You people are so wrong :p

It's "el" for everything. "videoconsola" it's a word I've never seen actually used in real life so it's usually referring to the "device" ("aparato") or the "game" ("juego").

Now "la Nintendo" would be referring to the company: "la empresa Nintendo", "el Nintendo" would refer to the consoles themselves "el juego/aparato Nintendo".

I know a lot of Nintendo fans who get angry when you say "la Wii", lol. I say it too myself, it flows much better than "il Wii" imo.

Silly thing to get riled up about.
Wii had a lot of silly themes last gen. La Wii sounds like one of the more "innocent"

Maybe Nintendo should target a sub $200 console next time around. Going by the lessons of Gamecube, well they'll have no problem simply recycling the Wii U hardware.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. But it would put them two gens behind in power and they could kiss any and all ports goodbye (for sure this time). For Nintendo's own games it seems pretty clear that the Wii U is enough to do what they want in HD. We still need to see what Zelda will look like, but the rest of their games look fantastic, and their average consumer wouldn't hugely notice a bump up to 1080p or whatnot.

I can't wait until Nintendo actually fucking announces something as this incessant yet completely addictive speculation is killing me.

EDIT: Also, when I dropped back into the thread I thought people were saying 'El Nintendo' would be a great name for the next console, lol. It think that's pretty good! More chance of it being called the Nintendo WIi L, though.

In Spain they're called "consola". So it's "la Nintendo-Play-Wii-360".

That's terrible number for Basara 4. While Ishin is good compared to Kenzan, especially if we considered that there wouldn't be any overlap in that.

Aside from acquiring IPs and studios, I think that Nintendo would get some nice things out of buying Capcom. Specifically, information and expertise regarding HD development, Western tastes. Capcom of America seems to be pretty good at market research. Their input could also be useful for determining what third parties need for console design.

The problem is that Capcom's direction does not gel with Nintendo's at all, nor would any other big Japanese publishers'.
I don't think that will change at all. Capcom USA is definitely aware of western tastes, but Capcom Japan is clueless and they seem to act on their own accord.

So Capcom USA merely act as publisher of Capcom Japan in US then. Why is big publisher always clueless on western tastes despite them having western publishing branch.

I feel Capcom would be a better fit than most to be honest. Nintendo's taken a specific interest in their biggest core franchises before (Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man) and as you alluded to MT Framework is exactly the sort of crossplatform environment Nintendo's been needing and likely the direction they're headed with their hybrid development talk. Phanta Rhei seems like a good target for their nextgen platforms too. Even if Nintendo limited Capcom's resources to mainly engine/technology R&D, with asset creation support (for EAD) and maybe a couple key games on the side (MH/RE/etc) it'd make some sense for them.

Nintendo would net another western studio in the process too with Capcom Vancouver that could be used on IP revivals. Capcom also has little in the way of irrelevant businesses or ventures to Nintendo's needs, it's really just their mobile/online subsidiaries and groups (Beeline, Capcom Tokyo) which could be repurposed or sold off. They're comparably focused and compact versus the other big Japanese publishers like Square Enix, Namco Bandai, Sega or Konami.

Basara 4 has a heavily female audience iirc. They probably should've made the game crossplatform with 3DS to really net the most fanbase.

Looks like DQM2 will have a slitghly lower first week, compared to TW. Then again, there's still 3 weeks left till launch, so I think the opening will be rather similar.

I wonder if 2014 will be the year that video game market rises again in Japan, but again I had the same expectation last 2 years. PS4 launching early this year will help. It will collapse after a few weeks with the release schedule it has but it will have done its work. Everything depends on 3DS and if Nintendo finally creates a new hit since they have lost Mida's touch (and touch with reality in general) last years.

This makes me think of Nintendo's other "failure and a joke" console---the Virtual Boy.

I wonder if Nintendo has the balls to just abruptly, silently discontinue the Wii U like they did with the Virtual Boy so long ago. I guess circumstances might be different because of the ubiquitousness of the Internet and the exposure the console has already.

But if the console really is such a horrible failure that can't be recouped, I wonder if it could be a possibility. Gamers still purchased the Game Boy and Nintendo 64 despite getting burned with the Virtual Boy. It was just a blip on the radar.

I think the cost of software development nowadays would be the biggest difference. At this point they have probably spent over $60 million creating the new Smash, Zelda and X.

I think the most likely outcome of the WiiU fiasco is that they will release all the planned games for 2014 and support it in 2015 with the new Zelda and Metroid, after that there will probably be no more software announced and then we will hear about a new home console at E3 2016.

Software will be down for sure, though.

Last Week's Sales Figures: Week 1, 2014 (Dec 30 - Jan 5)

I expect the Vita 2000 to get a price cut in March. Sony is still selling the Vita 2000 at the same price as the original Vita. Vita 2000 must be much cheaper to produce since it has no OLED screen.

Isn't 3DS going decline? WiiU and possibly Vita may see a increase but it will be minor. Our only hope is PS4, though it depends on how big the 3DS decline is.

March is too soon. I'd expect a global price cut at gamescon with the introduction of Vita 2000 in the West.

I think that's too late. Spring release seems right. E3 in the worst case. And didn't famous mortimer hint that price drop will be relatively soon?

March is the best month for both a Vita price cut in Japan and Vita 2000 intro in the west. There are quite a few important releases in Japan and here that's the month FFX/X-2, Minecraft Vita and perhaps Borderlands 2 come out.

Yep, he's been hinting March for a while now. Even more of a reason to believe it'll be that month.

I don't know. Maybe just a regional price cut in Japan might work but that would be just a year after the first price cut which seems a bit too soon. Though March would make sense in Japan looking at the software.

See I think Sony would want to relaunch Vita with the Vita 2000 in the west. But that's just me optimistically thinking Sony cares for the console.

SCEJ cares. SCEE too, a bit. Just SCEA don't care at all.

Google translation is not their forte.

They mistook Kirby's Return to Dream Land initial sell-through rate (49,88%) for Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

So, I just saw the Dengeki detailed report for 2013 and got kind of sad about the Japanese video game industry.

Top 7 games are 3DS. Only four million sellers (three if you combine Pokémon X and Y). Grand Theft Auto V is the best selling console (non-handheld) title.

Interesting. Wonder why they went with a low shipment this go round...

If you look at the 4 previous games, basically the same amount was shipped. They were also all before the holiday season, so retailers probably thought that, even if they ordered way more than what they expect to sell first week, they would sell during the holidays eventually.

And, specifically to Triple Deluxe, Media Create calculated that, 13 days before launch, pre-orders were 25k, then rose to 58k, 6 days before launch, and jumped to 103k in the end. That could mean retailers and Nintendo probably weren't expect such a strong launch and it was probably too late when they realized that.

Sony should bundle a copy of Tearaway with every Vita in Japan. Force them to show Iota some respect. No one needs Welcome Park anymore.

I really wonder where you found these numbers. Only 3 million sellers?

I get kind of sad when I see top sellers at the rest of the world.

Of those 4 though, only Return to Dreamland could be considered traditional new Kirby, and was released basically when the Wii had packed up; shipments were much bigger for the DS entries. I'd have expected a bit more faith in a brand new traditional Kirby on a hot selling platform like the 3DS. But it does make sense that they'd want to be more conservative with shipments during a slower sales period.

Squeak Squad and Super Star Ultra also were a few weeks before holidays and got bigger shipments. Triple Deluxe was a Saturday, not Thursday release.

Either way, there are more important things right now like Iwata's new master plan for 2014.

One other thing that I'd like to share. PS Vita is the only hardware that sold more in 2013 than in 2012.

We have 2013 YTD from Famitsu and Media Create, it's not a secret.

We know million sellers for 2013 and they are way more than 3, Famitsu gave top 10 for last year..

It seems like the 3ds is at saturation point; Most core gamers in Japan have one(it seems) i wonder if these 3DS owners would pick up a Vita, since the software is pretty different .

Ahh, looks like I was looking at fiscal year. Six or seven million sellers for the calendar year looks a bit better.
