn't think Mine Craft craze reached Japan.

No way, PS4 has much more potential because of third party support and Wii U is dying already.

When it comes to Wiiu and PS4, the situation basically is Nintendo versus Western+Japanese publishers, while the former is a quite strong selling point, it has to compete with an established 3DS ecosystem that already includes Nintendos 1st party strength and WiiU has to work against all 3rd party publishers and their combined marketing budgets, visibility and quantity, which PS4 is benefiting from. Anyway considering all the support PS4 got and is supposed to get its performance is ridiculously low in Japan, we are looking for at least until next year before just matching WiiUs userbase.

Sony platforms never had long seller games... it's very hard to find some title hanging the chart for more than 4 or 5 weeks

when I run the japan sales site I remember both PS1 and PS2 barely have games with tie-ratio around 60% or less, opposite on Nintendo platforms, since N64 days (cause we don't have data for SFC)

so it's not correct to put in bad light both PSV and PS4 for something that always happened in Sony ecosystem
And just to add to your point, its the total software sale that matters anyway. If its achieved in one week or one year, that is more of a curiousity. Its actually better to sell quickly than slow because then you get the money faster.

Western countries being unconditioned to gachapon is the bane of most of Japan's mobile leaders
I'm not sure how popular these things are today, but trading cards used be very popular in the west. Its the same concept, having to buy pack of cards, and it was completely random which cards you recieved.

Has there been any leak this year with those updated Nintendo WW SW LTD from that security company?, or whatever it was.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Expecting AC situation were it will do okay on WiiU considering the userbase but the IP will really shine once they put the game on the next handheld.

Well Nintendo already stressed in the direct that Splatoon characters are at the age of 14 so I'm sure it will sell well in Japan.

"We will pursue mobile games aggressively," says Konami's new CEO Hayakawa in an interview with Nikkei Trendy Net.

"Our main platform will be mobiles. Following the pay-as-you-play model of games like Power pro and Winning Eleven with additional content, our games must move from selling things like "items" to selling things like "features."

"We saw with these games that even people who buy physical games are motivated to buy extra content. The success of Power pro especially has motivated us to actively push more of our popular series onto mobile than ever before."

"Gaming has spread to a number of platforms, but at the end of the day, the platform that is always closest to us, is mobile. Mobile is where the future of gaming lies."

"We hope that our overseas games such as MGSV and Winning Eleven continue to do well, but we are always thinking about how to push our franchises onto mobile there too."

"With multiplatform games, there's really no point in dividing the market into categories anymore. Mobiles will take on the new role of linking the general public to the gaming world."

I wasn't really sure where to post this but I figured here was ok? Since we're talking about mobile games and stuff.

I feel hiska is a little overestimating Splatoon potential
I mean, 2 weeks before its release it has 42pt on comgnet, not so much for his prediction about 100k on first week

anyway it will be interesting to see how it will perform, actually western games are more popular than the previous generation, but also the target which Splatoon is aimed to is not properly the audience which buys western titles

Comg points and Nintendo don't mean much.

Its a lot easier to use comg to see performance of Sony titles.

Still, comg isnt exactly representative of all of Japan so should be used with caution when identifying national trends and pre orders.

42pt at this point is ahead of XCX and Pikmin 3 so it's in line with Hiska's prediction. Comg tends to have a Sony bias in their customers so their point ratio tends to 1 to 1k in sales or less if it's more hardcore. Nintendo titles vary much more wildly with more casual stuff having better ratios.

i've always been worried for nintendo, the ds and wii being successful did relieve it somewhat, but i've always felt like they're the least likely to make it in the long run, the software-end won't die out but im afraid for the hardware side.

they're stuck in a middle road where they can't go mobile but then they can't stick to dedicated hardware either, are my worries overreaction?

I actually think they're the least likely to go out of the dedicated hardware market: prefer to explore other solutions in parallel rather than give up, don't believe in streaming until the technology is perfect in terms of latency, seems to always find ways to stay relatively financially viable to support them having their own hardware.
That's pretty different from Microsoft and Sony.

That's also probably for another topic :p

i've always been worried for nintendo, the ds and wii being successful did relieve it somewhat, but i've always felt like they're the least likely to make it in the long run, the software-end won't die out but im afraid for the hardware side.

they're stuck in a middle road where they can't go mobile but then they can't stick to dedicated hardware either, are my worries overreaction?

They've got so much money in the bank that I'm pretty sure they can afford to take a few risks for at least another decade or two. If anything I think they're the most likely to hold out.
