I see what you mean with the first part, but how is this not taking care of the IP? Being on another platform shouldnt matter much either in my opinion, it seems that they're simply trying to expand the IP. If this game doesnt sell well, the game could be ported, or the sequel can be made for the old platform again. I dont think people will start losing interest in a franchise just because one extra game in the franchsie is on another platform. Maybe several of owners of the other platform are very interested in the game. Hard to say for sure without trying.the whole mainline/gaiden bs that comes out of every non-multiplat game suddenly switching platforms, even if only for a brief period. Platform confusion or the idea that there may be a "complete edition" somewhere down the road, even if they insist one's only a spinoff. It may very well pay off (esp. since it'll be releasing during/immediately after the anime), but it seems to me like they're not taking care of what's becoming a reasonably profitable IP.

Sony giving up right now would be like a footy club, that made it to the World Cup, giving up because they're 2 goals down in the first 20 minutes of play.
I don't reply much to sales threads anymore, mostly because I can't think of anything meaningful to say that hasn't already been stated by others.
I will say, however, that as they currently stand, things look bleak for the future of the Vita (and for Sony as well, but I digress) and the main reason it is thus is because Sony simply built the wrong machine.
What good is a beautiful OLED screen without the video and music content to back it up? What good is an always-on connection if you can't do something do simple as send text messages or integrate the system into your life like any smartphone or an iPad? What good are decent game control options if you're not positioning the system to play the kinds of games that take advantage of them?
I said it before and I'll say it again - the Vita should never have been a PSP2. It should have been a phone with a PSPGo form factor and a game card slot. It should have been a tablet with slide-out buttons / analog sticks. It should have been a minimum hardware spec that integrated into all the portable devices people carry with them everywhere. It should have launched with Sony's answer to iTunes - a system that seamlessly integrated with Android devices people currently owned.
Something like that was what I was honestly expecting. The souped-up PSP that we got should have been released as an afterthought.
People talk about how Sony was competing with smartphones and tablets. I don't think they bothered to compete at all.
make it seem like I'm on a particular side of the fence.
I salute you, sales topic soldier. We're in this thread to talk about sales and make conclusions about those sales. It's not about the conclusions themselves, it's about whether or not your conclusions make sense with what we know. If it doesn't, you'll get the dissertation, especially if you ignore the data outright.
The OLED is also benefit games. Music Unlimited (which is pretty similar to Spotify) is already available for it, i'm not sure about any video services for Japan. There are also many games that takes advantage of the dual analog sticks. Text messaging would only be for the 3G model (it is actually possible to recieve SMS with it, but you cant send anything for some reason).I don't reply much to sales threads anymore, mostly because I can't think of anything meaningful to say that hasn't already been stated by others.

Medarot is actually its name in Japan?
I always thought it was a GAF joke born from the sheer number of games in the series.
I found this out a few weeks ago. I was || this close to calling out Takao for running the joke into the ground and then, "You've got to be kidding...." Its easy to see why they changed it for the west.Lol at Medabots actually being called Medarot. I thought that was an in-joke.
Japan dates read MM/DD. So the release date should be October 11. I've watched every video I can on the game and still have no idea how it's played.BTW does anyone know if the Project X Zone release date is October 11 or November 10? That game looks ridiculous. I may have to import an XL.
I wonder why it is like this. I'm not speaking about anyone specific here, but in general. Being on a gaming forum, i would think that people want all systems to succeed, offering more options for gamers. As you say, it happends to every system, so it isnt just for one particular one. Maybe it has something to do with that people are "afraid" that a system will dominate that arent their first choice of system, but i dont know. We know that systems can co-excist fine, but sometimes it might difficult.its not the "gaf antisony" conspiracy,it happened with the 3ds or ps3,will happen with the wiiu, some of you people seems to enjoy when sony,ms or nintendo have rough times, fun and laughs, yeah, and then when some devs close, when people like sony liverpool closes then ONLY then people get mad.

I believe 3DS has been performing remarkably similar to the GBA.Could we see the 3ds launch aligned with the PSP and DS? The bigger issue at hand is the general malaise in the games market, Japan AND the world over.
The 3DS is doing well in the current market, but would these numbers have been respectable in 2006ish?
I kind of feel like this isn't a KO, it's more like 3DS just hit the floor later.
I don't think the situation is that dire per se, it's just disappointing all around.

DS at the end there doesnt include the DS Lite sales. I'm not sure how to incorporate it into this chart using garaph.info.
Which is why you promote that guy out of the way. Make him global head of consulting management or something. His 2IC then heads up the new team with the understanding that good things are in his future if the project succeeds. What you haven't taken into account is internal corporate polictics. If it had a phone function it would have been taken over by their mobile division, and whomever in charge of electronic entertainment was going to die before he let that division "steal" his project. Because it would have meant the PSP section of the division shut down and people let go while that guy in the mobile division get to build a new section with his hand picked people.
I never said it should be less powerful. I said it should have been a minimum spec (i.e. a shared OS and hardware spec including a game card slot, analog stick and buttons) that was a part of a bunch of other devices. Vita should have been a closer equivalent to iOS than to 3DS with a standalone, dedicated gaming handheld simply being Sony's answer to the iPod Touch. The OLED is also benefit games. In hindsight however, seeing how the Vita is selling now, i agree that making a less powerful system would be a better idea. Also making it smaller, like a PSP Go type of design as you mentioned. Also pricing it at max 20,000 yen (or $199). My guess is that Sony made the Vita powerful as it is thinking about long term plans. Mobile graphics is afterall just getting better and better.

Go to Group by and press Hardware Family.
Ah, i didnt know about that option. ThanksSelect hardware family instead of system.
Yep.Does that include 3DS XL?
Dont get me wrong, im not one of these, vita numbers are bad and the future seems bleak, but its funny how you make fun of people because they are "invested emotionally" and u are on more vita threads than these dudes..
Oh, like that. I was thinking about making it less powerful to be able to maintain a lower price.I never said it should be less powerful. @Andrex - Isn't he (Sven) talking about imported copies?

Yeah, that might have worked pretty well. I'm still wondering about the branding and pricing issues however. iPod Touch sells great not only because of the hardware and price, but also because of all the cheap games you can get on it. Sony have upcoming PS Mobile, which is a developement kit/suite for mobile-like games. I wonder if this will support more app-like stuff as well or just pure games. I'm curious how well this will do (it isnt only for Vita, it will be supported by some smartphones too, but it will be on Vita as well).
Maybe throw GBA on there too? I guess GBA numbers is respectable enough. I just don't see the 3DS taking the same trajectory as the DS ever in it's lifetime. It may be that PS2 and DS will never be outdone. It's unfortunate considering console sales have generally increased from generation to generation.
3ds won't hit ds heights but should do noticably better than PS2, if and its a big if wii u gets most of the 3rd party support then its got a shot at PS2 level numbers too
Sorry I should've been clearer. I was just pointing out the handheld and home console kings.

Dem legs beginning to show.

CongratsNew baby was born
Also, while of course 3DS won't reach DS height. We also have to consider the DS has gone through one more holiday season than the 3DS. Anyway, it will more than likely exceed PS2 especially with MH4 and Pokemon hitting the system(likely next year).
Obviously 3DS will never reach DS, but considering how close PSP got to PS2 and that 3DS is tracking over both, I can totally see 3DS overtaking PS2.

When you add the west together (NA + EU) it's nearly double the sales of Vita total in JP,
Nintendo just will have to happily accept GBA-ish numbers now that a big part of their market doesn't mind settling for phone games. Something like DS is just never going to happen again.
Well with it being a pack in title it likely will still sell decently. So now that we have a release month (march 2013) for MH4, what effect if any will this have on MH Tri U releasing just 4 months prior? Before I thought Tri U would reach 500K no problem, as in fairly quick but now I'm not so sure. Will hardcore MH fans pass up Tri U as they likely already played Tri or Tri G and would just bear the short wait to MH4?
PSO2 on PC is fucking fantastic. It's the only game I'm even half looking forward to. I might just upgrade my PC instead.

Disclaimer: Because apparently we need to prove we have no bias before posting. I like the Vita. When I played it at TGS last year I gave it a good review. Also since now that I'm a dad, portable gaming is 90% of what I do so I want all portables to succeed. In media create threads I have no agenda I just like the numbers. That said:
Here is what going on in my small town in Japan:
1. When Vita launched it was front and center in all the game stores in my town and all the major department stores. Kiosks and dedicated Vita areas in 3 of the stores.
2. Now 2 stores who had vita at launch (Mr. Max and Youme Town) no longer carry the system.
3. The remaining stores have scaled down their Vita areas. Whereas they used to be nearest the entrance they are now farther back with PS3 and 3DS out front. Geo put the vita near the Wii. Wanpaku put the Vita near the 360, etc. Only the Otaku-gamer store Book-Net has kept the same location for Vita but the are pushing used units harder than new.
4. Same thing happened with the original Xbox. It was in every store (even convenience stores!) for the first 9-months-1 year or so before become a product only to be found in specialty stores. The Vita is not the 360 but I can easily see department stores and smaller shops phasing it out.
5. Vita ads (with the exception of Miku last month) have dried up considerably. During a 4 hour block of prime time I will be lucky to see one. 3DS ads almost every commercial break (mostly "casual" titles).
6. I am an English teacher by day and my students have stopped talking about the system. The Monster Hunter boys are still playing the PSP or have moved on to the 3DS.
7. The Otaku gamers are still hopeful. But they are willing to cash in their systems and rebuy when the next big titles come in.
8. In the wold I have seen a total of less than 10 Vitas since launch. Only 2 of them being used by people under the age of 18. 3DS everywhere. But it is partly that young kids are not shy about playing in public and they need to do streetpass.
9. WiiU hype among my students is also really low. Many students don't know that a new Nintendo system is on the way. Nintendo needs to fix this.
10. Used Wii systems can be had for 9000yen, used 360s for 6000yen, used PS3s keep most of their value.
Ok, that's all for now. Busy days recently. And to answer an earlier question, it's a girl.
I thought DQXs legs were longer than expected given the front loaded nature of DQ not to mention it being an MMO.Dragon Quest X sales are slow...or slowing down.
Let's see if it picks up on the Wii U.
