NateTheHate: State of Play coming in February

DS2 should most probably be the main feature but could also be GoY as kojima did say he was affected by some strike. As for the rest, they might reveal something to celebrate gow's 20th anniversary. Could also feature re9 and something else from capcom. Don't really expect much else
The actors strike only concerns OD and Physint. DS2 has already been shot and had its VO recorded.

In regards to the State of Play itself, I'm counting on a release date trailer for DS2 and the unveiling of the live-service Horizon game (seemingly coming out in the first half of the year) as well as both Days Gone and Gravity Rush 2 remasters. On the realm of third-party, I wouldn't be surprised to see the much-rumored Resident Evil Zero remake show up in addition to a launch trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds; Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater should also be getting a release date soon; and I guess Bandai Namco will have to announce Ace Combat 8 someday, right?

June would be a good time to launch GTA6, so maybe we can get GTA6 in the State of Play.

I know, all rumors say Q3/Q4 for it, but what if this comes out and thwarts Nintendo because it wont be on it?

They are not rumors. Take-Two has given it a fall 2025 release window in their latest financial report.

Enthusiasm for PlayStation seems at an all time low here lol
I mean, I just don't get why people keep posting in these threads if they just don't like PlayStation. A joke here and there is fine, but basically being the entire thread is annoying.
Not trying to turn anything into an echo chamber, but come on, I don't think you can even pull the "b-but it's just criticism!" card with most of the posts here.

The blame goes to Sony for having a pretty dreadful generation with questionable strategies (e.g. huge focus on live-service games). It is what it is. It's up to them to change the narrative by giving people something to get excited about.

There isn't much to be excited about though. What else are we supposed to talk about when it comes to Sony?

I love their hardware but I am not going to buy things I already own because they're a new color. They (Sony) have serious issues with the software side of things.

That is all subjective, I was about to post about how I'm looking forward a lot to three first-party games that will 100% be there (Lost Soul Aside, Yotei and DS2), and honestly, I don't think Sony owes anyone a reason to be excited.
Like I said, jokes are fine, but at some point you need to realize that you're about to make the 101th TLOU remaster joke in the thread, and that you're just making discussion difficult for people actually looking for it. Not telling anyone what they're allowed to post, but I think I can very well say that you're being an unfunny redditor, lol.

Yes, obviously it's all subjective. But it's a subjective feeling that many people share. That's why you're seeing so much of it in this thread.

I agree with you on the limp, reddit-tier jokes, but that's the internet for you. Everything gets run into the ground.

Not so much the software side but the announcement side. They’re hiding too much.

Games should be revealed 2-3 years in advance. We should also receive information about the game as development progresses.

Revealing games mere months from release is not a good strategy.

I actually prefer that ^, but I can see the benefits of the other side too.

It's all software-related for me, but keep in mind that I lost interest in Sony first party by the time Uncharted 3 released. At this point I'm not invested in whatever Sony is developing, I just talk shit in the hopes that it might generate a chuckle for someone scrolling through.

Here it's low, but in the sales charts its as high as ever.

People buy PS because their friends have PS and they want to play FIFA and CoD together.

I think Sony is going a dangerous Microsoft kind of route. They are doing the GamePass thing and making too much costs. They have to adjust or it will end in disaster.

DS2
Horizon Online

Venom

Good chance all those games get released in next 6 months
DS2 gets pushed back to 2026 with GTA6.
Spoiler: 2025 isn't a good year for PS5 games.
Imma need a release date for DS2 asap.
2026. You can't handle the truth.

With remasters of existing PS games they can't hype them up 3 years in advance without reminding users that they can play the OG game right now on the OG console.
It sends people down lengthy offline wormholes that are bad for PS5 game sales.

Kojima wanted to announce release date late last year but is waiting for greenlight from Sony. Of all the Playstation games, DS2 is for sure releasing this year, probably first half

Gravity Rush 1&2, Shadow of the Colossus HD(or remake), ICO HD, SoulSacrifice Delta and Bloodborne on Steam is all I want to see at this point. The Nu-Playstation California brand has nothing else to offer me.

PlayStation can be divided into two distinct eras.
PEAK "PlayStation" PS1 and PS2. PS2 improves on PS1 without losing anything good in the process. Everything good about PS1 carried over to PS2 and got better.
POST-PEAK 'PlayStation' PS3 through PS5. Massive technical spec improvement, lost the "PS look" along with the esoteric GPU and CPU. PS2 BC is missing wireless controller ports and memory card slots.

Peak PS was focused on gameplay, aesthetics, UX. A perfect generational evolution and the last jump of this kind.
Post-Peak PS is focused on technical specs and Xbox/PC.
-Anybody who wants great technical specs and a familiar PC UI/UX is loving life at this point.

Holding off on publicly acknowledging a push-back is good for business.
Right now we can all think that DS2 is coming out this year along with GTA6. In that case, 2025 is looking great and it's a good time to buy a PS5.
Admitting that we'll all have to wait until 2026 for both DS2 and GTA6 would be bad for business. In this case, 2025 would be a good time to sell a PS5.
They always did that,
It's more about which technical specs they focus on.
Boot time and input latency affect UX and gameplay more than resolution and TFLOPS.
PS3 abandoning wired controllers at the cost of added input latency is a sign of gameplay getting thrown under the bus for a marketing bullet point - "wireless".

Every game from under the sun that is not Nintendo is coming to Playstation. No other platform can say that. And PS5 owners should sell their Playstation in 2025 but then buy a PS5 in 2026 for GTA and DS2? What rubbish you talking about?

And there are people out there who call this forum SonyGAF, holy fucking shit.

Sony fans are Sony's biggest critics - and it's perfectly fine since we do AcKtually get to call them out on their own bullshit, be it the terrible game selections on Plus lately even though they jacked the prices, questionable quality control when it comes to hardware (headset especially), hardware shortcomings (ex PS portal stutter), terrible game refund policy (worst in the industry), dubious game development and tone deafness for the past 4 years etc etc - a stark contrast to both the Green and Red...fandoms (wink*wink) where their favorite multi-billion companies can do no wrong.
And you know what ? I wouldn't have it any nother way 😁

Also :agreed

PS: the only Sony circle jerk part on this forum is the PS5 Pro one where apparently, you're not allowed to express any kind of criticism.

My post was more directed to 90% of the thread being the same jokes repeated over and over without any space for actual discussion (which yes, also includes criticism).

Are we even sure if Fairgames is an actual game at this point. That CG trailer meant nothing, and then the silence after Concord's debacle doesn't help. This is the first true Jade Raymond only project, so let's see if she is a con or not.

I don't particularly care about Fairgame$, but what about this silence? It's not on a very different situation compared to, say, Wolverine.
Though I will say that I have no idea why Sony announced it so early, when even stuff like Ghost of Yotei will come out in probably less than a year after its original reveal.

This thing about revealing games too early needs to stop as well. I know it is a strategy for building up hype or to say you have something in the works but I much prefer reveals like FromSoftware has done with Elden Ring DLC and now Nightreign, or how Capcom has done with Monster Hunter Wilds where the games get launched not many years after their first reveal, but more like a year or so after announced.

All the worse is that gamers don't really care much about CG trailers nowadays as they tell nothing about the final product's quality.

If I were to guess, they announced it early as an advertisement for hiring. The studio was founded in 2021, so I doubt it was ever supposed to come out before 2025. I'm not concerned by the silence, but I don't have high hopes

And GAAS games really don't need any marketing. It's word of mouth by gamers that leads to success

They just had a great single player game which won GOTY and a great multiplayer game which won GOTY. People would bitch regardless of what Sony do.

My personal expectations for this are extremely low. It will just be 3rd party games maybe another look at Mafia or Borderlands. Since they cancelled all the other live service shit, and also just showed Naughty Baldie, it’s going to be lackluster….Sony this gen kinds sucks outside of Insomniac.

It's the big first party games in which people are dissapointed by. Both HFW and Spider-Man 2 were both cookie cutter sequels that didn't evolve as much as they should have. GOWR was really great but it was a cross gen title. Astrobot is obv amazing, but not many PS5 gamers are into platformers. It has sold a couple million units? It just doesn't move the needle

And I give Sony all the credit in the world for HD2. They funded Arrowhead for over a decade when they had like 15 people develop HD1, but outside of that, it is dissapointing

But I will say, Playstation has been doing really well when it comes to 2nd 3rd party deals. PS5 generation has been good on that front

That doesn't sound dreadful to me. Add to that GT7 too. When the "big first party" release their game I'm sure that would somehow be framed as dreadful too. No matter what they do somebody would find a way to bitch about it. There is no changing the narrative when it's those people setting the narratives.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
Flight Simulator, Indiana Jones release date and other Microsoft announcements 🥂

Besides I hope Kojima has a new trailer ready for the next SoP, one year after the last one, this time with a release period (summer/fall/holiday).

That's too many MS games, don't you think?

Probably a new long-ass trailer for Death Stranding 2
A new trailer for Ghost of Yotei to make it seem like it won't be worse than the first game
Probably a trailer for Marvel's Wolverine
And as a "one last thing" something from Santa Monica studio. Hopefully a new IP and not yet another crappy nu-God of War game.
