Are there a lot of games that revive from the dead like that? I vaguely recall one example, but the name doesn't come to mind.

The original Brain Age. Outside of that, there's very few games that starts with a "low" first week then go on to sell such an insane amount of copies.

Which was their highest selling DS game last gen?

Either IE2 or IE3 depending if you count the IE3 third release as the same game or something different.

03./00. [PS3] Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland (Gust) - 43,243 / NEW

[PS3] Atelier Ayesha: Alchemist of the Ground of Dusk (Gust, 06/28/12) – 75,874

14./00. [PS3] New Atelier Rorona: Hajimari no Monogatari - The Alchemist of Arland # <RPG> (Gust) {2013.11.21} (¥7.140) - 14.060 / NEW

Added Ayesha to that. It's a bit sad that the franchise has been declining, even though it has been getting better and better. Then again, there must have been a new Atelier game or a Vita port, pretty much every year for the past I don't know how many years now.

I wonder what's nest for Gust? Atelier on PS4? Keeping making them for PS3? Try something else for a while?

Oreshika did within my expectation, it almost hit 100k so it did better than the PS1 and a bit better than the PSP versions of the game. I'm not sure what are Sony's expectations on the title but I'm hoping Oreshika will hit them. It certainly not lighting up the charts but I can't think that the expectations were any higher than 150k LTD.

Nice to see P4G back in the charts, that anime effect. I think SAO anime is keeping the game in the charts or at least slowing its disappearance.

I wish I could comment on PS4 but I'm afraid it's going to be the same story for the whole year. Maybe TSG can be the beacon of light but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Also, what happened to Deep Down? That game was supposed to have a beta and then it has disappeared from the face of the Earth.

They either canceled the game, it's on hiatus till PS4 sells better or they are waiting for the right time to announce the beta

Those Wii Sports Club numbers aren't a shock, but I'm sad all the same. This doesn't bode well for a ground-up new Sports game or even an HD Sports Resort.

maaan, YW2 is a beast, and the first one is still selling well...what a phenomena! Good debut also for Oreshika, and both 3DS and Vita hold well. Decent hold also for MK8 and Wii U HW.

I find it funny both of those have games releasing this year.

Good to see the Vita's YTD already being higher than last years total. :)

Also, it looks like the PSP stock has finally been depleted.
Glad I was able to stock up on some units before they were impossible to find new.

Are these Mario Kart 8 numbers good for Japan? Compared to say Mario Kart 7 and Double Dash. Might be unfair to compare it to the Wii given how wildly successful that system was.

I feel it has a good shot of doing better LTD than the GBA and GameCube games. The N64 game might be a bit much given how the Wii U is doing.

NDS : Mario Kart DS - 224,411 / 4,002,914
WII : Mario Kart Wii - 608,147 / 3,701,492
3DS : Mario Kart 7 -  451,932 / 2,272,812
N64 : Mario Kart 64 - 160,363 / 1,711,661
GBA : Mario Kart: Super Circuit - 261,797 / 938,175
NGC : Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - 179,230 / 825,894
WIU : Mario Kart 8 -  350,749 / 542,070
WIU : Mario Kart 8 [Nintendo eShop] {DL} - 13,993 / 13,993
3DS : Mario Kart 7 [Nintendo eShop] {DL} -   ?   / 1,062

28./16. [WIU] Wii Fit U # <HOB> (Nintendo) {2014.02.01} (¥5.985) - 2.067 / 174.446 <80-100%> (-38%)
29./17. [WIU] Wii Party U # <ETC> (Nintendo) {2013.10.31} (¥4.935) - 2.009 / 779.994 <80-100%> (-39%)

Didn't know that Atelier games sell so little, ouch.

It deserves a lot more, in my opinion. They should be within 100k.

Who can find what were the sales of the PS2 Atelier games? I looked around and couldn't find anything, aside from Atelier Aris 3 - Atelier Iris Grand Fantasm (PS2) 23760 (23,760).

Oh you scared me for a second, lol! Last year's total is aligned to this week. :)

Vita 2011: 439,986 (Dec launch)
Vita 2012: 690,839 (nothing special)
Vita 2013: 1.224.532 (price cut, Vita TV, Vita 2000)
Vita 2014: 737.463 (so far)

After two monhts on the market this was MK7
06./04. [3DS] Mario Kart 7 <RCE> (Nintendo) {2011.12.01} (¥4.800) - 26.791 / 1.460.749 (-8%)

So MK is holding well (MK7 benefit a lot also from the Holiday season) considering the install base
Don't know about DD pace, but its LTD was around 825k; I think MK8 could reach that milestone if bundled later on

I remember when it was definitely going to fall behind in March, and stay behind. Good times.

Oh, looks like I read that wrong. :-/

I remember when it was definitely going to fall behind in March, and stay behind. Good times.

I was afraid it will fall behind in June/July due to Toukiden boost from last year but value packs saved the day.

Now real test will be matching November sales - but on the other hand september/october 2013 was really bad so it will build some safety margin.

Thought that got killed ages ago. Pretty sure we had a thread.

In before people think an online store exclusive Frozen plated console will move the dial.

it should have been white :)

They need games and there are none coming any time soon. (c'mon compile heart... you can do it)

they wanted to keep up so much in the West with Xbox that they launched late in Japan and now they don't have the games Japan likes it might take a while yet to get those titles

Good opening for Oreshika. Hopefully it can get to ~150k lifetime at retail since that would be a bit better than the original. Vita still on track to being at 4 million LTD by the end of the year as well. Good, very good.

Also looks like P4G joins GE2 in the 300k+ club, I wonder if/when Freedom Wars (and FFX/X-2 HD for that matter) joins them.

Anyway does Oreshika numbers have to good. Hopefully it gets to an LTD of 150k+. SCEJ best be happy with it and work on a new Wild Arms.

3DS basically keeping the games industry in Japan alive single handed.

I'm having trouble imagining how this market will survive the transition from 3DS to whatever successor to it comes along.

Curious to see what the numbers for the Vita re-releases have been. Now that we have ports through to Ayesha we could at least see how Ayesha Vita's fared compared to Meruru Vita.

In general, it feels like the Dusk trilogy hasn't evolved as obviously as the Arland trilogy did, and perhaps that's why sales have fallen off. I'm really, really, really hoping it's not because the Dusk trilogy scales back on the moe-moe bits, because I don't really want the Atelier series to go back to that. That said, at least the franchise doesn't seem to be in danger.

I only played Escha & Logy, but it was the weakest Atelier by far. No interesting characters, no sense of adventure or urgency. My favourites are Totori > Rorona >> Meruru >>>>> Escha & Logy.

The performance is bad, but the digital availability for several months now (even if not the same/complete package) definitely reduced the potential I'm sure.

It also downloads itself automatically if you leave the Wii U connected online with default settings. But at any rate, it's obvious the gigantic would-never-buy-a-console-ever userbase that bought the Wii and DS Lite in droves has long left the building.

Biggest ever decline for a sequel ?

Its not really a sequel, it had a sequel, with much more content, this is more 'HD remake' or 'online edition' of the original game (ie missing all the new stuff they added in the sequel) territory.... that had already been released in bits for months previously (I assume Japan had it digitally?).

I don't know what Nintendo expected by this physical release but it can't have been much with a release story like that lol.

21./00. [WIU] Wii Sports Club <SPT> (Nintendo) {2014.07.17} (¥3.996) - 2.566 / NEW <0-20%>

I fully expected this.

I also expect similar levels of performances in the July NPD results. Maybe similar to Wii Fit U's 20K.

I think it's likely that they're releasing Atelier games too rapidly and that's the cause of the sales decline. They were doing okay when they released one a year (like clockwork - Shalie is the first one to not come out in June since 2009), but then they also started releasing slightly enhanced Vita ports as well, along with the remake of Rorono last year.
