Metroid Prime 4: Beyond showcase at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will allegedly “blow everything else in the direct out of the water”

Hell yes. This is why I need a Switch 2.
Hopefully it's released along with the console.
Ever since last June I’m still of the mind that this has long been planned to be the “BotW” of the Switch 2 launch. Day and date on both consoles. Looks/ runs better on the new one. 🤷‍♂️

Of course since Metroid doesn’t have nearly the same pull/reach as Zelda does, there needs to be more there on launch day than just Metroid and a 1-2 Switch-like party game. But I also think Metroid Prime 4 is gonna blow all previous Metroid games out of the water, sales-wise. It’s poised to be the biggest release the series has ever seen, by far. Especially if Nintendo pitches it as the flagship launch day game for the hardcore early adopters. Which I think is likely. It would make sense to set up Mario Kart for June/July and save the big 3D Mario for October.

Because dragging a crosshair with an analog stick is so cool, wow.
Metroid Prime 3 would’ve been better on a GameCube controller. Hands down. For the same reason controllers today still use the exact same dual analog setup as Halo from 2001. It works. Everyone likes it. Don’t mess with it.

Sales-wise, Metroid Prime 3 was disappointing, being that was on a system that had an install base that was five times bigger than GameCube. And also because they shoe-horned in gameplay mechanics that added nothing other than making the game require the Wiimote for minor trivial things that did nothing to improve the experience. They could’ve easily allowed the use of the GameCube controller. Like they did with SSB Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. It was a deliberate choice.

I care much more that the gameplay for Metroid prime. The metroid prime remaster graphics in 4K HDR 60 fps would be good enough for me on Switch 2.

I want Metroid Prime 1 & 2 greatness in level design and I'll be happy.

“Haven’t got much else to show”? 🤔 What do you know that the rest of us don’t? Been 10 months since the last Direct, and very few major first-party EPD-developed games since 2022/2023. Everything would seem to point to it being the opposite of what you’re saying.
This is Nintendo who can only handle a handful of In-House games every few years.

Yeah. Switch 2 launch isn't going to have much to show.
If it is anything like the last Switch launch, that be quite right

This is not encouraging at all. Metroid Prime 4 already looks years behind it’s peers and barely stands out on Switch 1. What does this mean for the capabilities of the new system?

??? They’ve clearly slowed their internal output the past couple years. They’re clearly holding things back for the new system. I don’t understand how this is even like an argument to have.

It’s the same thing every Nintendo console cycle. And double true now that they only have one system to support. 🤷‍♂️

Works like shit for immersion and like poop for efficiency, that is why we still have pathetic aim assist(s). 🤷‍♂️
I think if you took a poll the vast majority of users would prefer the modern dual stick controls in every game (particularly first-person) to what the interface was in a game like Metroid Prime 3. I played it. It… wasn’t great. The logic to it made sense on paper but it just really wasn’t great. Quite honestly. The quality of the game was poorer as a result. I think that’s clearly the general sense of the game even 18 years later.

People shit taste on controls/gameplay don't affect factual better controls/gameplay. There is nothing preventing at least optional motion controls.

if any studio can show off raytracing in an early Switch 2 game, it will be Retro.

what they did with past Nintendo hardware borders on magic. and the Prime remaster is basically the best looking Switch game while also running at 60fps on top of that.

we have aim assist because most people suck at shooters.

if a game has well implemented controller aiming with good settings to adjust them, you don't need aim assist, especially not in a single player game. (you don't need it in MP either, but you can't just put yourself at a disadvantage by turning it off if it exists... although some do it for fun)

Why I can't??

I mean... if you want to... do it. some people do it for fun.
I've seen Apex Legends players on PC do it to challenge themselves, and after a week or so they can pretty much keep up well enough to not really need it anymore, even tho they are of course at a disadvantage compared to other controller players that keep it on.

I believe it. Nintendo truly views the Metroid Prime series as a prestige series and cancelled the previous iteration of the game due to quality issues. They were very public about their reasoning for doing that.

Nintendo fanbase have such low standards, you can show a PS3 era game for them and will be blown away to stratosphere.

A benefit of being a decade behind technologically.

better to have low standards for graphics than having low standards for game design, like most other system fanbases have these days.

Considering how long this title has been talked about and it seems to have ben in development for nearly as long as Metroid Dread ....if it didn't look up to scratch then it makes you wonder what has been going on all these years...

And yet they are a millennia in front when it comes to introducing new gameplay mechanics into videogames....

Subjective. Remove the rose tinted glasses and you will find Nintendo games on par with others. Its just they held to a lesser standard by critics.

Always wanted to get into the Metroid series but never could. I did tried and beat Metroid Prime on the Gamecube long ago but it was never at that. Always wish they evolve and did something different like making the story more grand with Samus being able to talk with other characters in the story. I know Other M was like that but that game was a small budget side scrolling side game rather than a high budget mainline. Something like a huge budget and Other M combined with be what I'll want them to do.
