Demo is coming today, reviews as well. First one from Gamereactor.

6/10...twice. I really hope that's wrong. They criticise the controls which is frightening...

However, Pacific Rift was criminally underrated, even worse than the first Motorstorm. PR is my racing game of the gen so far and easily a 9+. I really hope that there will be better reviews in the future...

Nevermind Gamereactor though!

"Possibly the greatest arcade racer ever devised!"

Just saw that gamereactor.dk gave the last one 6/10 as well. They've got to be kidding me. Either they don't know what a good racing game is or they just didn't play it. What the hell. Relieved to see better reviews from other sites. Puh!

I'd like to hope not. The only one I have played is the first and it was a frustrating bastard of a game.

Metacritic summary:
Because of its name it's fitting that MotorStorm: Apocalypse is somewhat of a rebirth for the series, and the racing feels fresher than ever. It may have lost a bit of its identity whilst borrowing so much from Split\Second, but the apocalyptic city setting is so strong that it doesn't matter. The best MotorStorm game yet.

8/10

What did if have over Pacific Rift?

I thought the 2nd one crapped all over the first

thesixhaxis review 8/10
This works brilliantly – the tracks evolve gradually over the storyline, new routes appear (and old ones become obstructed) and a few, like the Boardwalk track, show just what Evolution are capable of in terms of – literally – breathtaking visuals as the second and third iterations appear. The courses are also really well designed: they’re all varied enough to be distinct but consistent enough to be part of the same city, even when they’re flicking between dockland, parks and massive long bridges – they’re definitely better than anything we’ve seen from the series before and the balancing period the developers must have gone through has resulted in some truly memorable and utterly raceable courses.

After all the "MS1 is still the best MS game" posts for the past few weeks, I decided to dig out my copy and try it. Seriously, some of you have some pretty fucking strong nostalgia glasses on; Pacific Rift is a gazillion times better than the first game which doesn't hold up that well anymore. Can't wait for this game, though the Eurogamer review doesn't mention anything about (possible) rubberbanding.

Having put about 10 hours of play time into this already, I can say that anyone that scores the game 6 out of 10 is taking the piss. Fans of the series have nothing to worry about as it's every bit as fun as Pacific Rift. The only thing I'm not fond of is the needless inclusion of a story in single player. I can't comment on the multiplayer as I haven't touched it but if the single player doesn't take a dive in quality from what I've played so far, an 8 out of 10 score seems perfectly justified.

"Racing seems to take a back seat"

Do you agree with that? I thought PR was all about competent racing.

From reading these reviews it makes you wonder what Evo would have to do to get a score over 8! The game sounds great with an incredible set of features, and reviewers seem to be struggling to find things to complain about.

Are these games still using cheap, rubber band AI like the first? As much as I like race carnage, the AI killed the first experience for me.

The second game still uses (infuriating) rubberbanding, and no one has clarified whether or not this game still uses it, although the devs themselves say they have tweaked the AI (which I doubt unless I see it for myself).

That's why I stopped playing the second one pretty quickly and that's why this is probably not a day 1. Even the TSA guys mention cheap rubberbanding. :(

Thesixhaxis said the game is easier than the other games but there still rubberband AI.

This is the only racer I care about coming this year and it's actually one of my most anticipated games of the year period. I'm just as excited about this game as I am for Portal 2 for fucks sake. Sadly, it doesn't pay to be a dumb, fat American this time (and thats saying something since I LOVE being dumb and fat) since I have to wait until April to play this.

Can somebody please confirm wheel support so I can put in my pre-order. Thanks.

I never even heard of that till now, which shows how good their marketing is.

It's suppose to come out April 30 but will probably be delayed. Come to think of it, I don't think they've released anything since E3.

Well, as long as the later stages aren't borderline impossible like in Pacific Rift, then I don't mind a little bit of rubberbanding to put pressure on the player. As long as they can't boost past you even if you drive perfectly then great!

Have any of the previous Driver games been any good? I've only played 1 and 2.

It still uses infuriating rubberbanding according to the Gamesaktuell review.

MSA is much easier than Pacific Rift, it's also a tad short. Still, great great fun. Our review is being translated, but you can watch our videos (including split screen 2p and 3p) at least I guess, so link to the French version:

Rubberbandind is incredibly obvious at the lower difficulty races, you get a challenge in the first laps, and in the last lap you leave everyone in the dust. It gets better afterwards, thankfully.

Although you may get the odd lucky break due to the changing environment you still have to race well to stand a chance of winning. With the rookie character I won all but one of the races first time but by the time I started the second character's races, it was taking me up to a dozen tries to get first place. The changing environments are usually very impressive the first couple of times you see them and it can be slightly overwhelming at first but once you're on your 6th or 7th retry you stop paying as much attention to the big set pieces and concentrate on how best to win the race.

All relies on whether the AI is as rubberbanding as it was in 1 & 2. If it is they can shove it where the sun don't shine. If it's better, i'll buy it.

Great to hear, and curious about your translated review!

Sounds good. Can you compare it to PR in terms of sheer racing excitement?
