New look for PS5 console coming this holiday season

Yes, I do. But I'm part of a minority.

Did people forget the possibility that if Sony would be the only one releasing a Pro, the Series S + GamePass might actually become much more attractive to casuals?

Besides, people are already glad they can buy a regular PS5, a Pro would be quite expensive, so who is it aimed for exactly?
That minority?

So basically, you turn it into a different way of saying you want a few more fps or a higher res for current-gen games.

There is evidence there is a sizable number of gamers who want more power.

How does Sony releasing a Pro make a Series S and GamePass more attractive to casuals when the base model will still exist?

People who haven't bought a PS5 and people who want to upgrade... these questions can't be serious

So does this confirm there is no pro version coming? Because that's the only thing that would get me to bite right now.

Is this really enough of a difference to make current PS5 console owners go and she'll out another 500 bucks for? I might have considered it if there was no pro version and they redesigned the system altogether. Like something that looks nothing like the vanilla PS5.

I don't think Sony thinks that those that already own a PS5 will buy this one.

This looks to be just a case of them reducing costs and streamlining production with just one production line now (the drive becomes just a part of packaging). Craziest thing about them raising the price on the base model 3 years in, that's a first. Though I guess Xbox is losing the drive for the same price, but at least you get double storage.

Now I wonder how PS5 Pro is going to look like. Will they keep similar design and just make it more chunky? That would be awkward.

What evidence?
And "wanting more power" is kind of a broad statement, wouldn't you think?
I also would always like more power for my system of choice. That's a given.

Pricing and perception can do a lot for the average casual gamer.

PS5 currently has the ideal middleground with PS5 Digital.
A Pro edition could potentially change a lot, if you think about it.

Not saying it will happen, but I imagine they do take that into consideration.
Maybe it's also why MS doesn't have plans for a Series Pro.
People who haven't bought a PS5 and people who want to upgrade... these questions can't be serious
Yeah, because new buyers definitely wouldn't prefer buying the €400-€500 console instead of the probably €600-€700 version that plays the exact same games at slightly less fps/resolution the majority of casuals don't care about, in the current state of the world-economy.

So hope
The pricing is a disappointment. I was expecting lower. A $50 increase from the original digital to this digital edition. I thought it'd be the same $399. But I think we knew the digital edition was losing them money.
losing them money 🤣 barely anyone bought that edition, now one’s gonna buy it lol,

Why no vertical stand ? Wtf, one of the selling points of this was the vertical stand.
Seriously ? When you decided which console to get, you were like "OMG Halo Infinite seems awesome, and Forza Horizon 5 daaaamnnnnn... Oh fuck this, that PS5 vertical stand is too sexy, XSX preorder canceled" ? :D

They should include it yes but they also should include the PS2 stand, the PS2 slim stand, the PS3 stand... but they never did. :(

Is nobody entertaining a thought that new design probably DOESNT NEED A STAND TO STAND VERTICALLY ?!
Maybe it really is just optional 30$ purchase

To be fair, I stood mine up without the stand for a while. None of them really need it.

I would say that for Sony it's a smart move though, they can discount the hardware to create purchase incentives and claw it back with the extras.

I am kinda happy it's not really that much smaller.
It still wouldn't fit in default ikea Kallax shelving unit.
Saying that, I am happy that all my ikea kallax modding didn't go to waste lol

Then it's on Sony to be clear about it. Announcing a separate vertical stand along with the new console screams that it is needed to stand vertically.

Again nearly 20% of PS4 sales were PS4 Pro, despite the console launching mid gen. That is evidence. Is it a given since you're advocating against it for no reason?

That's not really a response. Why would the addition of a new SKU push people to a cheaper sku who have not been pushed there today?

That "middle ground" doesn't disappear just because a more expensive sku is introduced.

Microsoft doesn't want to force developers to support 3 skus and they've already seen the XSX is not selling well.

You know what else it screams? who cares about a fucking stand!!!?
It's cost of your morning mcdonald breakfast anyway
I care about a piece of plastic that costs 30 fucking euros that should have been inside the box that already costs 550.

NeonGhost

uses 'M$' - What year is it? Not 2002.
The Japanese PS blog confirms that it will be released on November 10.

Probably launching with a call of duty bundle

Why can't you understand that it DOESNT HAVE TO BE inside the box if the console stands by itself.
We don't know that. We don' know if it's something they've taken away

And like I said, in that case they should be clear about it. Perhaps you should be angry at Sony instead for not prodiving the information.

I'm sad that my post calling out several people who thought a PS5 price increase was never going to happen was deleted.

4K was new and there was a lot of PR aimed at 4K, which is old news by now.
PS4 Pro was also meant to increase VR-performance, so that itself boosted sales (even though to a lesser extent).

This gen and times in general are different.

No, but the pricing gap between Series S and PS5 Pro will be quite large.
And power isn't the defining factor, otherwise Switch wouldn't be such a massive hit.

Yeah, XSX isn't selling well because apparently people prefer the much cheaper Series S, despite it being less powerful.

Kind of what I was alluding to above.

But it won't be because one has a disc drive, detachable or not it still makes a separate SKU.
There is no difference from what was already available other then they're now producing the Disc Drive for the one without as an optional purchase.
Creating a separate SKU is much simpler in this case. For the OG model there were different mobos for disc and digital versions. The digital mobo didn't have a drive connector soldered to the board and there was no power delivery to the connector pads. The drive on the physical was screwed down and there were differences in manufacturing related to that. In the case of the new model both SKU's are identical all the way through until you get to the end, then it's either attaching a drive or snapping on a cover. Everything else is identical. Manufacturing is going to be much simpler now.

I hope the PS5 Pro has a more premium build, as I'm getting knocked off pound shop vibes from that PS5 toilet seat revision photo.

This bitch

Just quickly looked through the replies and even the social media dude who handles the official Xbox account is making fun of it. Actually just look at the type of tweets he sends. Guess we're back to the 360 era of cringe console wars? 🙄

I just want to point out that the people who say not to buy consoles on release have been thoroughly BTFO this gen. Not only were there massive shortages more than a year in so that it was impossible to buy even if you waited, not only did they raise the price of the consoles in most regions, now they're releasing new models like the ps5 digital which are more expensive than they were at launch. It's incredible.

dido wrt the meta quest 2. you could've bought it at launch or you could've waited until they raised the price by 100 dollars to buy it.

I agree that the stand hysteria is just manufactured bullshit from Xbois.

But who the fuck spends 30 notes on their breakfast? That’s like 7 McMuffins?
I can't even imagine any announcement of anything without half of the world malding over some bs.
It's all so annoying in last few years. I now believe covid was real and turned everyone into whiny bitches

RE retard edition.

Add the BR drive costs you $80.

It does not come with dual purpose stand. No liquid metal cooling.

I am curious about the 1TB SSD, how they went from 825GB to 1TB, did they reduce the lanes?
Source on no liquid metal?

And has anyone info on m.2 drive support?

I’m wondering whether the PSU draws less Watt or if it’s the same nm. A smaller PSU on same nm size would be risky in terms of coil whine I’m afraid.

Do you think Sony will release an even slimmer version in say 2026, such as just the left part? And would it either:
1. support the current upcoming external ODD
2. have a new kind of external ODD
or
3. Digital only

I’m hoping towards a matte super slim with option 1.

But I will try to wait until PS6 and see how well BC works there before getting a backup PS5.

You make it sound like 4K has gone away now. People still want 4K60 and many want 4K120 not 4K30 or 140060.

PS5 Pro will ALSO improve VR2 performance...

Not sure what this has to do with the XSX and XSS.

Why does the gap between the Series S and PS5 Pro matter at all.. You still haven't answered that.

The power isn't a defining factor for a hybrid handheld console, that isn't to say it isn't with a home console.

The XSX isn't selling well because the Xbox brand is diminished. The Series S sells based on price alone and gamepass which is unsustainable.

Wasn't long ago people were saying those shell leaks were fake. Probably one of the least inspired redesigns/not slims with all the benefits for Sony and not many for the customer. This is Sony's version of shrinkgate with increased profit margins.

Just gonna wait for the Pro version. If its as big as my current PS5 than im fine, if its bigger than im fucked. I need to change my whole desk for it, which i alread did for my current PS5 lol.

Small question. If Sony were to make a PS5 pro... do you believe that by the end of the PS5 gen, it can be said that 15-20% of all PS5s sold would be of the Pro variant?

If the answer to that is yes, what do you think that 15-20% of extra sales is worth to Sony? Are you aware that a majority of those sales would come from people who bought a PS5 in 2020/2021? Do you realize that would also mean a lot of OG PS5s would go into the used market? You know a used PS5 save still increases the overall install base if the person selling went off to buy a new PS5 Pro?

That aside, I think your problem is that you don't really get or understand what type of product something like a PS5 Pro is. You are trying to make sense out of something that is inherently nonsensical. A PS5 Pro is going to be the exact same thing as a PS5, but allow a higher graphics profile. Nothing more, nothing less. That matters to some people, and to others, they would just want to buy the best PS5 instead.

Trying to argue against that is the equivalent of arguing whether Nvidia needs to have a 4070, 4080, or 4090. They all do the same thing, some GPUs just do it better than others, and there is nearly a market or people that want the same... but better.
