No we won't. By any rational person's deduction it is already a failure, one year is not going to change that. It has carved out it's own little niche in JP and will not break Gamecube numbers worldwide. People will keep denying Vitas failings until it's actually pulled from the shelves. The same goes for Wii U, though I personally would excercise some caution when talking about a console which has yet to recieve it's biggest games. No doubt it'll never be "a success" but it could move enough units to be a gamecube 2.0.

If only...

I don't get why people get so defensive (and honestly delusional) about ViitaU's situation. I mean, you can love them and enjoy them without pretending they're not the biggest gaming disasters in recent history.

If I'm feeling like shit, there's somebody else out there feeling shittier.

Not like it matters. I can see the Vita doing decent numbers in the holidays. Wii U? lol not a chance.
That wasnt really my point. I was thinking more about that if a Vita hardware revision and 6 new colors cant sell more than 20k-30k in 4 days, what would a WiiU Premium bundle do in comparison. The comparison being that both the Vita and WiiU are selling poorly in Japan, and both have intensives (hardware revison/new colors and hardware bundle) to increase the sales. It was unnecessary of me to angle it as a counter-reply to Vita's poor sales, i agree with that, but i also ment it as a serious comparison.

first day sellthrough

[PS3] Grand Theft Auto V - 80%
[360] Grand Theft Auto V - 80%

[PS3] Tales of Symphonia: Unisonant Pack - 50%
[PS3] Soccer Tsuku: Pro Soccer Club! - 60%
[PSV] Soccer Tsuku: Pro Soccer Club! - 40%
[PS3] Fairy Fencer F [Limited Edition] - 70%
[PSV] Dangan-Ronpa 1-2: Reload - 50%

Nice.

Considering their sales targets, I'm expecting their first shipment to be no less than 300k (PS3 + 360).

I know we like to joke, but it's obvious by now that Sony isn't planning on dropping Vita like a hot potato anytime soon. It'll have it's little niche in the market and that's about it.
Isn't that up to the market? If sales continue to fall it's not like Sony can force them on retailers/consumers.

Nintendo is getting closer to the same situation with the Wii U but it's hard to say that it's options for a turn around are as exhausted as the Vita's.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
It's still soon for lines pictures. While we wait, here you have some pretty Pokémon X and Y lines

http://www.vooks.net/pokemon-x-y-now-sale-australia-hundreds-line-midnight-launches/

In Australia

''Lines were the biggest in Melbourne where at 9pm, three hours before launch there were already around 300 people in line. The line then grew from there down nearly a whole city block, we’ll attempt to get final numbers in the morning. According to those at the event there was even more people than at the GTAV launch.''

DAMN! I never realized the popularity of the Pokemon series was to that extent. Alot of adults in those lines too.

It's just that this is the smallest niche we've seen in ages. It wouldn't be that bad if developers were making games for it, it's largely a indie and port system these days. This is not what Vita was supposed to be.

I think that Mh completely tipped the scale into 3ds favor to the point where it is completely destroying the Vita, especially now that Pokemon is coming out right after MonHon.

We have two o the biggest games coming out on the 3ds just when the Vita needed to really make a turn around. This holiday season Vita will be anhailated- Vita needs to have some amazing games in the first 6 months of 2014 when things are quieter for the 3 DS just for some exposure.

It's just... GameCube's strongest point was actually its exclusive library. Plus it got plenty of multiplat stuff. Suddenly GameCube looks like a healthy, successful platform when compared to ViitaU. You need to lower your expectations hardcore to think ViitaU is doing okay.

Well, going off TGS:

Platforms:

iOS/Android: 24
PS3: 21
Vita: 20
3DS: 13
PS4: 6
Wii U: 5
Browser: 3
PC: 1
Wii: 1
Xbox One: 1

Sure, most of them are multi-plats, but japanese 3rd-party support isn't that bad.

Anyone know the launch aligned ratio of sales / projections for Vita and WiiU? I guess this could give an idea of what they "were supposed to be", at least according to the manufacturers.

So you proved my point? Keep those ports coming, they're not harmful or anything, but don't ever expect Vita to take off (and by take off I mean being a slightly healthier below-GCN platform worldwide).

I missed some visual novels and stuff for the Vita in those counts, though they were low profile titles obviously.

But yeah I'd consider there to be about maybe a couple of high profile games that mostly appeal to people who have or will soon have the system (since they're things like God Eater or Phantasy Star).

And speaking of which, I hope Nintendo has some thing lined up in 2014 cause those two games won't hold for 2 years. The next PM and MH will take time to make and Sony will be left with that window of time rebuild and solidify new Ips like Tokeden, SS, Freedom wars, GR, or whatever during that timeframe. Remember, it took 4 year to create the monster that is MH.

I don't know why some people keep saying this. 3DS has bigger and more games than VITA has in 2014. Where is this "timeframe" when it's supposed to be weak?

its pretty crazy really, the new harvest moon will undoubtedly outsell anything released on vita next year

The time when it goes back to 50k numbers and everything else is back to <20k.

I think that everyone knows and have accepted (not much alternative really) the current Vita and WiiU situation. The sales numbers dont lie. But there are disagreement about what the future holds.

It's 6:00 a.m. in Japan, I'm coming back from Shinjuku (night party) and 10 people were lining in front of Bic Camera in Ikebukuro (opens at 7:30).

Too bad I need to rest and I'm not able to take some photos :(

you know there was a 3ds harvest moon released last year right and it didn't outsell p4g

well on pure retail sales the last figure we had harvest moon is slightly ahead, obviously this doesn't factor in sales from this year or digital

yeah I am inclined to give persona the benefit of the doubt that its outsold harvest moon overall though I doubt by much but nothing on vita since seems to have some close to p4g's sales and i'm also fairly bullish on the new harvest moons prospects to outsell the last one

But no worries, I'm sure Famitsu and and Inside Games will post some pics. :)

I was using famitsu which has p4g a couple of k ahead :p

my point was though that vitas 2014 is looking alot better than its 2012 already

Sony mentioned that when people own a vita, they love it and that's what they're banking on.
I really don't know why people always bring this up as if it means anything. It's the same thing for the Wii UPad and how magical and wonderful it is once you try it in your home.

Even setting aside that there's probably a heavy dose of post-purchase rationalisation weighing into the "love" it doesn't make it a good product for the wider market.

Sony doesn't have faith in the Vita as a standalone product going forward, it's being re-purposed as a PS4 accessory, and rightly so, because it's ultimately going to be a tiny niche product in Japan and a dead product everywhere else. The $99 Vita TV is basically it's best bet for survival.

Pokemon X/Y are now at #5/6 of the recent charts. At #1 there is MH4 and the places inbetween are all games that are part of the buy two, get a third game for free campaign.

1. MH4
2. Zelda 3D
3. Mario Tennis Open
4. Fire Emblem Awakening
5. Pokemon X
6. Pokemon Y

In other words, Pokemon and MH4 are the best *selling* eShop games of the last few weeks already. Edit: #2-4 are reward games and have actually fallen on the weekly charts.

Nintendo timed that deal really well lol.

The Umans won't accept that XD

To be fair is not just that segment of gaming's demographic most fans have an irrational love for their object of affection and won't handle the ever so slight negative comment.

On topic: Are we expecting world breaking records for Pokemon?

Edit: Good to see more women than in similar cases for these release XD
