That post was actually by a SE employee lol.
It was on the Playstation blog right? Then S-E released their own press release and it said PS4/XB1 or something. Really terrible communication failure.

Square Enix's Vita support is just perplexing. They were there at launch with a cross-gen Lord of Arcana sequel and a low budget original game. I feel Lord of Apocalypse did as well a sequel to Lord of Arcana could, but Army Corps bombed. Then they tried to ignore that Final Fantasy X HD was a thing they announced. Then that came out and sold well. Then Vita became the phone port factory. I guess Million Arthur is doing okay, Chaos Rings flopped and TBA on the other things. Then they announced SaGa is happening. It's such a weird lineup of content that's all over the place in origin, and stuff you'd think would make sense to release (DQH, DQ phone ports, FFDim, FF phone "remakes", etc. + prediction: Dissidia and FF XII HD) isn't being released.
Right now it looks like Sony has buried Vita in Japan, too. I was actually surprised Persona 4 DAN is getting a wide-release LE handheld since the last game that got one of those was FF X|X-2 HD in 2013.
There wasn't any hype for ALBW. When holidays rush died it died too.
MM 3D was a Saturday release by the way, OOT 3D and ALBW released on Thursday.
Why was there no hype for ALBW anyways =(? It was a brilliant game imo too and the first 2D Zelda in a while.

Exactly because it was a 2D Zelda.
I think Tabata did address that. It seems like the answer is the same as FFXV. Now that's not to say that Type-0 could not have been ported to Vita, obviously it could since the original was on PSP, but I think this is really a matter of technical efficiency. If their development process for a game allows it to be on both PS4 and XB1 easily, then there's little reason not to release it on both in markets where it would sell anyway.
Even if it does like 500k on PS4 and 100k on XB1 for example, the minimal effort makes it a net benefit for them. On the other hand, if they wanted it on Vita, there would be more specific effort put into developing that, and even if a Vita version sells more in Japan, it might not be worth that extra effort. That's how I see it from S-E's perspective. The development process they are using for Type-0 HD is clearly not easily compatible with the Vita or it would have happened.
That's a weird statement when the best selling Zeldas in Japan in the past decade were 2D Zeldas.
PS4 YTD > PSV YTD
2015 - Year of the PS4
So...seeing Xbox One drop to the hundreds, makes me beg the question. How low does Xbox One have to sell for MC and Famitsu to stop tracking it?
Today's releases {2015.02.19}
[XB1] Halo: The Master Chief Collection <Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Halo 2 Anniversary Halo 3 Halo 4> [Xbox One Special Edition] <ACT> (Microsoft Game Studios) (¥43.178)

Sumikko Gurashi passes 100,000 (https://twitter.com/sumikko_3ds/status/568252977930043393). I wonder if they included those Famitsu digital 'sales'? :-O

Square Enix support for handhelds has been erratic. Of course 3DS got the best games, especially because of Dragon Quest games, but their support to both handhelds pales in comparison to what they have done to DS and PSP, and their games outside Dragon Quest and KH3D have been mostly experiments instead of games they'd likely release for such platforms (games out of their franchises and established genres, rhythm games, MH-like without polish, etc).
At this time, it looks like SE is just using handhelds to generate some money to fund their mobile endeavours. I can see them releasing less and less traditional games as their mobile games start generating more money. They will likely retain FF, DQ, Eidos and can the rest.
PS4 Terraria will save Spike Chunsoft.
Good job Japan. Buy that Majora's Mask.
Should outsell the N64 version within a few weeks lol.
PS4 Vs Vita YTD sales could actually be interesting to watch
You sure about that? The first week sales are notably lower, so it's behind at the moment. I mean it'd be great to see, since the N64 version's sales potential was stifled somewhat, but I wouldn't be so confident.

Will PS4 hit 2 million this year?
almost certainly, considering how I think it will catch Wii U's LTD by the end of the year/early next year.
It still up in the air what PS4 has in the latter half of the year. So far I'm guessing FF Dissidia, DDO, Hot Shots Golf, Gundam, Persona 5, MGSV and Tales of Zestiria f. Tekken 7 could make it.

2014 was slightly down from 2013.Yeah, 2014 was the last year of growth for PSV.

That's my optimistic outlook. It wouldn't be up to MM N64 though, which sold >600k.If the game has the usual Zelda legs, it should break the 500k mark without problems. It's also supply constrained, so this should help.
Eh. Before the DS games was Minish Cap which sold <250k. You could say the DS games actually boosted 2D style Zelda as ALBW is still well over that. I'm still shocked at how badly Minish Cap performed. This is true. I wonder if it's possible then that those titles somewhat poisoned the 2d Zelda well in Japan considering Spirit Track's dropoff from Phantom Hourglass. Otherwise, it just seems strange then that ALBW performed like it did.
Every company's support pales in comparison to what they have done to DS and PSP. It's not only SQEX, it's everyone in the industry. SQEX was using handhelds to generate money to fund other platforms' games back then as well; DS saw a lot of shovelware (relative to SQEX production, of course), such as a huge amount of FF spin-offs (many of which were quite forgettable), terrible Mana games, and a lot of "experiments" as well.
Also, you might want to rephrase: "Square Enix support for handhelds has been erratic." into "Square Enix support for 3DS has been overall good given the period, while support for PSV has been pretty terrible, basically non-existent".
It won't pass the Wii U's LTD by then. But why is this even a thing? It will pass the Wii U at some point, you'd imagine.
The PS4 is just coming up on one year in Japan. The WiiU has been out a little over a year longer. Shouldn't we be comparing the PS4's numbers to the WiiU's first year numbers rather than LTD at this point? I think PS4 is ahead of WiiU in first year sales, IIRC.
Terrible games and forgettable spin-offs on DS that sold more than the "great support" on 3DS. If you think 3DS support has been "overall good given the period", it is your problem. For me, if you exclude Dragon Quest, it is bad, and has nothing to do with the fact that some companies release less games now than during DS generation.
No, the PS4 has sold 1,118,805 units in it's first 52 weeks now. The Wii U sold 1,219,474 in that time.
Then came the Wii U's second Christmas, and by week 57 it was at 1,576,701. So it's going to take the PS4 a while to overtake.

Don't we still have another week before its 52 weeks? I thought the PS4 released in Japan last year around Feb 20? So wouldn't there be another week of sales to be added to the PS4s number before calling it 52 weeks?
would this change something?

EDIT: Yep, it was released on 2/22. So we don't have numbers for its first 52 weeks yet.

The way these blog posts seem to work is that the third party writes the body of the post, but the various regions social media teams write the title (because you often see the same PR piece on the US and EU PlayStation blogs with different titles). The body of the Type-0 post never mentioned the platform, so whoever was manning the US blog at the time (while the blog manager was at E3) must have assumed it was for Vita and posted it in a rush to get all the E3 news up.It was on the Playstation blog right? Then S-E released their own press release and it said PS4/XB1 or something. Really terrible communication failure.
Noticed someone talk bad about DQX online pages ago
It's no.1 subscription MMO in Japan
It's doing ok
The funniest thing about Type-0 HD and Vita is still the way it was announced during E3. Sony was so sure it was a Vita game! Square Enix had other plans! Roflmao.
