Motorstorm Apocalypse Review thread

That's a nice suggestion, thanks. The OT will go up tonight (a couple of hours from now), had some formatting issues and I have to leave now so no time to fix them. It's almost ready!

Sidzed2: Yeah, please act like my obviously general response was directed exactly at you in your fucking bedroom whacking it as we speak. Yeah, dude, I'll get a life when you fuckjobs show some compassion and constructive criticism towards a game. 7.5 is a fucking C. This game ain't a fucking average game chiefton. What the hell is average about this game. The graphics looks better than GT5 to me and yes I understand GT5 is a 50FPS game with horrrendous tearing ;).

If all these Dbag reviewers want to start using their depleted grade scale on these PS3 games then do me a favor and use it on every fucking game you review. Obviously, my post has nothing to do with you guy. It's a general post to all the reviewers looking for hits. The Ps3 has been this hitbag this whole generation for no other reason than people like something to shout about when the exact opposite is true. Tell me I wrote your fucking name on my post and directed my comments at you. You are welcome to your opinion. It don't mean much unless its constructive and critical and I wouldn't know would I cuz I never heard of you and never read your review. Think before you speak or don't speak at all because what you said had no bearing at all on my post. World doesn't revolve around you and I wasn't generalizing every bad review just most of the major gaming sites whether bad or good (if they don't show any reasoning then fuck they might as well be some shitty blog and they pretty much are) as it is plain as day that PS3 exc. are getting the shit end when other FAR lesser games are rated way beyond their scope and polish. Don't connect me with your own emotions. Your review may be well and good. It could also be construed as bullshit I haven't read it nor do I want to unless it's in depth and serious.

It's posts like this + the hyperbole that really makes this thread worth reading ;)

What i don`t get with some of these early ( before game is released) reviews is that how can you give a full detailed review of a game without what i consider to be the main element of motorstorm, namely the online multiplayer!

Some more screens;

I'm loving this so far - had to change the control scheme to original though, I can't stop pressing circle to handbrake, which under the new control scheme just slams you into the wall, lol.

The problem with apocalypse is that many people (including reviewers) made thei rmind up even before release. Setting is not motorstorm, it looks like split second, but split second is probably better.

I remember the same discussion back then, PR vs. Pure. PR was a way superior way including graphics. Many people prefered Pure, for whatever reason. PR however had great worth of mouth and still has fan (for a reason). No one is speaking of Pure anymore, though.

I get what you're saying about judging the game too early, but personally I'm just sick of the post-apocalyptic theme this generation. When the first screens came out I found myself bored just looking at them. I know they've done the desert, and they've done an island, and now they want to move to the city ... but I can't help but feel a sense of deja-vu. As well, at least going from the demo, scripted track destruction doesn't do it for me. Seeing that building with the pipe collapse was cool, but after the tenth time it just became boring.

That being said, I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong. When this puppy gets released in Canada I'll be there to rent it. But I can't help approaching this Motorstorm a bit warily.

It's not post apocalyptic, it's apocalyptic. I never had the sense of immersion like here. No comparison to games like Gears, Fallout and the likes. There are some truly outstanding scenarios like the one with the skyscrapers. That's something you never experienced in a racing game before. Also the most important thing is there, the trackdesign. There is a lot of variation and it's just fun to race.

You are right though about the repetition. Just from the demo it really seems like it could be boring. However, in the final version there is so much stuff going on, some of it subtle, other things track changing and it's always random, you need many many hours to know those by heart. It's more ilke it's keeping you on your toes all the time instead of "oh I know this track, I'll drive it with blind eyes". And witht the CPU or online there is always new hilarious stuff happening because of this interactivity. I think they knew what they were doing.

Agreed. What does kind of annoy me though, is when you drive through a smoke cloud and end up driving into a wrecked car or something because there was simply no way to see it and avoid it. It feels kind of unfair and frustrating when the reason for crashing is not a lack of skill, but an obscured view. There's a bit too much crap scattered about the tracks in some cases.

Similar to news already issued from our Japanese and European territories, SCEA can confirm that we are officially delaying release of MotorStorm Apocalypse from its scheduled April 12th date. We will provide more information regarding release timing at a later date.

those who already have the game, are multiplayer tracks like SP game (destruction and so on) or just regular tracks like PR or first motorstorm.¿? i'd love some classic motorstorm gaming too if possible.

I hope they fix the ramming with bikes and ATV's. And by fix I mean remove it completely. Not knowing whether you're going to dash violently to the side or simply swing a fist is just stupid. Or at the very least, let us do one or the other, like a double tap for a ram and a single tap for a punch. I've crashed so many times while trying to punch the guy next to me. Also, for the love of god patch in the bunny hop from Pacific Rift! Why on earth was it removed?

Yeah, disliked that in the demo. Ram on a bike seems stupid anyway, should just be the punch like in Road Rash.

OMG the Tokyo line in the cut-scene I just watched! lol You'd think that would be something they would patch out.

Yeah, I raised an eyebrow or two to that one... "There goes Tokyo".

(It's just a model city which gets kicked down by an irritated girl.)

I guess this is what they get for putting goddamn cutscenes in a Motorstorm game. Great idea, brah.

Disappointed with the delay but the game still sounds cool, I have enough to play right now anyways.

Well I went to pick up my pre-order from my local blockbuster and the guy refused to sell it to me even though they had them in, bloody annoying, he said 1st of April, is that confirmed date for the uk/eu now?

Hopefully this means they'll cut out all cut-scenes, all the western anime and "story" and replace it with a good Pacific Rift style campaign.

The time between races online is sooooooooooo loooooooooooooong. Needs fixing pronto.

Came 13th out of 15 in my first race \o/

In my defence, it was a track I hadn't played yet and I crashed about 15 times.

I took some videos tonight. They are tracks that won't have been seen in previews and promos before. Ignore the swearing and accent. lol

This is my favourite track of the game so far. Absolutely love love love the two hairpins right after one another.

Got a little bit angry here. lol

Got confused as fuck on the first lap, here.

Really loving the game so far.

Its about 5 mins between races in multiplayer right now. This should be quicker. It isn't and its still awesome. Damn this game is awesome. So happy I am not a reviewer. Would suck to think of reasons to justifty a number.

Really loving the game so far.

If you let go of both the Acceleration button and Boost when catching some air the engine temperature will go down quicker. ;)

I think it's even more impressive. Some scenes are just wow. The shadows are a lot smoother and the resolution is higher. Especially for the shadows. It's not a worlds difference, but it's there.

Thrakier, I've noticed you mention a couple of times that this runs in a higher resolution than the previous Motorstorm's which were both standard 1280x720 as far as I know. When I played the demo I noticed that it output as 1080p, but it didn't look native 1080p to my eyes...

Though perhaps they've incorporated some the Wipeout team's tech and it runs at 1280x1080... Maybe the 3D mode runs at native 720p and the increased 2D resolution is a bonus side effect of that?

Just curious that's all, as the demo looked great to me at whatever native res it was running at.

The game is confirmed to run @ 1280x1080 with MLAA.

i love that this game has way less jaggies than the previous two games. It's further proof for me that jaggies are graphic killers and unimmersive motherfuckers. Just watch the Wii games on the dolphin emulator. what difference a jaggy free game makes. It night and day for me.

I thought this was the official thread. I rarely go into the gaming forum, just go straight to my subscriptions. Subscribed to the official one now.
