Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360 Original) vs. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (Series X/PS5 Remake) | Side by Side

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
It's interesting seeing a reinterpretation of NGII, but the new version lacks the atmosphere of the original. The use of color in the 2008 version is so much better. Making Sonia randomly Asian all of a sudden is kinda weird, too.

Seems there's a lot of issues with the re-release in terms of gameplay changes and the like, so I'm not sure when I'll end up playing this version of it. Kind of deflating seeing that they made it easier and that it's got the usual UE5 issues.

My problem with most PS360 games are the fact that it's hard to tell why literally everyone was using browns, greens, yellows, and heavy bloom.

Is because it was the best solution at the time and it matched a status quo set by trendsetters like Gears of War and Oblivion, or if honestly all of these devs around the same time span were all trying to make that set of colors and bloom a part of their artistic vision.

I find the latter harder to believe without a hard confirmation.

Looks excellent but why is she not blonde?
I remember playing only one ninja gaiden game... on xbox 360... All I remember is that we took turns and broke the pirated disc in half after we were done... or we didn't finish it lol

You want to know what the biggest difference is between them? Sigma and Black are Ninja Dog versions unlike original.

...made it easier? There are harder difficulties, so just play one difficulty higher than the one you usually play?

If you want a good version of the original NG2, you can still pick up the Master Ninja Collection on Steam and mod the games to get them closer to the old Ninja Gaiden Black days.

At the time, using those colors gave the appearance of better graphics. PS3 era games aged like milk because so many games used bloom colors instead of actually investing in good art direction. Everybody was chasing the best graphics to sell their games. It was the worst era in gaming, imo

Biggest issue is UE5 being used. That basically guarantees low resolutions with shitty image quality, which is a shame.

It's getting annoying to play remakes of games and have to deal with worse image quality and performance than the original version.

It also goes to show how hard it is to make a 3d environment look as nice as a simple 2d skybox (the cityscape in the first level).

Reposting my question from the other thread

All I need to know whether they keep the original Chapter 11 version.....the mission is in the ninja village, and you're fighting wave and wave of suicidal zombie ninjas

In the Sigma version they toned down that mission significantly where the village was just empty, I want the original mission BACK!....has anyone got to that part yet and confirm

It is not Ch. 11 in this one (Ch. 14) and it's almost deserted. Check the footage about 6 hours and 15 minutes in.

Maybe Black mod for Master Collection version will ease your pain (on PC).

I played a little bit on game pass. I never played the original but I’m having a hard time reading my character during a fight. I’m assuming it’s all the extra fidelity or color use.

No, same here. Sometimes it's hard to tell between you and the enemy Ninjas.
There are different costumes to unlock, so that may help in other playthroughs

He's playing on Acolyte difficulty. Only someone totally new to Ninja Gaiden or someone trying to speedrun it would start at almost Ninja Dog level.

I'd wait for at least a Warrior difficulty or higher to confirm the staircase of death has been nerfed.
