Overall, it's nice, but the bezel is a bit of a turn off, the the text is too fine, that combined with the fact that the lume fill isn't that good means it looks a little rough, I can barely see the lume on the '10' in the dark.
it's a real shame because the overall design is great, just let down by some niggles.

Minitwatch is pretty cool. He mostly talks about the low end, so your Seiko 5s, SKXes, Casios etc.
There's also 555gear, but it's not a watch channel per se, but one of those EDC channels. So besides watches there's like, knives, boots, bags etc. I still like his watch vids a lot.

jomashop , they sent me the wrong watch (a better one!) and not the one I ordered.


Creationwatches, they never charged me , free skx i guess? woo woo.


In summary, YMMV but screw AD , gray market all day.

Interesting you say that, Leroy, w/r/t AD vs gray market, because I'm in the market for a new watch and I was just debating about whether to go with an AD or gray market. The watch I want is about 30% less at Jomashop, but I have my doubts.

They both shipped really fast, and I have no complaints. Tbf, creation even sent the official warranty card and booklet. Jomashop did send original packaging but warranty is through them . I have a 20$ off coupon code at Joma for watches over 300 if you want it.

With regard to AD vs gray. I just keep it at 1000 dollar or so limit on gray.

My Speedy Pro was gray (joma) and it's been perfect for the nearly 3 years I've owned it.
That was $3K+ and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I've only made 2 AD purchases (Nomos and Sinn) but that was only to get special LE versions unavailable elsewhere.
Otherwise though I'd probably buy 2nd hand.

These days though I'm really only looking at vintage.

Well we are talking about $3500 vs $2500, so the difference is pretty big.

I should check out second hand. My most worn watch was bought second hand at a really good price.

By the way, I wonder how many gaffers have (re)gained an interest in watches because of this topic. I know that your OP en subsequent posts reignited my interest in them. That first quarts Seiko was not enough of course. No, that pesky inconspicuous and a bit boring 007 kept going round in my mind and soon it became some sort of obsession. So now I own a 007 and multiple other watches.

Tried one of these on when I bought my Black Bay - super super nice. Very legible dial. My only problem with it was the black ring around the bezel. Felt out of place to me. Would still buy one though.

I go back and forth between this and a few other watches, but I always come back to this one for my next purchase.

New: yeah, I negotiated 'no tax' (which is a 12% rebate here) a couple of times, but it's never easy. It really depends on the model and its attractiveness in the market today. They will not give you a 5% rebate of if they know the watch will be sold in the next couple of days full price...

Which one in particular? I was REALLY all about them a year or two ago, but was a bit more than I was comfortable spending on one watch, so I bought something a few k cheaper. Love them.

I'm thinking about buying a Luminox, but the closest dealers are in Jacksonville or Orlando, and I really don't feel like driving 2 hours one way to buy one thing and also, those cities both suck.

Any drawbacks to buying online? Can I assume that I'll just need to take it to a jewelry store in town to get the band sized? Also, any drawbacks to Luminox? Don't want to spend some money and then find out they suck.

As long as you buy from an authorised dealer, no, not really, obviously you can't get hands on with it before purchase.

Yes, any half decent watch place should be able to resize the bracelet.

Luminox are fairly unique styling wise, so if that is your main focus, go for it, they are 'swiss made' (not that that is a huge sign of quality), but it's still a quartz piece, so not much to go wrong, not sure what Luminox are like in terms of fit and finish though.

If you are after alternatives, maybe the G-Shock range, or even Marathon or Tracer.

I bought myself this Armitron watch. It's not that fancy, but I found it cheap. The only problem is that I can't seem to resize it. It looks like it has screws holding the band pieces together, but my smallest precision screwdriver just can't seem to get a grip in the groove. The little instruction booklet that came with it basically came with it was generic and came with a list of various types of fasteners their watches use. While they look pretty obviously like screws, I noticed that the inside of the band has arrows, which the booklet said was indicative of them just being pins, with the arrows indicating which way to push them out. Has anyone had issues similar to this?

Edit: Never mind, it turned out they actually were pins. They were some weird shape that just made it look like it was a screw.

Hey everyone. I have a coworker that's retiring and a group of us want to get him a watch. Trying to keep it under $200. He's really into sailing/boating so was thinking of a Orient dive watch or maybe even something like the Suunto Core Deep Black since it has things like a compass and barometer/altimeter readings. What do you guys think? He's got big wrists too so I would say the watch has to be 42mm minimum.

Thanks for the recommend OnkelC. I took a screen cap of a few watches including that one and showed it to him making believe they were mine lol. This way I got to have his opinion on what he liked and he landed on the Orient Ray Raven 2. He was like "Oh that's a nice Watch, you should wear that more often" lol. So Ray Raven 2 it is. Any website recommendations on where to get it at a good price?

How long do most of you guys who have been into mechanicals for some time go between services? I've read 5-7 years, but that's quite a disparity. My trusty Harpoon (ETA 2824) is coming up on its 5th anniversary. Showing no signs of any problems, but since I wear it every day I should probably drop the ~$250 CAD to get it done in the next few months, right?

2824 is a beast, most of my watches go to the doctors every 4-5 years, but 2824(-2) based pieces can go up to 6-7 years without issues. Just check the viscosity if you can have a look at the movement through a case back or by poping the solid back. If you see black stuff, then bring it to your watchmaker, if the oil is still oily, you are good.

I'm wondering are some watches more prone to magnetization than others? I have a Seiko SKX007 that basically runs fine, but my old 6138 will, almost without fail, get wonky after about a week. I type at a laptop all day, as well as move game consoles around at work pretty regularly.

And by "wonky" I mean the watch will be running *perfectly* until a seemingly random point in the day, when I'll either quickly gain 5 minutes or lose 20. I bought a degausser and this seems make everything work again until it doesn't anymore.

edit: I should probably get this thing serviced, but the price to service a chronometer is just outrageous (for me). This watch cost less than $300, and most watch shops want more than to service it.

Thanks for the info, GS - I don't have the means to open it up, but good to know there should be no rush to get anything done. If nothing else, it'll feel good to have a chance to support the handful of guys who provide this service, even if it means getting everything sorted a little sooner than is strictly necessary.

For under $5k, in the not too dressy/not too casual field, you have NOMOS and Tudor offering nice stuff.

But honestly, for that price, I'd go vintage.

Youre up to the task. I believe in you. No one on youtube can pronounce it either if thats any consolation. What about cartier tank ? Vintage or new seems to be right around 5k , maybe a little more for a new gold one , but youre worth it.


I thought about nomos but idk, just doesnt scream lyle to me . There is always a vintage datejust or tudor or something. Obviously like the other poster said you can put a brown strap on anything , but you already know that.
