I'm plenty calm lol. No, it doesn't matter that much, but I've noticed a tendency for some people to use this thread as a place to come and bitch about the conduct of unnamed others, and people applauding bans. And that's fine, by all means in the Meta thread, get meta. I just don't understand people here sometimes. I'm not sure I've ever once wanted a person banned from this community, not even members I strongly dislike. I put them on ignore and that's the end of it. For such an open and tolerant place, it's weird to me how many people I see applaud bans and take issue with the conduct of others.

Well, that isn’t me. I was content to watch him mocked into being a normal person. That said, I kind of get it, and came in here to provide my take why I think it happened, to people specifically asking why it happened?

In defense of people like that, I think that’s a completely okay thing. A little piece of this forum, in an emotional sense, belongs to every member on this forum. Of course there’s a lot of opinions about how to keep it great, make it better, criticisms, and sometimes those are about people.

If I hover over his name on the ban page (or anywhere), his profile card still pops up, with number of messages visible and clickable. Clicking it takes you to a list of all of his posts. This isn't working for you?

Thank you. I always really appreciate when two people can talk something out like this, with give and take, and reach an understanding. For the longest time, I didn’t see that... anywhere, yet it keeps happening to me on this forum.

It's more like the vibe and insincerity of the posts that come into question I think is what the mods ascertain. This pattern becomes clear when most posts are basically provoking the other user and/or ending with questions to "catch" or "bait" their replies.

Yeah, even if clicking on their username gives the “oops, this doesn’t exist” message, you can still search for their username and see all their posts in most cases.

The one thing I notice and really appreciate in the last 6 months of voluntarily (note: I was never banned in other places) choosing Gaf over other places...

People really want to build bridges here with other members. What's even more impressive is this is not by the usual socio-political lines rampant on the internet. Other than the love of gaming and open discussion/debate, that's it as far as a consensus. That is so fucking awesome. Give me a free and open place to disagree any day over my own personal echo chamber run by authoritarians.

I think this serves as a nice answer to people proposing Gaf is an echo chamber, when others don’t agree with their shitty hot takes. All it takes is a great, thoughtful, well-written point.
