"Vinnk's Village" Anecdotal Report
Hello all. What an exciting time to be a gamer. New hardware set to revive the struggling Japanese console market or put another nail into the coffin of dedicated gaming. No new hardware out yet, but A few impressions.

Mr. Max
Went out of business since the last Vinnk's Village Report
Book-Net
Went out of business since the last Vinnk's Village Report
Goody
Became primarily a second-hand shop.
Wii U Hardware: 1 system. White 8gb.
Switch Section? Yes? There is a corner with posters. Again since they are promarily second-hand I am not sure if they will get systems.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? They don't take them.
Best Denki
Wii U Hardware: No systems and removed they place they would be. Small WiiU Game section still remains.
Switch Section? Yes.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? Yes.
Wanpaku
Wanpaku want out of business and was replaced by a store called Game@Net
Wii U Hardware: Yes, 3 used. 0 New
Switch Section? Yes.
Switch Pre-orders sold out? Yes, since the first day they were available.
Famicom Dojo
No longer sells new hardware. Otherwise I would have bought mine there. But they will sell used Switch games and systems in the future. Owners are very happy that Nintendo decided to use carts. They are much more resilient in the used market.
Yamada Denki
I was not on this side of town this week. They were sold out of the Switch for some time. But I cannot 100% confirm that they are sold out of pre-orders now.
Since last report was got a Book-Off in Town, so I'll add that:
Book Off
Wii U Hardware: Yes, 4 used units. And they are still selling for almost retail price.
Switch Section? No. [but since they are mostly a used item shop it's not too surprising]
Switch Pre-orders sold out? No pre-orders.
NOTES:
1. For those who didn't follow Media Create 10 years ago, this "report" was a collection of anecdotal evidence I would put out each week covering the stores in my small town in Japan. I knew a lot of the shop owners pretty well and many of them would let me count the stock they had of various hardware and software. The data was not very useful on it's own but people could extrapolate or compare it from week to week.
2. The Switch hype reminds me of the time before the Wii. In fact, it was hard to get the one photo I have because there was so much foot traffic and people wanting to look over the game boxes. People are talking about this system, and not just the otaku gamers.
3. Television ads have been running on popular programs. Matsuko DX, Itte Q, etc. and they feature celebrities who my wife recognizes (even if I don't). I can't, off the top of my head, even remember the ads for the WiiU systems (though I remember the ads for Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D world). So this feels like an improvement. Still less than the Wii though.
4. Xbox One might as well not exist. Only Yamada Denki and Wanpaku have systems (or a single system in the case of Wanpaku) and only Yamada, Best, and Wanpaku have games. Well Book-Off has a single copy of Dead Rising 3 if that counts as a section. This is sad because the 360, while not a chart-topper, had floor space at all the game stores (though not prime space).
5. Prime spaces at stores are: 3DS and PS4 at Departments stores (Jusco, Youme). PS4, 3DS and Vita at the game stores. Switch displays are near the fronts of the stores for now but it will remain to be seen where they settle after release.
6. I have 3 kids now so I can't say this report is coming back on a weekly basis, but I'll do my best to do a few more of them during this exciting time.
7. As I type this report up I have a strong feeling that there is little if any useful information to be found in it. But thank you for allowing me to share.
