MS shares new Xbox app mock up with a “Steam” tab

This is.. not exciting.

I can add steam games to multiple launchers I have installed on my PC. People thinking this has anything to do with consoles don't seem to understand how PC gaming works, and people calling WIndows PC's "Xbox" because MS decided to brand them that way are just buying their gaslighting marketing.

(you can also easily add your Windows Store/Xbox App installed games to Steam launcher, so not sure how many people are suddenly going to switch launchers to a crappier one over something like this)

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Way less than a lot of people here want to believe... simply a way to access Steam library using Xbox app. This way, MS can use Steam users and count them as Xbox users.
Yeah, thats the best way to 1 billion, easier access to Steam.

MS wants people buying games they publish from their store and playing through their app.
So this is a way for them to get people to play their published games through their app even if purchased through Steam? Or, do they think people will forego purchasing on steam if they have the dual storefront? Maybe I answered my own question. both I suppose.

It's definitely both. They want the Xbox App to be THE place to play/purchase anything through.

This will most likely be a Steam link app at best. Which I already have a 4K Steamlink app on my TV so this is as exciting as breathing air for me.

It's like all you non-PC gamers ignore the fact that you can add 3rd party games/accounts to pretty much any competent launcher in existence.

This is for the Xbox app on PC.
If that was true why they would have the series x and s in the picture? Even as streaming that means you already have native controller and Xbox device integrations. If it’s not just streaming then shits going to get wild real quick.

call me back when it's not at all what people are hoping it will be.

this is basically reinforcing the idea to me that nextboxes are just small form factor PCs and not an Xbox as in dedicated hardware and platform, Like all the rumors are saying.

Becuase it's consistent with this:

This is also the same company who tweeted out that Assassins creed shadows was Xbox play anywhere, when in fact it wasn't.

TBD.

I can lay out what I understand. Our man @ HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 is way out ahead on this.

At minimum, the next Xbox will play Steam store in addition to MS store. It may be a partner machine that runs on Windows and plays PC versions of all games or it may be a bespoke piece of hardware that can also play Xbox games, but either way it is likely(almost certainly) to play steam games.

This is great news for everyone buying the new box.

There are concerns. 1. How can MS keep the price of the box low if they aren't the only storefront in the box and 2. What happens to non-play everywhere BC after this generation? --- this is a major change and no one is sure how it will affect the market. However, because this move was a pivot by MS and not their original plan(some of us assume), most assume they are on their back foot here and this may not be a slam dunk. Exciting times. The hardware reveal will be huge. I can't remember, are we looking at 2027 for release?
Yeah we have talked about this for about a year here that Xbox would be able to load Steam

What’s the difference. Console hybrid PC. PC hybrid console. Sony and Xbox have been using primarily PC hardware as consoles since 2013. The only difference is the OS for the most part.

Closed ecosystem console vs open platform PC. Massive difference and it has nothing to do with the internal components. Otherwise I'd be able to install Windows on a PS5 or Xbox right now.

We have talked about Xbox being able to side load Steam and I would bet a lot of money its coming across the board

A LOT of money

Eh.....my recollection has been more on the sideloading Xbox consoles games in Windows, but if you are saying Xbox consoles, not a Windows PC, will be able to run Steam games then......holy shit.

Right, but that’s up to the console manufacturer to have it locked down and for what. At the end of the day XBOX is already running a modified Windows system as it is from my understanding.

But what I am saying is that since the hardware is essentially a pc, opening it shouldn’t be a massive technical hurdle since it uses similar components as PC. It’s not like 360/ ps3 days when it was non AMD x86 customized architecture.

Yeah I have said this before Xbox will side load Steam

I don't always agree with the dude from Lost but even he called it a while back when we were talking about it

Alright then.....I don't doubt you. Just a different recollection, but I probably misread. That's going to be a hell of a reveal then. Valve is onboard with all this too?

No, not a technical hurdle from that standpoint, but there are security measures in place in that modified version of Windows that make it a closed ecosystem. That's the only real difference that matters.

Even this image shows that Steam tab across all devices since the bigger one is on what seems to be a TV with the X and S next to it

Either the cats out of the bag or its a huge fuck up and with Xbox/MS its 50/50 which one it is

So the Xbox app will be GOG Galaxy in a way?

Not very hype.

If I want to play a game on PC I’ll go to Steam. I don’t need a weird detour through the Xbox app.
I think its more that this might be the way the next xbox works.

But agreed I couldn't care less about this as a predominantly PC gamer.

Easy to see what they are doing here.
Xbox app will be able to integrate other store fronts in the app aka steam.
I think their thinking is they will try and advertise the shit out of Xbox games on the app, trying to get you to purchase Game Pass or direct Xbox games( This will not work lol).
Can't see this working in a console setting, as you would need to have access to multipliable storefronts on console and that is not happening.
A big thing with PC is key sites, getting games cheaper than steam, no way Xbox or PlayStation for that matter would do this as they would lose a lot of money especially in markets outside of USA.

That's the Windows Xbox app though and it mirrors what is running on the Rog Ally. That looks more like just more of their "everything is an Xbox" nonsense like GHG GHG was talking about to me. That image doesn't really tell me anything except their launcher will launch games from other stores. That is a common feature in launchers.

And that's the current crop of Xbox consoles. Are they going to replace the Xbox console UI with Windows app? That wouldn't make sense unless they turned it into a PC.
