I find it strange that people still don't get Smoky Dave. Week after week people always fall for it, and not only in these threads
Some people just need to relax a bit. It's all good fun![]()
At an average of around a 1/3rd decline on the primary platforms with the one that's going up being counterbalanced by its predecessor finally dying off, it's not an overly rosy picture even accounting for the fact the holidays are over.
With the Vita it's not exactly blazing across the sky despite going up either...
Now, the PS3 is in its eighth year, so perhaps that's a bit of an unfair assessment to it, but if the PS4 also fails to do much that doesn't really pick up the slack of its extended decline.
drink?
I still remember the week when the 3DS outsold the Vita 47 to 1. I remember when 15k was a pipe dream.
Given that, I'll happily pop champagne for every week it's over 20k. As for it being the only system showing any growth this year, well that's just the cherry on the cake.
I'm sticking to my prediction too, it'll be up YoY this year.
What games would they transition for?
Man, why do you take this so seriously?
Amazing in today's Japanese market. The same market where only one title in the entire lifespan of PS3 has sold over a million copies.![]()
Well, what WRPGs can you think of which had a big marketing push in Japan with good localization? That's probably a major factor too.
Do we have any sense of what percentage of eShop sales Nintendo might be getting in addition to the retail sales? As of yet, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds looks headed to sell around half a million units.
Ocarina of Time 3D had a softer launch (it wasn't released during the holiday season) but from week 4 onwards showed strong legs. It would end up reaching 600.000 units.

It probably because of IP fatigue, but I can't blame them either somehow for using the same IP over and over when we have to consider the high-cost, high-risk development cycle on HD games. It's really surprises me on how Gust able to consistently slate out their games on this HD era with their niche audience. The reason could be franchise fatigue, poor PS3 reception and low user base and shift ot handhelds but the point is its stupid hoping for these franchises to suddenly sell millions again apart from a select few. Pubs should be looking into new IP's and not become too reliant on their old ones.
The PS2 era saw stuff like DW/SW, Onimusha, KH, Winning Eleven become big hits as well as smaller titles like Devil May Cry and Yakuza.
The PS3 has very few cases where a franchise has suddenly grew in popularity or a new IP has become a hit. In fact Souls and DD is all I can think of.
I dunno, but if there anre't any maybe Bethesda should look into it. Witcher 3 too. Thats a might fine AAA rpg for next gen, something that will be very rare in Japan.
I feel ya dude. You're not wrong.the Vita YoY is the greatest thing ever, it cures cancer and is the future reason for world piece.
You have to wonder how the 'decline' looks in terms of overall revenue. Could be that the Japanese industry is bigger than ever, but the two largest revenue drivers (mobile games and digital Vita games) aren't represented by these charts.
Late 2015.Realistically earliest we could see a new Nintendo handheld in Japan?

Translation: RIP Japan?????
Versus releasing at a time when Japan is dying wasn't due to development problems.
It was always destiny...destiny to save the Japanese console market and create a new generation of core gamers.
Save us prince Noctis!

I think it's growing, but it's generally high single digit / low double digit percentages at the moment. That's what I've gathered from the very scarce data that has popped up, anyway.Well I almost choked myself reading that, but the real question that popped in my head is whether or not digital download in general popular in Japan. I would like to see the answer to that question.

Delusional, you still are.
Not even Sony thinks Vita is the future

I think Nintendo will release a new handheld/portable something in fall 2015. I could see them unveiling some kind of 3ds revision later this year then just chugging along and hoping sales don't die wii style until their next hardware is ready.Realistically earliest we could see a new Nintendo handheld in Japan?

We have these. (Number in brackets is retail number)We know that Vita is digital centric system in the west, but is it the same for Japan? To know how big digital library game is in Japan I think we need sales digital sales data on popular game across all handheld platform like GE2, MH4, and compare them with them with their respective retail sales.
I'm genuinely curious on Japanese perception to digital games.
Next Nintendo handheld should be expected to be revealed at E3 2015 I think. Probably release in 2016.
I think they should release the 2DS alongside a price cut in Japan. Not sure when though, probably in Q1 FY2014 (April-June).
They should probably do a $30 price cut in the west as well in Q1 FY2014.

I can't believe you would twist the figures to suit your own ends. Have you no respect for the sanctity of data?sörine;98061008 said:That only PS3 retail sells any games?
Skyrim? (though I don't know how the localization turned out). Witcher games also got localized IIRC.
Bye, Wii U.
After figuring out how to get percent working in open office, I did a comparison of the sales so far, it's looking grim in japan...
Skyrim. And that's about it (although Witcher 3 has been picked up by Spike Chunsoft, which has to mean something).Well, what WRPGs can you think of which had a big marketing push in Japan with good localization? That's probably a major factor too.

Does this mean the Vita card limit was raised above 4GB?So yeah, SRW Z3 is now getting a retail release on Vita. Originally it was going to be DD-only due to size constraints. It'll be out the same day as the PS3 version is.

DKCR sold around a million in Japan with a much bigger install base and opened with 170k sales. It also launched around the holiday period which would have helped sales.
What can we realistically expect the Wii U game to open with? Sub 100k?
