Well what did Nintendo draw from Sin & Punishment 2 being a nuclear bomb and Wii Party selling well? We're still getting niche destined-to-be-hardcore bombs and we're still getting accessible mainstream multiplayer games.

If Iwata projected half as much, partners might still apply a half cut on it, and it would look bad. As it stands it looks good, gives confidence and that's what Iwata tries to get. If he's wrong, he will still have Mario Kart 8 and whatever other system seller they will announce for next year to keep the confidence in Wii U's potential alive.

Well, I hope they keep producing those bombs. Sin and Punishment was likely a much cheaper game to make than W101, X or Bayonetta.

If we're not even getting Star Fox or Metroid, dead franchises like Wave Race and 1080 are a little unlikely IMO...

It's definitely bullish, but then it also opens questions. Does that mean Iwata plan to release Mario Kart before the end of the fiscal year? Another system seller that has yet to be announced? A new balance board kind of peripheral/surprise hit? Iwata obviously know things we don't, and he tries to bank on it, bluff or not. I wouldn't totally rule out Nintendo being able to achieve half of their target, with a cautious question mark on anything above it. Still better to have that question mark, as far as investments on this platform are concerned. If it can help greenlight a handful of 3rd party projects on the platform, Iwata made a good call.

It's quite confusing actually. I thought that the general consensus was that the Wii U was primarly selling to the hardcore Nintendo fans, but with Wii Party U outperforming WWHD (and W101, but yeah), I'm not sure which demographic is actually buying the console at this point.

Probably a little from column A, a little from column B. Don't see why it would be restricted to one or the other.

Yep, it looks like the handhelds are going to kill it this holiday. It's good to see more platforms do better. I would like Wii U to at least manage to stay above 20k until January, but I suspect it will drop to around 15k next week.

This makes no sense. All analysts are saying Nintendo is crazy and you can bet 3rd parties think the same thing. Nintendo could say they are going to make apple like profits and doesn't mean anyone will believe them.

At this point I dread to see what DQ11 has become. It will probably remove everything I actually adore about that series. But still I think FF15 and KH3 are still high production.

In a recent interview with Activision’s UK managing director Roy Stackhouse, which we’ll publish a video of later today, we asked their reasons for supporting what some would consider an unworthy venture, and if they’d be evaluating their stance in the future.

If anything, that makes it worse, and is likely a key factor in the WiiU's problems.

People heavy into gaming have little reason to buy a WiiU if they aren't big fans of Nintendo. Current gen consoles have huge libraries and are cheaper, while next-gen consoles are more powerful and will have solid third-party support. People who aren't big gamers, meanwhile, have less incentive to buy a dedicated gaming machine than they did in '06.

Nor is Nintendo itself doing much to leverage the Gamepad as a solid differentiator. I've yet to see or hear anything about what it adds to their biggest upcoming titles, like Smash, 3D World, or MK8. It'll be difficult to make the value argument as long as that's the case, to put it mildly.

My assumption is that he's going to wait and see what happens over the holidays, and will revise it afterwards based on what happens then. He doesn't want to spread downgrade pessimism to people who count (ie., investors and retailer purchasing depts.) before he knows just how much to dole out.

Let's be clear, it would take a miracle for Wii U to sell as much as Iwata is projecting. What I'm saying is that I understand why he does that, to create a positive perspective/spiral on Wii U in tough times. It can only help the console. If it deceives investors, so be it. It seems Iwata puts the console positive spiral above it, and i think he's right doing it.
