Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Wait a minute... Sega had no involvment w/ development of the port or the publishing?!

Sega handed the development of the Xbox version to Sumo Digital in the UK and will publish the game in Europe. MS only publishes the game in the US, a bit like they do with Team Ninja games in Europe.

Edit: Bleh :D

Isn't this old news??? I thought outrun 2 was at MS's booth at E3.
So was just about every other major title on Xbox (including EA's XBL line-up). Outrun 2 was also in Sega's booth with some "For Europe Only" bullshit. Good to hear MS has flipped the bill for the U.S.

So like I said, Sega didn't develop the port, and they're not publishing the game in the US. Fuck, have times changed...

An Outrun game not on a Sega console, not ported by them and not published by them (in the US).

Damn.

The Outrun property is all that Sega has left as far as the Sega of old. Games that shaped my youth. After this, there's nothing I'm really looking forward to other than Dororo.

Sega didn't do the porting for Sega Rally 2 on Dreamcast either. But they did publish is obviously.
Sega ported it inhouse, it just wasn't the same team who did the arcade original.

geez are you guys all blind when it comes to the various OR2 topics there have been? At e3, it wasnt confirmed for US because it had no publisher yet MS had it in their booth. I'm guessing because of reactions at e3, MS had picked it up shortly after. its scheduled for release somewhere between 10/13 and 10/23 for 39.95 with LIVE play and addtl courses(i smell mirror/reverse)although in a recent interview nagoshi said there may be a BIG suprise in the new courses for sega fans. some guessed possible daytona courses(no daytona oval if they pull this off, EA has the liscence). There will also be 100 mini games ala crazy taxi also playable on live.

wtf, why is everyone treating this as a surprise? If you show a game at E3, it's gonna be released (unless it's obscure Jap import crap or Duke Nukem Forever).

there's been quite a bit more shown at E3 over the years that never released... but in this case, people were unsure cause they specifically labeled it europe only at the time. But yeah, I agree, no big surprise, just don't think people stupid.

Didn't Genki port it? I don't think Genki was in-house...since they made the TXR games and they weren't published by SEGA.

Sega didn't port it because they thought it wouldn't make money. They aren't publishing it because they don't think it'll make money. Nothing wrong with that, because I believe the same thing. Nobody cares about Outrun anymore. Now some people are going to say "I do.", but you mean nothing. You're nobody.

I *suppose* I can wait 3 months.

Congratulations, Sega. You just gave me a reason to buy an XBox instead of bumming my friend's about once a year.

I will freely admit that I'm one of the ten people in the U.S. that cares about Outrun. So? ;)

In fact, Kikizo.com revealed that Microsoft would publish the game in North America some time ago.

See link: http://games.kikizo.com/news/200407/019.asp

Kikizo published a comment accidentaly made in an interview about the planned North American release from Microsoft, but was subsequently asked to remove that part of the interview as it was confidential. Don't believe us? Just check here... In other words, this Sega/Microsoft arrangement has ben in the bag ever since E3, when that interview was carried out. It's just reassuring to know that it was always going to happen, don't you think?

They also say they'll be first with the scoop on the new tracks,

Still to come, more definitive details of the mythical new Xbox tracks in the game, which as AM2's Osaki-san revealed in the interview, will be something really special. From what we've been hearing, he's not joking either. Obviously, keep it Kikizo for the first details of that.

Hmmm.

Oh yea, they posted three new screens as well.

HOLY SHIT I just read that!!! 8 FUCKING PLAYERS!!!!! This just went from "pretty cool" to "GAME OF THE FUCKING YEAR"!!!

Great news all around. I'm hoping that Sega's nice enough to have Retubo do arcade perfect ports of Outrun, Turbo Outrun, and Outrunners...

Nope, Smilebit (then AM6) ported Sega Rally 2 to both DC and PC. Genki did do a lot of DC ports for Sega however (VF3tb, Virtua Striker 2 and Daytona 2001).
